Chapter 236: Chapter 233: This Is Running for Your Life

Chen Xing looked toward the main gate of the Great Buddha Temple.

A large horde of zombies was charging over, already tearing into the people at the entrance.

Brother Da Lei was speechless. They were deep in the mountains here and rarely encountered zombies.

Even when they did, it was only one or two. A horde this large was unprecedented.

On her way to the Great Buddha Temple, Chen Xing had released her little dinosaur, letting it roam free to attract more zombies.

There were too many people in the Migratory Clan. Killing them all herself would be too much trouble.

She hadn’t expected the little dinosaur to be so efficient, bringing so many in such a short time.

’This is great. The zombies are helping out.’

Seeing things were going south, Brother Da Lei turned and ran toward the base of the giant Buddha statue’s feet.

Using the chaos as cover, Li Feibai had already broken through the net and climbed out. He chased after Brother Da Lei, following him inside.

’Their feud runs deep. It’s better to let Li Feibai kill Brother Da Lei and get his revenge personally.’

After a quick scan of the area, Chen Xing spotted several meditation halls on either side of the great Buddha.

The roofs of the meditation halls weren’t traditionally peaked; they had been converted into flat platforms, upon which several machine guns were mounted.

They had already started firing at the zombie horde.

The men controlling the machine guns didn’t care if they were shooting zombies or their own people—they just sprayed bullets at the crowd below.

Chen Xing quickened her pace to dodge the gunfire, circled around to the side, and climbed up a ladder.

Several men were standing in a neat row, firing away, oblivious to her approach from behind. Chen Xing sprinted over at incredible speed, her blade slashing across their throats one by one.

She then leaped to the adjacent rooftop and took down the men there as well.

Once they were all dead, she immediately jumped down and crossed to the other side.

She dealt with all the remaining gunmen in the same fashion, collected most of the guns and ammunition, then leaped down from the roof and slipped through a nearby door.

The little dinosaur monster had already snuck over and followed her inside.

After recalling the little dinosaur monster, Chen Xing searched the room.

It was a bedroom, with nothing useful inside.

Outside, the battle was already mostly over.

It was a scene of mutual destruction. The few survivors were a handful of zombies.

’Perfect!’

The rest could be left for Meng Hu to handle.

She searched all the rooms. There were quite a few supplies, but most had already been opened. She didn’t bother with those, only taking items that were still properly sealed.

’Logically, there’s no way this is all they have!’

’At the very least, they should have some long-range artillery.’

Glancing around, she spotted a cave hidden halfway up the mountain.

In front of the cave entrance was a large, flat area paved with concrete. There were track marks on the ground.

Inside the cave, she found a large piece of long-range artillery.

She had seen this kind of thing online. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it was close enough.

’Hmm! It’s mine now!’

When she returned to the front hall, only Meng Hu was there.

The little guy, having gotten bored, had piled up all the Crystal Cores.

After collecting the Crystal Cores, she glanced in the direction of the great Buddha.

It had been a while since Li Feibai had followed Brother Da Lei inside. He wasn’t back yet. ’Could he have been ambushed by Brother Da Lei?’

Chen Xing immediately ran to a small, well-hidden passage at the base of the Buddha’s feet.

If she hadn’t seen Brother Da Lei go in, she might not have been able to find it.

She entered the narrow passage. It was dark and damp inside.

Just then, she heard footsteps.

Looking toward the sound, she saw it was Li Feibai.

He appeared to be injured. His face was pale, and his body was covered in scratches.

"Where is he?"

"Killed him!" Li Feibai coughed twice. "The bastard ambushed me and then tried to run. I pinned him down and finished him off near the exit on the other side. This tunnel connects to a cattle farm. I already checked it out; there’s nothing there!"

Chen Xing’s eyebrows rose.

’It must be the same cattle farm she had been to before.’

Brother Da Lei had run toward the cattle farm at the most critical moment. There had to be something there.

"Go rest in the car. I’ll take a look around!" Chen Xing specifically told Meng Hu to go with him.

Li Feibai was indeed exhausted, and his wounds were hurting, so he didn’t object.

Chen Xing immediately ran toward the cattle farm.

What would have been a long drive took only about ten minutes running straight through the mountain pass.

In just a few hours, the weeds had grown much taller, almost swallowing the buildings.

In the row of houses, there was nothing, just as Li Feibai had said.

But Chen Xing wasn’t the type to give up easily.

A large patch of grass had been grazed clean before. That wasn’t the work of just one or two cows.

She followed a small path, already sprouting with new grass, and ran toward the part of the cattle farm that had been destroyed in the explosion.

As she approached from the front, she could see another row of dilapidated buildings in the distance.

As she got closer, she could hear the occasional moo.

When she reached the buildings and opened a door, she found dozens of cows inside.

’Now this is a real jackpot.’

She headed back the way she came.

In the dark tunnel, Chen Xing deliberately slowed her pace.

’The Migratory Clan had hauled truckload after truckload of supplies here. There’s no way they used it all.’

About two-thirds of the way through, she saw a figure curled up in a corner on the ground. It was Brother Da Lei’s body.

Chen Xing was speechless. ’Li Feibai said he killed Brother Da Lei near the exit to the cattle farm.’

’She hadn’t seen anyone when she ran past just now.’

She gathered an electric current in her hand and kicked him in the back.

Brother Da Lei’s body suddenly flinched.

Chen Xing immediately unleashed the electric current on him.

Brother Da Lei’s body, which had been on the verge of death, suddenly erupted in a flash of light. The radiance was so dazzlingly bright it nearly blinded Chen Xing.

’A lab rat!’

Chen Xing never would have imagined that Brother Da Lei was also one of the Xingguang Research Institute’s lab rats.

His body, blazing with boundless radiance, was as dazzling as the descent of the Buddha Master himself.

Chen Xing had no time to admire the sight. She summoned all her strength and sprinted for the tunnel entrance.

If she had looked back then, she would have seen Brother Da Lei’s body spinning like a glass marble, smashing everything around it.

RUMBLE! A section of the mountain collapsed, completely blocking the passage.

At the last second, Chen Xing used the power of her Jiezhi Space to escape, instantly teleporting to safety.

She looked back, regretting that she hadn’t been able to grab the ID tag that must have dropped from Brother Da Lei’s body.

When she emerged from the tunnel, Li Feibai was already running toward her.

Chen Xing didn’t mention that Brother Da Lei had come back to life. She made up an excuse: "It must have been a landslide!"

’If Li Feibai knew that Brother Da Lei hadn’t died by his hand, he would be devastated. After all, he had made this trip to avenge his sister’s tragic death.’

Night was falling.

The two of them drove to a civilian house near the national highway.

Feeling unwell, Li Feibai skipped dinner.

Chen Xing gave him some spring water. After drinking it, he must have felt better, because he started snoring in his little sports car.

It was just past seven o’clock, but Chen Xing wasn’t the least bit sleepy.

As her mind drifted, thinking about Brother Da Lei being a lab rat, the sound of racing cars echoed from the distance. It sounded like there were quite a few of them.

You only get a sound like that when the accelerator is floored.

Chen Xing immediately got out of her RV, ran a few hundred meters to the side of the road, and hid behind a tree.

A sedan appeared around the bend, its tires nearly smoking. It was followed by a long line of various vehicles.

There were RVs, trucks, SUVs...

’This isn’t a race.’

’This is an escape!’
