Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 231 - 228: He Likes This Girl
Chapter 231: Chapter 228: He Likes This Girl
Chen Xing had no goodwill whatsoever for Wang Shiqi, so she pretended not to hear her and looked at the other people instead.
After a group of people had disembarked, she saw a woman sitting at the very back of the train car, her head lowered and her arms wrapped around herself.
This woman... Chen Xing recognized her clothes.
In her previous life, the first time she met Wu Qinglong and his wife, the wife had been wearing this same outfit.
’Did fate have to bring them together in the exact same way, even after all this?’
"Are you okay?" Chen Xing asked, keeping her voice low.
Sister Ping looked up, her eyes filled with sorrow, but she still shook her head. "I’m fine! Thank you!"
Seeing that the car was now empty, she stood up.
But when she saw Wu Qinglong and Wang Shiqi outside, she turned back and didn’t get off the train.
Wang Shiqi let out a cold snort and shot Sister Ping a mocking glare.
Wu Qinglong, however, acted as if he didn’t know her and completely ignored Sister Ping.
"If you’re fine, then get going! Are you waiting here for the Migratory Clan to roll out the red carpet for you?" Chen Xing snapped impatiently.
Just as Sister Ping was about to get off, Chen Xing grabbed her arm. "Sister, if you have nowhere to go, you can come with me!"
"In that case, can I come with you too?" Wang Shiqi asked with a saccharine smile, terrified that Chen Xing would refuse.
The moment she stepped off the train, she had seen Chen Xing’s RV and the bodies littering the ground nearby.
’These people are powerful. Sticking with them is definitely the right move.’
"Our team doesn’t take homewreckers!" Chen Xing retorted bluntly.
Wang Shiqi was speechless, her face contorted with humiliation.
Sister Ping’s hand trembled slightly, and her eyes finally reddened.
Wu Qinglong had thought no one knew. But seeing Chen Xing call it out so directly, he assumed Sister Ping must have secretly told her. He pointed a vicious finger at Sister Ping. "And here I thought you were the gentle type! I can’t believe you’d stoop to bad-mouthing me behind my back. Well, this just saves me the trouble of feeling guilty. From now on, we’re through!"
"Weren’t we already through several months ago?" Sister Ping’s voice trembled. She was still a little afraid of her husband.
’She didn’t know when it started, but the kind, amiable husband she once knew had changed into someone she didn’t recognize at all.’
"Hmph! Fine, fine! I never knew you could be so heartless!" Wu Qinglong grabbed Wang Shiqi and made to leave.
Wang Shiqi tried to shake his hand off in annoyance, but still followed him.
By this time, Li Feibai had already opened another cargo container, which was filled with supplies.
Da Bai and Hong Hui, along with two small white mice, moved all the cargo into the RV.
Li Feibai had said he didn’t want any of it.
"Chen Xing... so your name is Chen Xing?" Li Feibai seemed a little excited.
Chen Xing gave him a flat look. The message was clear. ’You know my name now. You should leave.’
"I’m not leaving!" Li Feibai’s typical young master stubbornness flared up. "You didn’t tell me yourself!"
Chen Xing ignored him and led the haggard-looking Sister Ping onto the RV.
After a shower and a change of clothes, Sister Ping was actually quite beautiful.
Her early thirties was the time a woman was at her most charming—still young, but with a certain depth and maturity.
It turned out that Sister Ping and Wu Qinglong had been married for several years but had never had children.
Their life was average; not great, but comfortable enough. They treated each other with polite respect, and she had been quite content with that.
A few months before the apocalypse, she suddenly discovered that Wu Qinglong, who had always been a "Mr. Nice Guy," was having an affair. She immediately asked for a divorce.
Wu Qinglong cried and begged, promising it would never happen again, and her heart softened.
Right before the apocalypse began, she discovered her husband was still seeing the other woman.
This time, however, she didn’t dare bring up divorce again, because her husband had changed.
It was hard to say exactly how, but just looking at him made her skin crawl.
Thankfully, when the apocalypse began, he took his mistress, Wang Shiqi, and left.
She just never expected to run into them again on a Migratory Clan transport.
Chen Xing considered the details carefully.
’Wu Qinglong was indeed a bit strange.’
’If his family wasn’t well-off, how did he get into the Duole Safety Zone?’
’Two slots... that would have cost a fortune.’
’Even in the apocalypse, where fortunes could be made overnight, getting into a safety zone required pre-apocalypse wealth.’
’Or... like Cao Guangrong’s family, did someone buy a slot for him?’
’The Lu Family!?’
’Chen Xing felt the Lu Family had to be involved.’
’But why would the Lu Family choose someone like Wu Qinglong to enter the safety zone?’
’If she couldn’t figure it out, she wouldn’t dwell on it.’
Chen Xing and her group didn’t linger. They used the cover of night to push ahead for a few dozen kilometers, eventually settling down in a quiet, secluded village.
The next morning, after breakfast, they continued on toward the Migratory Clan’s headquarters.
After they passed the Capital City, Li Feibai, as if he’d just realized something, sped up in his sports car to catch Chen Xing. "Are you going to the Migratory Clan’s headquarters?" he shouted, his voice tinged with excitement.
This time, he finally got a reaction out of Chen Xing. She nodded.
The corners of Li Feibai’s mouth curved up as he turned his head to look at Chen Xing.
’He liked this girl. He liked her a lot!’
’He had traveled a great distance from the south for the sole purpose of settling a score with the Migratory Clan.’
’His only sister had disappeared on her way to the Capital City. He later found out that she had been captured by the Migratory Clan and had died a horrible death.’
’He was determined to get revenge for her.’
’He would wipe the Migratory Clan from the face of the earth.’
’And now, as if she could read his mind, Chen Xing was leading him straight north.’
’Chen Xing had long since realized that Li Feibai had a score to settle with the Migratory Clan.’
’Both times they’d fought the Migratory Clan, his eyes had been bloodshot, and he’d shown no mercy.’
’Having another friend to help kill her enemies was no loss for her, especially a rich one.’
While the convoy was still within the Capital City’s limits, a sudden explosion rocked the area. A mushroom cloud of thick, black smoke billowed into the sky from the direction of the National Capital Safety Zone.
’The blast radius was huge. If things went badly, the entire safety zone could be gone.’
Forgetting about the Migratory Clan, Chen Xing immediately spun the RV around and sped toward the Capital City.
They reached the National Capital Safety Zone in just over twenty minutes.
The thick smoke had yet to disperse, and dust filled the air.
Unable to see clearly ahead, Chen Xing leaped from the vehicle, charging into the thick smoke with Meng Hu.
Li Feibai and the others tried to follow, but were immediately choked by the smoke and forced back.
Chen Xing put on her gas mask and recalled Meng Hu into her storage space.
The Capital City had once had a few high-rises, but now it was nothing but a field of ruins. Not a single building remained.
There was no sign of life anywhere in the rubble.
Everyone in the buildings outside the main safety zone had been vaporized in the blast.
And the main entrance to the Duole Safety Zone was now completely buried.
None of her calls would go through.
She immediately changed direction, searching through the thick smoke for a subway entrance.
There was a small, specialized entrance in the subway system used for admitting people. That was how she and Cao Guangrong had entered the safety zone before.
The previous hailstorm disaster had caused all the surface buildings to collapse, including the signs outside the subway stations.
By the time Chen Xing found an entrance, it was impossible to tell which line or exit number it was.
But at least there was a toppled iron gate.
Prying open the iron gate, Chen Xing entered the pitch-black darkness.
It was, however, a slight improvement over the thick smoke outside.
After taking off her gas mask, she brought Meng Hu back out.
The two of them headed down the stairs and onto the long stretch of subway tracks.
