Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 230 - 227: A Tycoon Indeed
Chapter 230: Chapter 227: A Tycoon Indeed
After seeing the advanced mutated monster at the church, Chen Xing had figured that Advanced Zombies would eventually appear in the country.
She just didn’t expect to encounter one so soon.
Advanced Zombies were incredibly fast; even a car couldn’t guarantee an escape. An ordinary person would have trouble getting away and would have no choice but to fight for their life.
If you were lucky, you lived. If not, you died.
The Advanced Zombies that had struck terror into everyone’s hearts in her past life didn’t pose much of a threat to her now.
She had hurried out of the RV only because she didn’t want it to get damaged.
The moment the Advanced Zombie got close, Meng Hu pounced on it.
Despite Meng Hu’s large size, it was incredibly agile.
It was in no way at a disadvantage fighting the Advanced Zombie.
"Holy shit, what the hell is that?" Li Feibai was seeing this kind of zombie for the first time. "Is that a zombie?"
’With that speed, if I weren’t a speed-type Superpower User, I wouldn’t dare to stand outside and watch.’
’If the zombie had ignored Meng Hu and counterattacked, an ordinary person would have been done for.’
"An Advanced Zombie!" Chen Xing answered him, while also warning Da Bai and the others. "These zombies are extremely fast and have exceptionally good hearing. If you run into one, your only option is to fight it head-on!"
The chances of running away were slim.
They could only pray they wouldn’t run into a horde of Advanced Zombies.
However, now that Advanced Zombies had appeared, it wouldn’t be long before all the zombies started to level up.
Survival would become even more difficult for people.
Chen Xing didn’t intervene, wanting to use this as an opportunity to train Meng Hu.
Soon, Meng Hu clamped its jaws around the Advanced Zombie’s neck and, with a powerful jerk, tore its head from its body.
Chen Xing walked over and retrieved the Advanced Crystal Core.
Li Feibai was speechless. His eyes nearly popped out of his head as he watched.
’Just what is this woman’s story?’
’Her movements were as fluid as flowing water, as if she did this all the time.’
Da Bai and the others, however, weren’t surprised. Having seen Chen Xing do so many extraordinary things, they had grown used to it.
"Sister Xing, these Advanced Zombies are so fast. If slower people like us run into one, aren’t we just waiting to die?" Hong Hui asked, staring blankly at the Advanced Zombie’s corpse.
His superpower had gone through several upgrades and was already Level Five, but he couldn’t guarantee that he could take it down as easily as Meng Hu had.
"Advanced Zombies are fast, but compared to the basic and Intermediate Zombies, they’re currently more fragile. Hit them hard in the head, and they’re not difficult to kill," Chen Xing explained simply.
’Over the years, these Advanced Zombies will get tempered until their hides become tough and leathery, so thick that a blade can’t even pierce them.’
’That’s when we’ll really have to worry.’
’For now, it’s better not to scare them.’
Seeing they still looked uneasy, Chen Xing said, "The next time we find a lone Advanced Zombie, I’ll let you guys get some practice!"
"Okay!" After agreeing, Hong Hui latched onto another key word: lone.
’What if they encountered a whole group of Advanced Zombies?’
’Oh god, I can’t even bear to think about it!’
The next day, the weather suddenly turned warm.
A few hours later, the snow melted.
Since they could drive again, they continued heading north.
By the time dusk fell, they were already approaching the Capital City.
The weather was deathly humid, so Chen Xing chose a spot on the edge of a forest to park and set up camp.
"Feibai, I bet all the delicacies in your Hundred Treasure Box couldn’t handle this heat. They’ve probably all gone bad, huh?" Hong Hui said, feeling a pang of regret for the loss.
For the past few days, Li Feibai had been able to produce all sorts of delicacies for every meal, but they were all frozen.
With the sudden turn to warm weather today, the frozen goods had probably all thawed.
But to their surprise, Li Feibai went to the back seat of his sports car and brought out a sealed bag.
Inside were specially-prepared salted egg yolks and a few salted fish.
Hong Hui and Da Bai were speechless. ’He really is loaded!’
’Before the apocalypse, that salted fish would have cost at least five hundred yuan per pound.’
After dinner, everyone lay back on deck chairs, gazing up at the star-filled sky.
Li Feibai asked Chen Xing for her name for the umpteenth time.
And for the umpteenth time, Chen Xing didn’t answer.
Just then, the sound of approaching vehicles came from the south, heading north.
Since there might be monsters in the mountains, they had parked on the shoulder of the road.
To intimidate any passersby, Meng Hu was crouched with its front paws on the ground, facing the road with a majestic air.
Several trucks passed by, the people in their cabs all staring at Chen Xing’s group.
Chen Xing’s brow furrowed slightly.
’These trucks belong to the Migratory Clan.’
Just as she was wondering whether she should chase after them, the idiots, who clearly had a death wish, actually turned their trucks around.
They saw Meng Hu and realized that Chen Xing must be the person the Migratory Clan had placed a high bounty on, and they wanted to claim the reward.
There were over three hundred of them on this trip; there was no way they were going to be afraid of one young woman.
The trucks slowly came to a stop behind Meng Hu.
The first person to get out of a truck shot something at Meng Hu’s rear.
Meng Hu dodged it with a flick of its hindquarters.
The object fell to the ground—it was a needle as thick as a little finger.
Meng Hu was instantly enraged.
But... Chen Xing noticed that the hatred in Li Feibai’s eyes was even more intense than Meng Hu’s anger.
"Chen Xing... You’re Chen Xing, aren’t you?" One after another, more than three hundred people poured out of the truck beds, aiming all their weapons at them.
Li Feibai shot a surprised look at Chen Xing.
Chen Xing turned and shouted to Da Bai, "Protect those two!"
Then, she gave Meng Hu the command to attack.
As Meng Hu leaped into action, she gathered an electrical current in her hands and unleashed a continuous barrage.
In an instant, dozens of their opponents fell.
The members of the Migratory Clan immediately launched their own attack, forming a line and opening fire on Chen Xing’s group, mixing in some of their own superpowers.
’The order was to take her alive, preferably,’ they thought, ’but dead should be fine too, right?’
Li Feibai instantly darted out of the danger zone. He then circled around to the enemy’s rear, pulled a gun from the bag he never went anywhere without, and started shooting.
Meanwhile, Da Bai and Hong Hui stood on either side of the two they were protecting. All the bullets that flew toward them seemed to hit an invisible wall and fall to the ground.
’A defensive Superpower User was exactly what I asked Captain Lu for.’
After the first volley, Chen Xing simply sat down to rest.
Meng Hu and Li Feibai, the two of them, were slaughtering the enemy in a truly gruesome fashion.
Out of more than three hundred people, a huge number were dead or wounded.
When the slaughter was over, Meng Hu didn’t forget to collect the Crystal Cores for its master.
Li Feibai’s eyes were bloodshot from the killing frenzy, and it took him a long while to come back to his senses.
Chen Xing noticed two more trucks with their doors still closed, so she walked over and opened them.
It wasn’t cargo inside, but a truck full of people, all of them staring at her in terror.
They were mostly women, with a few men among them.
Among the crowd, Chen Xing’s eyes were immediately drawn to two people.
Two people who shouldn’t have been there.
Wu Qinglong and Wang Shiqi.
’They’re supposed to be in the Duole Safety Zone. What are they doing here?’
Wu Qinglong was no longer as clean and sharp as when she had last seen him in the Capital City’s underground. He was now dressed in ragged clothes, disheveled and grimy—looking quite a bit like he did in her past life.
Wang Shiqi, by contrast, was very clean.
She seemed to be well-treated and showed no sign of fear.
Wu Qinglong inadvertently revealed a flicker of surprise upon seeing Chen Xing, but it vanished in an instant.
Wang Shiqi also recognized Chen Xing at a glance from their meeting in the Capital City and immediately stepped forward with a friendly greeting. "Hey, it’s you! Remember me? We met in the National Capital Safety Zone!"
