Chapter 186 - 183: Octopus Monster
Chapter 186: Chapter 183: Octopus Monster
Following the sound, she looked over and saw a long, octopus-tentacle-like thing extending toward them from inside the meter-wide pipe.
The thing moved quickly, stretching as if without limit until it was right in front of them.
Chen Xing pinned the tentacle with the tip of her knife.
Immediately after, another tentacle stretched out. This one was even bigger and thicker than the last.
Chen Xing used her other knife to pin that tentacle as well.
When she looked deeper into the pipe, she saw several more tentacles stirring restlessly. One was already rushing toward them.
’With 00002 here, I can’t take weapons out of my storage space, and I definitely can’t pull out a bomb.’
As for her electricity, she didn’t dare try it.
’The floor and walls are all sheet metal. If the current arcs back, I’ll be fine, but I’m afraid 00002 won’t be able to handle it.’
’Can’t stay here!’
Chen Xing reacted instantly, kicking open the small pipe door and jumping out.
’Zombie dogs are easier to deal with than this thing.’
Seeing this, 00002 followed her out.
The tentacles, however, didn’t charge out. They reached the pipe’s opening, swayed for a moment, and then retreated.
Just then, the zombie dogs became ferocious and charged at Chen Xing together.
Chen Xing had to watch out for 00002, so she didn’t rush forward recklessly.
Instead, she used her electricity to attack the zombie dogs’ heads from a distance.
The dense horde of zombie dogs was quickly decimated by the electrical currents, and a large number of them collapsed.
She turned back to 00002 and said, "Go back the way you came. Wait for me at home!"
Although 00002 was reluctant, he still turned to leave.
Chen Xing then stepped over the zombie dog corpses and went through another door.
It was another series of glass rooms.
The rooms were almost all empty, except for a few that contained something.
As for what those things were, she couldn’t see clearly.
She could only see something moving inside from time to time.
Just as she was passing by these rooms, the power suddenly came on.
Bathed in the light, the rooms looked extraordinarily white—a whiteness that made Chen Xing uneasy.
This uneasiness startled her, freezing her in place.
Something seemed to flash through her mind, but she couldn’t grasp the thought.
In the moment she was frozen, the things that had been stirring inside several glass rooms broke through the glass doors and rushed straight for her.
She seemed unaware, completely lost in her own thoughts and oblivious to the approaching objects.
Tentacles swarming from several directions converged on the room where Chen Xing stood motionless.
Almost in unison, they raised their tentacles and shot them toward Chen Xing’s body, aiming to pierce through her.
Just as the tentacles were about to pierce Chen Xing’s body, several streams of electricity instantly flowed out of her, spreading in all directions.
The tentacles instantly withered like dead branches.
Chen Xing didn’t dare let her guard down. ’This thing will send more.’
Sure enough, in the blink of an eye, more long tentacles were stretching toward her.
Chen Xing leaped into the air, expanding her field of vision to locate their main bodies.
Following the tentacles, she reached the nearest glass room.
Under the bed in the room sat a person... or rather, it was only a person from the waist up. Below the waist was an octopus-like mass.
The tentacles attacking her originated from beneath the human torso.
Chen Xing was disgusted. The sight made her extremely uncomfortable.
’That’s clearly a person, so how could it be fused with an octopus-like creature?’
Just imagining it was enough to make Chen Xing picture the gruesome scene.
At that moment, the octopus monster attacked her again, this time spewing black saliva from its mouth.
Chen Xing dodged to the side.
The black saliva landed on the floor, instantly corroding it.
Chen Xing steeled herself, and a current of electricity shot from her hand, blasting straight through the top of the octopus monster’s head.
As a Crystal Core fell out, the octopus monster instantly withered away.
There were still tentacles moving in five other rooms, so she dealt with them as quickly as possible.
As she finished off the last octopus monster, she suddenly sensed Meng Hu.
Although it was very brief, Meng Hu’s anger was transmitted to her with perfect clarity.
And she knew Meng Hu was nearby.
She quickly opened a large iron door at the very end of the hall and instantly ran through it.
In her anxiety, she didn’t notice that behind her, in the rows of glass rooms, small, half-human, half-monster octopus creatures were waking up.
After rushing through the door, Chen Xing saw Meng Hu tied to a large bed. On another bed next to it lay an unconscious person.
Between them, a machine was running, and numerous tubes could be seen connecting the two.
’Fuck!’
Her rage flared instantly.
Two people in white lab coats turned to look at her in terror, freezing all movement. "Who... who are you?"
"The person who’s here to kill you!" As the words fell, Chen Xing lunged forward, and her long knife pierced through both of their heads.
She looked down at Meng Hu. Its blood was flowing out of its body.
Chen Xing severed the tubes with a single slash and pulled out the things inserted into Meng Hu’s body.
At that moment, Meng Hu slowly regained consciousness, its eyes filled with grievance as it looked at Chen Xing.
In a rare show of gentleness, Chen Xing stepped forward and gently stroked its head.
Several patches of its fur had been shaved off.
Just as her anger was about to boil over again, the man on the adjacent bed woke up.
His eyes were hazy as he looked at the unfamiliar surroundings.
Suppressing her rage, Chen Xing pulled all the things off his body as well.
"Where... where am I?" The man, whose head had been shaved bald, was wearing a white hospital gown and forced himself to sit up.
He seemed to be in pain, unable to remember anything.
It was probably due to a long time without seeing sunlight. His face was exceptionally pale, so pale that you could see the blue veins beneath his skin.
"You were captured by the Xingguang Research Institute! I came to save my tiger and ended up saving you too!" Chen Xing hadn’t planned on getting involved with him, but she felt that leaving him here would be letting the Research Institute off too easily. "I have friends who also escaped from this Research Institute, just like you. Why don’t you come with me?"
By now, Meng Hu had mostly recovered. It jumped off the bed and followed Chen Xing.
Chen Xing temporarily designated the man as 00003 and led him back the way they came.
But just as they stepped through the doorway, they saw countless tentacles writhing inside the glass rooms.
It was the kind of sight that would give someone with trypophobia a fatal heart attack.
Even though Chen Xing wasn’t afraid of these things, she was worried she wouldn’t be able to protect the injured Meng Hu and 00003, so she swung the heavy iron door shut.
She looked toward the door on the other side.
’What’s behind this door?’
Just as Chen Xing was about to open the door, 00003 suddenly shouted, "Don’t open that door!"
Chen Xing looked back at him.
But he couldn’t say why, only shaking his head, looking terrified.
"I’m just scared. I have a feeling there’s something terrifying behind it!" 00003 said, looking anguished.
Chen Xing was speechless. ’But I can’t just not go anywhere, can I?’
’If I have to pick one, this side is probably better, right?’
"It’s fine! Just follow me from a distance!" After reassuring him, Chen Xing pulled the door open, ignoring 00003’s terrified expression.
