Chapter 446: But Your Blade, It Might Be Too Sharp

[FROLO]

The kidnappings were quiet, like two people just making their way across the city, without any attention drawn.

One with the power, and from the Psych Ward.

While the other was being forced to listen to the kind of threats that would make even the devil take a chill pill.

It was nasty, and Frolo was unaware of it.

They didn’t know the chaos being perpetrated and were still stuck on the fact that Sergei may or may not have murdered thirteen government officials.

It was something that neither wished to talk of.

However, as the Farm’s population increased every hour with the lovers of the president’s wife and the people President Boris had slept with over the years, there was no telling what Frolo would be like anymore.

Hearts shattered daily, like it was the kind of torture they were supposed to look forward to. And in a great twist of fate, while everything was happening, Mr. Romanov held a press conference for the first time in what felt like ages.

The man who never bothered to stand in front of cameras.

The man who did everything behind the scenes and didn’t care about what the fuck life would mean for him inside Frolo.

The man who never involved himself in chaos yet had allied himself with Sergei.

That man...

That man was holding a press conference.

Not from the Romanov Steel company, no.

From inside Katya Romanov’s bedroom. The bed that hadn’t been slept on for five weeks. The sheets that shouldn’t have been changed for five weeks, in the hope that maybe. Just maybe Katya would come home.

The window curtains that looked like they hadn’t been drawn for ages. And the floor where the last of Katya’s sanity should once have been.

This time, Mr. Romanov was with Masha Romanova, the woman who barely bothered with politics and a public life.

And in her arms was a sweater.

One that Katya had worn one of the last days he was seen.

But those with eyes...

They knew whose sweater that was.

Sergei. Moskowsky.

"We are calling the government to help us find our child. Michka was arrested by the government on terrorism charges. They told us our son would be held for five hours and then released to us while investigations continued.

"It’s been five weeks, and I don’t know if my child is dead or alive," Masha begged, holding onto the sweater like it was her only hope.

And the city...

The city ate it up.

They had not seen Sergei in five weeks either.

They didn’t know where Sergei was or what he did.

The only thing the city was almost sure of was that the dead officials were murdered by Sergei. And their proof was simply the S on the bodies.

But even that could possibly have been replicated by anyone who wanted to send a message; that was what the city was slowly understanding.

Because Masha Romanov was a mother.

A mother begging the president to help bring back her son.

A mother showing her son’s room in the hopes that the government could see how empty it was and bring the omega back to them. It was a long shot, but by the time the live conference was done, the city was on Masha Romanov’s side.

The side of the mother who had been holding her tears back.

The side of the mother who looked so tired and desperate to know where her child was.

The side of a mother who only wanted proof of life.

And worse, the side of a mother who had been lied to by the government. The same entity that was supposed to protect the citizens of Frolo.

Masha didn’t even mention Sergei in her plea for help, and that was what resonated with everyone. Because Masha wasn’t saying that Sergei wasn’t innocent or that Katya was innocent.

She was begging as a mother.

A mother who was worried for a child.

A mother who had cried through sleepless nights, hoping. Waiting for the call to come to her son. Needing to understand what had happened to her child.

That was all.

A mother.

Soon the media houses that had spent weeks making the public think that Katya Romanov had stepped back from the limelight, that Katya Romanov had chosen a peaceful life, were booming with one voice.

Amplifying the voice of Masha Romanova.

The voice of a mother.

"The first lady not saying anything about a mother’s pain right in the middle of a pandemic and hunt is cruel.

"Katya Romanov is an omega. No omega, no matter how strong a backing he has, will ever put himself in the line of fire that carelessly."

"We all know the rules that apply to omegas, and I refuse to believe that the kind, sweet, humane Katya Romanov suddenly turned into a terrorist just because his boyfriend is the devil."

"Even the senator weeks ago came and told us that he believed Katya Romanov was innocent. And five weeks later, a mother is still desperately looking for her omega son."

"Where are the lines drawn, President Boris? Who gets to protect omegas if the president is kidnapping omegas and holding them while lying to their mothers?"

The news cycles were brutal.

They were the kind of shit that had everyone siding with the Romanovs.

Because throughout this fight that Sergei had, the city had long learned that Katya’s peace was Sergei’s priority. They had seen it a few times too many.

While they expected the Romanov-Moskowsky alliance to be the one that ruined lives, turns out the alliance, to the public, was just to create better tech and weaponry. The kind of thing that wasn’t used in wars.

The Romanovs had remained legitimate through and through.

Even after having allied with the Moskowskys.

Once again, Frolo was asking just why they were made to believe that Mr. Romanov’s family had changed when, in truth, the man had just signed a business contract. Not a war contract with the Moskowskys.

Hell, there were references made to the fact that Yaroslav Moskowsky was back working at Knox Tech as the CEO. It was all that Frolo needed to know that things were not what they seemed and they had been misled.

Because if there was a war, really, wouldn’t Yaroslav have been the one at the forefront defending his father? Yaroslav had already made sure to warn the city once against coming after his father.

Then the man went to Knox and sat behind a desk.

That wasn’t the kind of thing anyone who knew his father was in danger would do.

And Frolo...

Gods, Frolo was poking holes in everything.

Even the disappearance of Sergei Moskowsky from the public space.

"He loves Katya so much. We’ve all seen what he would do for Katya."

"What if Katya told him not to burn the city, and now the Devil of Frolo is somewhere trying to be a model citizen because he listened to his true mate?"

"He listens to Katya. Maybe that’s why nothing had happened yet."

"The same Romanov omega the government is hiding away."

"Release Katya Romanov!!!" the city decided.

And boy was it going to be a long season for the president.

Because as the public sided with Masha Romanova’s plight to have her son back home, the news about Sergei hitting the bunker and massacring almost half the soldiers down there reached President Boris...

Along with Chief Zhenya.
