Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 445: Even Up Against The Wall, Our Love Is Untouchable
[FROLO]
The aisles were busy with people running back into their shelters, determined to stay out of the hallways.
"The Devil of Frolo is here," the whispers continued. Like the horror of horrors had finally set foot in what they considered their space.
Many had particularly come to stay under here because they were victims of Sergei. Maybe by association, or maybe because of the rumor that had gotten them so scared.
Because if it was for the massacre that had happened years ago, Sergei would clean up everyone.
Daniil had only survived because he served a different purpose. A kind of thing that Sergei had allowed Rastenkin.
Maybe that was why Sergei was revered when people ran away from him like he was the plague. They were all very lucky he wasn’t in the mood to engage in fire exchanges with the soldiers under here.
But clearly the soldiers thought otherwise because one moment Sergei was simply trying to get his beloved, and the next people were shooting at him.
The first bullet that hit him had his entire team pausing.
Sergei Moskowsky had been shot.
He had been shot.
The man in question just stared at the bullet, pulled it out of his chest, and stared at the soldier who had shot him.
"If I don’t get to my beloved sooner, I will hunt you down," Sergei swore, ignoring the bullets he was being riddled with.
For a moment, everyone was confused.
His team stared at the people watching him.
But Rastenkin knew.
Of course, he knew.
Sergei had shielded himself using an invisible pheromone shield. It was the only reason the bullets could reach him, and he could pull them out like they were annoying little things that were ruining his outfit.
Everyone else was too shocked to even breathe, especially seeing as the Myrtles had been beside Sergei at war for the longest time.
But Sergei wasn’t going to wait for them to finish marveling at him.
He needed to get to aisle R016.
The tracker was moving fast, and he could feel it. But Sergei was faster, and with the majority of the hallways cleared up, it wasn’t that hard to find where aisle R016 was.
But when Sergei and his Myrtles got there, they were met with the shock of a lifetime.
Or was it for a moment?
It was hard to tell with the smirk on Sergei’s face as the alpha’s eyes turned completely red.
"What the fuck is wrong with these people?" Elara asked for what felt like the hundredth time. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, and frankly it was unsettling. It was bad enough that they had kept Katya away from Sergei.
But to point their guns at Katya Romanov??
All seven of them were either the stupidest thing they could have thought of, or they were suicidal.
Katya not even being scared should have terrified them too, but clearly, they were too lost in their desire to bring down Sergei that they forgot that they couldn’t scare someone who wasn’t scared.
"Little wolf," Sergei breathed in excitement.
He looked like he had been waiting for a chance to kill so many people since the day began, and he wasn’t about to give it up.
Instinctively, the Myrtles stepped back, not willing to be a part of the damage or whatever the fuck would happen when Sergei decided this was a game, then a rescue mission.
"You look famished, alpha," Katya teased, like he didn’t have guns pointed at him.
Or maybe he was done fighting.
Too tired of trying to think of what would happen, Katya was choosing to focus on the greatest positive that was right in front of him. Maybe it wasn’t so bad. Maybe it wasn’t so bad, but it also showed Sergei something.
Before all of this, Katya would have been terrified.
He would have advocated for a better way out. He would have tried to talk Sergei out of violence.
This Katya thought...
He had changed.
He was not scared.
If anything, the only thing in his eyes as his dark ones met Sergei’s red eyes was trust. Absolute trust in the alpha who was already showing signs of going feral. It was not what anyone had assumed, and it was terrifying.
It should have been the first sign for the soldiers to step back, but they didn’t.
Their guns stayed on Katya Romanov.
Behind the Myrtles, the snipers had arrived.
"What the hell do they think they are doing?" Rahim asked, as he looked at Sergei, who was approaching Katya carefully, and then at the group of soldiers a few feet behind Katya.
Or maybe that was what they considered a safe distance.
"Challenging Sergio," Rastenkin laughed as they all readied themselves.
Rahim and Volkov still held their sniping gear ready to use.
"Why do they bother sending weak soldiers to the battlefield if this is how shit is going to be? Look at them shaking like leaves. Their targets are off mark," Volkov said, making the others facepalm.
An agitated Sergei was already heading toward Katya, walking slowly like a predator who had finally managed to get the one thing he wanted for a while.
"Do what you have to do; I trust my alpha," Katya said.
And that...
That was the cue Sergei needed to shift into his wolf and jump past Katya and begin attacking the soldiers. It had been a while since he had shifted, and right now, as he fought off the men with guns in their hands aimed at his beloved, Sergei was swift.
He always had been.
His growls were loud enough to shake the bunker; hell, even Katya had to cover his ears from how menacing Sergei sounded.
And worse, the sound of bones being crushed by wolf teeth, the screams of soldiers who were probably following orders. But that didn’t matter right now.
Sergei had waited for five weeks.
Five weeks without seeing Katya, and the first sight that met him was his mate being used as a target. And that set him off.
He tore through skin like it was minced meat. Ripped through the bodies like he had been planning this for a while.
Sergei had been thinking of what he would have done the moment he laid his eyes on Katya.
He knew he didn’t want Katya to see him being brutal.
But then Katya said he trusted Sergei, and all that the alpha had been holding onto seemed to flip a new script.
Because even the soldier who had managed to run for the pile of bodies with unused guns, the soldier who was still firing at the raging alpha wolf and missing occasionally, didn’t make it far.
Because Sergei lunged at his neck and tore through his throat in one swift move.
He was ruthless with it all.
And once he was sure there was no other threat to his omega...
Once he was sure no one would hurt Katya in this aisle anymore, Sergei kept his distance. He didn’t step forward, nor did he go back.
He just stared at the same spot, still in his wolf form.
Still looking like he wasn’t sure Katya Romanov would want to see him like that. Especially given the fact that Katya was still facing the Myrtles even after the screams were over.
"He’s yours now, Romanov," Rastenkin said before he noticed a figure moving behind Sergei.
"Katya! Duck!" Rastenkin shouted, and Katya did.
Only that the bullet being aimed...
Wasn’t for Katya Romanov.
It was aimed at Sergei.
The wolf who was waiting for his omega.
The silver bullet tore through Sergei’s wolf form, embedding itself in the alpha’s abdomen.
Unexpectedly, Katya didn’t scream in horror.
He just grabbed the nearest gun...
And the Romanov omega fired back.
Not once. Not twice.
He emptied the barrel on the man who had shot Sergei while he moved toward his alpha. And even when he got there, Katya didn’t stop.
Not until the magazine was empty.
Only then did Katya take out his stained jacket to cover Sergei.
"Alpha," he keened.
"My strong alpha." Katya kissed the wolf’s muzzle, then pulled the bullet out.
"Moy Lyubim," Sergei mumbled.
Only then did Sergei shift into his human form, surrendering in Katya’s arms and letting the sleep he’d missed out on consume him.
He was tired.
But he had his omega back.
Even if he had a hole in his abdomen.
Somewhere in Frolo, Latif was watching the live footage of the underground bunker war.
"This omega is going to be a problem for us," Latif tsked in recognition.
