Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 319: Flowers In The Hand Of A Ghost
[FROLO]
Sergei Moskowsky was too composed.
That was the first thing Frolo noticed when the alpha appeared on their screens with a single sheet of paper, as if he had summarized all he had to say on that sheet. It was more unsettling than if he had come raging.
Because they knew what Alek had done.
They knew what that meant.
The people of Frolo knew the senator was in trouble because anyone in their right mind would never have used a miscarriage as political ammunition right after resigning.
It was the lowest of things that the senator had ever done, and there was no reasoning with him for that.
"I’m here with the results of the investigation into the explosion that happened in Moskowsky Holdings a week ago," Sergei began, his tone flat, cold, and bored. He looked like he had better things to do.
Like this was the kind of formality he wasn’t interested in.
And the people knew that Sergei could have let the investigators give the official feedback. That anyone would have done what he was doing, with his permission, of course.
Yet he had come himself.
That alone was far more terrifying than whatever the result of the investigation they had been hoping to get already.
"The explosion happened because of a technical problem with one of the prototypes at the expo. It was an unfortunate incident that resulted in a few injuries.
"Moskowsky has already compensated the victims, and we will do better with such events," Sergei said, staring into the camera. He wasn’t even reading off the paper. The people had long noticed.
And that meant something else.
Sergei Moskowsky was giving them the corporate version of the investigation results.
"Now onto the video that circulated the day of the explosion. Chairman Romanov did not betray Moskowsky as they had all been led to believe. I do not care what you think;
"...but I’m here to make sure neither of you targets my chairman for whatever reason. I’m also aware of the second video circulating of me torturing the chairman.
"Use your brains," Sergei said before he crumpled the paper he had come with in his hands. He looked like he was so done.
"One last thing before I leave for work: I warned you against being the trigger for some tears in the city when I blew up the Senate. You didn’t listen.
"Now let’s dance, Frolo. I hope you are wearing comfortable shoes. It’s going to be a long one," Sergei said calmly, making sure to even smile warmly at the camera like he wasn’t pissed that there was starting to be an epidemic of people creating fakes of Katya.
The fact that they had shown Katya being hurt by Sergei had triggered the alpha so badly. He couldn’t even believe that was what people were thinking. It was honestly the first time Sergei was damn pissed about what people were saying about him.
This was madness.
Fuck.
"That went better than I expected," Anya said once Sergei returned to his office. He knew he wasn’t in his right mind, and he didn’t want to go back to Katya feeling like shit or even looking angry.
He hoped his Solnyshka wasn’t pissed that Sergei was changing.
But even so, Sergei wasn’t going to forgive anyone.
"Yaroslav ditched his bodyguards earlier today," Sergei said, like he was trying to gauge something. His son had clearly reacted to the contract marriage and the accusation that Alek had thrown out there.
He was expecting him anytime soon, really, because at the end of the day, he owed his son an explanation.
He knew the truth was not going to be one that Yaro leaned into, but then Sergei had never lied to his son. He wasn’t about to.
"Should we activate the chip in his arm and see where he is?" Anya asked calmly.
"No. He will come for me when he’s ready. Start surveillance on him on the fifth day if he doesn’t go home to his matrimonial residence," Sergei said calmly, knowing damn well that that was the one thing he wasn’t even sure how to deal with.
On one end was his son.
On the other hand was the man he loved.
Sergei would give up his life for Yaroslav, and as much as it would hurt him to step aside, a part of him was aware that there was the possibility that he would have to leave Katya’s side because of his son.
But at the same time, a selfish part of him hoped Katya would fight for his own choice. Whatever it was.
Gods, the man was a sucker for Katya Romanov.
"If you need anything, you know where to find me," Anya said, and Sergei smiled at her softly.
"Alright, lemme clear my workload before Solnyshka resumes work," Sergei laughed lightly, and Anya excused herself.
She knew that Sergei wouldn’t get up until he was sure the work that remained was not too much for Katya to handle, especially after that darn break.
However, when Anya stepped out of Sergei’s inner office and to the front desk where Volkov sat, she was met by a horrified secretary.
Volkov was ever horrid, but anything that wasn’t Sergei Moskowsky. And right now, he had no reason to be that horrified, given they were on good terms with Sergei and the alpha was in a pretty good mood at the moment.
"What is it?" Anya asked, her voice going lower for a moment.
"Romanov ran," Volkov wrote on a piece of paper instead, making Anya stare at him and then at the door she had just closed.
There was no way Sergei would have been that relaxed if he knew Katya ran.
"Yoh, boy genius, I’m taking your secretary with me for a while. Don’t look for him!" Anya shouted suddenly, and a snort was heard from Sergei’s office.
"Don’t kill him, he’s the only secretary who tolerates me on a normal day!" Sergei said, and Volkov smiled at the statement.
But then the moment they stepped out and into Anya’s office, Volkov couldn’t even get himself to sit down.
"What the fuck do you mean, Katya Romanov ran, Volkov?" Anya asked, like she was not being paid enough for this.
Then again, they were in the middle of a damn war, and the omega at the epicenter of it all was running? What the fuck?
"Here’s the footage we got from the penthouse," Volkov said as he turned on Anya’s laptop and logged in to show her the footage.
"He didn’t run," Anya said the moment the footage began playing.
"He told the pilot he’d run for real if we went to find him. Hell, if Mr. Moskowsky went to find him... Do we go clean up the penthouse?" Volkov asked after telling Anya what the pilot had told him.
It was something that terrified him because, at the end of the day, there was a heartbroken omega out there and a very unstable alpha who was working his ass off just to take the weight off of Katya’s schedule.
"What of his friends?" Anya sighed.
"Even them," Volkov said, like the world was spinning in different directions for them.
"Don’t clean the penthouse. He will know. As for Romanov disappearing, there isn’t much we can do. Sergei will just have to find that out for himself.
"Until then, I’ll stack up meetings in Katya’s name so he stays working," Anya said, like that was the only option left.
But was it workable, though?
