Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 140: Protect, Serve, Hold... Right?
[FROLO]
With Sergei gone, Yaroslav went back to his fringe in the backyard. Only that this time, he was way sober for a man who had spent the entire morning drinking his ass off.
He looked like he had just discovered that water was wet and fuck if it wasn’t messing with him.
"Yoh Gamov, why do you look constipated?" Nik asked once Yaroslav took his seat and grabbed the nearest can of beer. He was losing his mind from too much thinking, and yet he looked like he still needed more time.
"I think father might be going after my husband," Yaroslav said, his voice panicked. He sounded like he had seen hell and didn’t want Katya to end up in that shit.
Then again, at the moment, there wasn’t ever going to be much for him to work through if he wasn’t careful.
This wasn’t just any person he was talking about.
This was his father.
And worse, this was Sergei Moskowsky. The man who had burned Nikolai’s semiconductor plant and never once apologized for it or even the damages and lives that had been lost.
He had moved like it was a normal day. Perhaps that was why hearing Yaroslav talk like that gave Nik flashbacks about what Sergei Moskowsky was truly capable of.
"That doesn’t sound good at all. What happened?" Nik asked, and given they were best friends, Yaro didn’t leave it a detail of the meeting with his father earlier.
When he was done...
Nikolai was sweating buckets in the fair weather.
"Legal husband? Yeah, that doesn’t sound calming at all," Nikolai said, the horror he had experienced at the barbarian’s hands an unwelcome memory that kept stalking him at every mention of Sergei Moskowsky.
"The way he kept insisting... The senator and Katya are in danger. And as much as I hate to admit it. I have to find a way to keep Katya safe, especially if Father thinks that Katya going out with the senator is a stain on our reputation.
"My father never misses targets, and if he can threaten a woman who just gave birth a month ago, there is nothing that we can put past him," Yaroslav sighed in defeat as the thought of Katya, weak and merciless in front of Sergei, hit him.
It was not a thing that Yaroslav wanted to imagine, because that scared the shit out of him.
Katya was the love of his life, and he couldn’t afford to lose the omega.
Not even to his father’s cruelty.
That was just the kind of shit he was into going to give in to.
Not now.
Not Katya.
Never Katya.
"Bro, I’d say the senator will protect Katya, but then remember who your father really is... If he is going after your husband, then Katya is screwed already.
"You need to get Katya out of his line of sight, which could be hard given he is the Chairperson at Moskowsky Group and won’t even talk to you," Nikolai said, and Yaroslav groaned.
He never thought that his impunity would push him into such a fucked-up corner. But what the fuck was he supposed to do? Forget about the chaos and go into a world he knew not much about? A life that had the senator seated at the high table?
"There was no mercy in that shit, and there was also no denying that things would be the same for Yaroslav. He already had a baby mama who was stressing him out, and he had to deal with his father hunting his hubs, too.
Where was the break he needed?
Fuck, Yaroslav was conflicted.
"I can’t go back to him because Father will definitely know, so things are up. And I can’t exactly send Milan because the psycho woman sent trolls after Katya," Yaroslav scoffed defeatedly.
Nikolai paused suddenly, almost like he was gathering whatever was left of his brain cells to start comprehending things. It wasn’t exactly helpful, but it wasn’t bad either. Maybe that was why this was feeling a bit different.
But would it matter when the omega went down, or would this just be another Chapter in the history books no one paid attention to?
"Why the fuck would Milan even go after Katya? Does she know what your plan was with her?" Nikolai asked, adding the last bit in a shushed tone, even though it was just the two of them
But then this was a sensitive subject, and they needed to tread very carefully. It didn’t matter what could happen along the way as long as life was better for everyone. And right now, that shit wasn’t even better for Yaroslav himself.
So, what the heck, right?
"Hell, if I know. Plus, she doesn’t know why we really had a baby. The way she was talking to father, you would think she was the queen of the Moskowsky household," Yarov said exaggeratedly.
Nikolai burst out laughing at the absurdity. The idea itself was absurd in his head because he couldn’t imagine someone as tiny as Milan standing in front of Sergei Moskowsky and running her mouth.
That was an actual recipe for disaster.
A proven poisonous pill that she was never going to get rid of. Because no one ever challenged Sergei and lived. Worse, Sergei Moskowsky never forgot shit. He had enemies going back decades, and he remembered them all.
Nik had been there when Sergei had been outsourcing Yaroslav to their business, and how to be careful of their weaknesses. The man himself was a fortress in every way. Perhaps it would be easier eventually, no?
"Well then, you got the perfect Moskowsky, haven’t you? Because that woman is very unhinged and wouldn’t probably start a fight with Sergei.
"If it’s any comfort, my friend, at least you won’t be bored when you marry her," Nik said, laughing his heart out at the madness.
Milan was crazy. Maybe stupid for trying shit with Sergei. What she had tried with the devil of Frolo was enough to land her in a list with the damn man. Yet from what Yaro was saying, Milan didn’t give a damn.
"This is not funny. My baby mama is running her mouth and could get us all killed. And my husband is out there having fun with the senator, not knowing that life sucks so ties and that there could be an actual target behind him.
"What the heck am I to do then?" Yaroslav asked frustratedly.
Having his father point a target at someone was never this stressful.
But then again, Yaroslav knew he had to keep Katya safe. It was the only thing that he needed to do because if he lost Katya, then he would lose the one thing that truly kept him sane.
That was too dangerous for him.
Way too dangerous.
"Maybe you need to watch him. And be sure that your translation of your father’s words was right. Because your father won’t take chances on what he finds out you have a tail on him," Nikolai explained.
Yaroslav couldn’t help but feel like the mm was right.
Sergei was not a good enemy to make.
But what if that was the only way to save Katya?
Would Yaroslav put his brain to work then?
"Looks like I’ll be going to work tomorrow, fuck," Yaroslav sighed, but deep down, he knew this was the only way.
Katya was too important to lose the hands of his father.
"Cheers to your legal husband!" Nikolai cheered, knowing the future would probably be fucked for them both.
Again.
