[FROLO]

"What’s up, Yaro... There are still guests outside," Milan said as she looked toward the door, clearly ignorant of why she had been called to this room. But she would understand eventually.

"Where’s the black card I gave you?" Yaroslav asked, not beating around the bush.

He didn’t have time.

Milan looked at him like the man couldn’t be serious with his questions. Maybe she had heard him wrong, but the way Yaroslav was looking at her like she needed to have an answer before he did something stupid made her smirk at him in disbelief.

"You got me out of that gathering to ask me about YOUR damn finances? What the fuck. Yaro?" Milan asked, clearly not appreciating what Yaroslav was doing. It was almost like she couldn’t deal with this right now.

And maybe that was the truth.

The whole month had seen people coming in and leaving the residence like Milan’s house was a stop on the highway. It was hectic on most days, yet she had to smile at the visitors, be at her best, and make sure they left with happy faces.

It was a lot of work on her end each time.

Hell, she had to stand on the side and watch them carry her baby and pose for photos while all she wanted was to get some rest. Granted, there were servants in the house thanks to the Moskowskys, but it didn’t make it all any better.

In fact, it only added pressure on her to be perfect. To keep the reputation of the Moskowsky family intact. To show the world that the baby was a needed light that was being shed into the kindness of the Moskowskys.

The woman hadn’t even had a proper break in weeks.

So this?

This wasn’t what she was in the mood for. Not now.

"Answer the question, Milan. Where the fuck is your card?" Yaroslav asked, and Milan raised a brow at him.

That was not the language they used with each other.

Never like that.

"I don’t know what’s gotten into you. But I’m not some schoolgirl you summon to scold. You reek. You haven’t done shit right for the whole month. It’s like you gave me the baby and got down with me.

"Now I’m going to leave, and if you want to talk to me, you’d better do it right, otherwise those reporters down there will know just how romantic my first month with you and the young Moskowsky kid has been.

"Never. Ever. Summon me again," Milan said as she stormed out.

And her exit would have had the perfect weight, but before she got to the door, Sergei spoke.

"Nice speech, Miss Popova. Now sit the fuck down," Sergei said, his tone so cold that even Yaroslav flinched.

This was about Sergei’s omega.

His Katya.

And he would be damned if he let his son’s ten years situationship mess the state that Katya was in at the moment.

In fact, he was hoping Katya would curse this woman out because then Sergei would have a really good reason to cut her head from her neck.

It wasn’t that hard for him.

"Oh, great. Now I get to be punished by your daddy, too? I won’t be threatened by the two of you. I have the Moskowsky heiress; you two need to rethink whatever it is you have going on," Milan said confidently.

Yaroslav just facepalmed.

He had always known Milan thought that having a Moskowsky child would have her at the higher table or higher ranks.

Especially now that Erika was given Knox tech.

Maybe she believed that she was the most important person in their lives, but who was to tell her that the omega who never caused trouble, the omega who hated these guys, was the one person they would burn the city down for without question?

That Milan was just a placeholder who wasn’t even doing a good job at it?

"People die, Milan, and life still goes on. Babies die, too. Maybe from choking on milk. A bad feeding session. Maybe underdeveloped lungs. Wrong vaccines. Babies die, and more babies are made with time," Sergei said, walking from behind the table.

His statement had Yaroslav staring at his father like the man couldn’t do that. It was the cruelest of things to even insinuate, yet for Sergei, nothing was beyond limits if he wanted to see a smile on Katya’s face.

Nothing was ever going to be worthier than the omega who was out there having coffee dates with fucking senator Aleksandr. Maybe Milan needed to be reminded.

Yet the way that Sergei spoke so calmly had the woman stiffening.

Maybe she was finally remembering that before Sergei was the grandfather of her child, Sergei’s Moskowsky was a monster. The devil of Frolo, and a man who only ever loved two people in the city.

His son.

His son’s father... Vitya.

Maybe Milan had forgotten that.

But Sergei was never beyond a good reminder of what he needed to do. Perhaps that was what Milan needed, no? After all, what is the worst that could happen right now?

"You wouldn’t dare," Milan said, her hands snaking as she looked at the door that was still shut.

"You wanna bet on that? You think all those women who come to see your baby parading as reporters are really genuine reporters? Well, some of them are, but surely you didn’t think that the endless numbers were high;

"... because you have the grandchild of Sergei Moskowsky, right? For a woman who’s known for her plots, you sure are a clueless one, Miss Popova," Sergei said, closing the distance between him and Milan.

The woman who had dared to hurt his Solnyshka.

The woman who had made it her mission to give Katya sleepless nights.

"Now, will you sit, or do you want to see just how many people downstairs are real journalists and not assassins?" Sergei asked.

He then pushed a straight strand of hair off Milan’s face and tucked it behind her ear so casually, like this was just a normal conversation.

"Wh... What do you want?" Milan asked.

Sergei smirked.

"You went after my son-in-law," Sergei said boredly, like the urge to claim Katya wasn’t so high right now. He wanted to strangle this woman and make sure she never got the chance to make his Solnyshka feel like shit again.

But Sergei had to remind himself that he was here for his son.

That he hadn’t come this far to annihilate Milan.

Not with the group downstairs, not that he cared that much for it right now. His mind was only filled with Katya Romanov, and the fact that Katya had been in pain that was engineered by the woman his son had chosen to mess with frequently.

"What?" Milan asked like she didn’t know what the alpha was talking about.

Then again, Sergei...

... was Sergei.

"My son’s legal husband? Katya Gamov? The chairman of the Moskowsky Group? Does the name ring a bell? Or do you want me to add the part where you used your Moskowsky card to hire trolls to go after the legitimate son-in-law for this family?" Sergei asked.

Milan couldn’t even hold eye contact with the man anymore.

"I went after your son-in-law?" Milan asked, forcing a humorless laugh.

"Ah, it looks like you need a refresher. Have a seat, child."
