Chapter 1532: Chapter 770: Helping Out on an Uneven Road?
After all, they were about to engage directly with the opponent, and although Lin Beichen was confident in himself, he wasn’t blindly arrogant.
He was well aware that he must never underestimate the enemy.
The Beishi Mercenary Corps weren’t stationed in any town or city within the Golden Triangle.
They chose a suburban area as their base and continued to expand and upgrade it.
Emily told him the route was to first drive to Wood Stone Town, the closest location to the Beishi Mercenary Corps’ base, rest and adjust there briefly, and then head straight to the mercenary base.
Although this route wasn’t a straight line nor the fastest, it was the most comfortable itinerary.
Seeing Emily, a young woman, suggested it, Lin Beichen agreed with her idea.
After all, taking this route wouldn’t slow them down too much, at most, half a day.
But that was assuming they followed the correct route.
Coincidentally, Lin Beichen really did take the wrong road, just a moment ago.
Although their previously discussed plan sounded pretty good, it overlooked an important factor.
That factor was the difference in driving speed between Emily and Lin Beichen.
What might take Emily an hour to drive, would take quite a different amount of time for Lin Beichen.
Lin Beichen only remembered Emily telling him that the next hour would be a straight road with no turns, and that a right turn would appear an hour later.
But in reality, it only took him 30 minutes to reach that right turn.
Even more unfortunately, that location was under road construction, requiring a detour through a nearby tunnel.
Having never been there before, Lin Beichen naturally wasn’t aware of this and continued straight without any intention of turning.
Truly a case of "not turning back until hitting a wall."
As Lin Beichen continued driving, he felt that an hour should have passed, so he slowed down, looking out for any intersections on the right.
Coincidentally, there really was an intersection on the right.
Without thinking twice, Lin Beichen turned directly into it.
As to why he didn’t wake Emily, he found her sleeping soundly and didn’t have the heart to disturb her.
After the right turn, it was still a straight road, so Lin Beichen sped up again.
After driving for over half an hour more, Lin Beichen suddenly saw a cluster of buildings appear in the distance.
"Hmm, is this the Wood Stone Town that Emily mentioned?"
Lin Beichen muttered to himself.
Then, he drove into the place, intending to find a hotel for a rest stop.
As soon as he entered the area, Lin Beichen was surprised by its size and couldn’t understand why it was called a town—it could be rightfully called a city.
At this point, Lin Beichen, being directionally challenged, still hadn’t realized that he had taken the wrong route and wandered into an unfamiliar place.
Lin Beichen arrived at a large hotel called the Freedom Hotel.
The hotel’s luxurious decor was intimidating; if Lin Beichen hadn’t won so much money yesterday, he wouldn’t have dared to rest in such a place.
Lin Beichen slowly parked the car at the hotel entrance, just about to reach over and wake Emily when she unexpectedly opened her eyes drowsily as soon as he stopped the car.
"Where are we?" Emily asked, her voice still carrying a hint of sleepiness.
Lin Beichen casually replied, "We’ve arrived at the Wood Stone Town you mentioned."
"How long did I sleep? We’re here already?" Emily paused her gesture of rubbing her eyes, her face full of disbelief, and then turned to look outside, carefully examining the surroundings.
"Maybe I drove a bit fast," said Lin Beichen, unaware that he had taken the wrong route.
"But as I recall, Wood Stone Town didn’t have such a luxurious hotel," Emily said, with a confused expression in her eyes.
"Where exactly is this?" She was utterly baffled.
This place was territory she had never ventured into before.
"You mean... I might have taken the wrong route?" Lin Beichen suddenly realized and sensed something was amiss.
"I was following your directions—straight on, then a right turn."
Lin Beichen quickly explained.
"Could the road conditions have changed?"
This wasn’t an entirely impossible scenario.
Emily pushed open the car door, got out, and stood to survey the surroundings, muttering, "That’s possible, considering I haven’t been here in a long time either."
The base of the Beishi Mercenary Corps was different from that of the Milo Family; it wasn’t in the city but hidden in a remote suburb.
Suburban areas tend to change the most, so it was understandable that Emily’s information was outdated.
"Do you know exactly where this is?" Lin Beichen asked the most pressing question on his mind, "How do we get to the Beishi Mercenary Corps’ base from here?"
"I’m not sure either, and it’s getting dark soon, making it inconvenient to backtrack now," Emily sighed helplessly.
Hearing Emily’s remark, Lin Beichen added, "Even if we wanted to hurry back before dark, it’s no use."
"Why not?" Emily asked, her face full of puzzlement.
Lin Beichen scratched his head, a bit embarrassed, "Because the car is out of gas."
"We drove just for a day, and the fuel from the last fill is all used up?" Emily grimaced, feeling like it was burning money rather than burning fuel!
"Let’s ask around and see where we are," Lin Beichen suggested.
Then, the two of them got out of the car and walked toward the hotel named Freedom Hotel.
"Welcome!" Two tall women stood on either side of the hotel entrance, their appearances fairly orderly.
