Chapter 378: Chapter 225: Yixia, Don’t Blame Me for Tonight, I’m Going to Sleep in One Bed
Jiang Yixia’s hands paused. She turned to glare at him, her face flushing. "What are you talking about!"
Lu Fan put on an innocent look and spread his hands. "I said I was watching you put the noodles in. What did you *think* I meant? What’s going through that head of yours all day?"
Jiang Yixia ignored him. She dropped the noodles into the pot and stirred them with her chopsticks. Her ears were as red as cooked shrimp, and even her neck began to flush pink.
Lu Fan leaned against the doorframe, watching her work.
The flame on the stove danced, and the water in the pot churned. Steam fogged up the window, shrouding the entire kitchen in a white mist.
In the light, her profile was soft. She had long eyelashes, a straight nose, and her lips were slightly pursed.
"Yixia," he called out suddenly, his voice soft.
"What?"
"You’re really beautiful like this."
Jiang Yixia’s hands stilled again. She didn’t turn around, but the tips of her ears turned an even deeper shade of red.
She pretended not to hear him. She strained the noodles, divided them into two bowls, and sprinkled them with chopped green onions before adding a few drops of sesame oil.
Her movements were a beat slower than usual, as if she were deliberately stalling.
When the noodles were ready, she brought them to the table. Steam rose from the two bowls, where chopped green onions floated on the surface of the broth. The aroma of sesame oil was tantalizing.
Lu Fan sat down and took a bite. It was so hot that he had to suck in a breath, but he still nodded again and again.
"Delicious," he said, taking another huge mouthful. SLURP, SLURP. He ate with obvious enjoyment.
Jiang Yixia sat down across from him, eating in small, delicate bites. She didn’t say anything, but the corners of her mouth curled into a smile she couldn’t quite suppress.
After they finished eating, Lu Fan leaned back in his chair and watched her.
Jiang Yixia gathered the bowls and chopsticks, placed them in the sink, and turned on the faucet to rinse them.
She washed them slowly, one by one. When she was done washing, she rinsed them again. After rinsing, she dried them. She was dawdling, as if waiting for something.
The sound of running water stopped.
She stood at the sink with her back to him, not turning around.
"Are you full?" Jiang Yixia asked.
"I’m full," Lu Fan nodded, then changed the subject. "But my legs are still sore."
Jiang Yixia looked at him and said irritably, "Then what do you want me to do about it? Give you a leg massage?"
Lu Fan chuckled. "Oh, that won’t be necessary. It’s just... it’s getting so late, maybe I should just stay here..."
He deliberately trailed off, watching for Jiang Yixia’s reaction.
"Then go get a hotel," Jiang Yixia shot back.
Lu Fan shook his head, a troubled look on his face. "It’s so late, finding a hotel would be a huge pain. Besides, I have trouble sleeping in strange beds."
Jiang Yixia laughed in exasperation. "Last time you slept like a log on my floor, and now you’re telling me you can’t sleep in a strange bed?"
"That’s because you were nearby, which put my mind at ease," Lu Fan said with an innocent look, shrugging.
Jiang Yixia’s face flushed, and she ignored him.
Lu Fan followed her into the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe. "You see," he continued, "it’s past ten o’clock. It’s dangerous for me to be out this late."
Jiang Yixia turned on the faucet again, keeping her back to him. "Save the act."
"I’ll sleep on the floor, it’s not like it’s the first time. I promise I won’t get in the bed. I’m a dog if I do."
Jiang Yixia stood at the sink, saying nothing.
Seeing that she wasn’t refusing, Lu Fan grew bolder and took a step closer. "If you don’t say anything, I’m going to take that as a yes."
Jiang Yixia turned off the faucet and spun around to face him. Her expression was still stern, but her ears were bright red.
"You can set it up yourself," she said, turning and disappearing into her bedroom.
"You got it," Lu Fan said with a grin.
He skillfully laid out the bedding on the floor, pulling the four corners taut. He placed the pillow at the end nearest the door and laid the blanket out neatly.
"Good night," he said softly.
A few seconds later, a soft reply came from the bedroom.
"Mm, good night."
Just when Jiang Yixia thought Lu Fan would be good and sleep on the floor all night like last time, he started acting up.
’Yixia, you can’t blame me for what happens tonight.’
