Chapter 375: Chapter 225: Yixia, Don’t Blame Me Tonight, I’m Sleeping in the Same Bed

In a VIP room at Donghua Hospital, Pan Lanfang was propped up in bed, her complexion much improved from the night before.

The flowers on the bedside table had been replaced with a fresh bouquet. A nurse had brought them in that morning, saying the dean had specially requested it.

The sun was shining brightly outside, casting a warm glow into the room and tingeing the white blankets a pale gold.

Jiang Guoqiang sat on the nearby sofa, cradling a cup of hot tea. His eyes were fixed on Pan Lanfang’s bed.

He had barely slept the previous night, and his eyelids felt heavy, but he refused to close them, afraid he might miss something.

Jiang Yixia sat by the bed, peeling an apple for Pan Lanfang.

She peeled slowly, unconcerned even when the skin broke off in several pieces. Her mind was clearly elsewhere.

"Mom, how are you feeling today? Does it still hurt?" Jiang Yixia asked softly, handing her the first slice of apple. She had placed a napkin under it, worried the fruit might be too cold for her.

Pan Lanfang took it and bit into it with a crisp CRUNCH. A look of contentment spread across her face. "Much, much better. It doesn’t hurt as much anymore. This hospital is amazing, so much better than any I’ve stayed in before. Look at this room! It’s bigger than our house, and it even has a TV and a sofa. It’s like a hotel."

As she spoke, she pointed at the large TV on the wall, then at the leather sofa nearby, clucking in amazement.

Jiang Guoqiang chimed in from the side, his tone a mixture of pride and awe. "Of course it is! Xiaolu arranged it, so how could it be anything but the best? Did you see the dean last night? He was so polite, and he even came in person. He’s the head of the whole hospital! What kind of patient hasn’t he seen? Yet he made a special trip to our room."

Pan Lanfang, however, explained, "The dean was just being polite. You’re taking it so seriously."

Jiang Guoqiang chuckled twice and said no more, lowering his head to sip his tea. But he couldn’t suppress the grin spreading across his face.

Jiang Yixia didn’t join the conversation. She cut the peeled apple into small pieces and handed them to her mother one by one.

Her movements were slow, as if she were lost in thought.

Just then, the door to the room swung open.

A middle-aged man in a white coat walked in, followed by a retinue of five or six other doctors. It was a grand procession, like a leader making an inspection tour.

His hair was impeccably combed, and the buttons on his white coat were fastened neatly. The ID badge on his chest read, "Dean, Jin Jianguo."

He wore a perfectly measured smile—neither fawning nor distant. His demeanor was flawlessly calibrated.

"Auntie, hello, hello." Dean Jin strode quickly to the bedside and bowed slightly, his voice both gentle and respectful. "I’m the dean of this hospital. I just wanted to come and check on you. Our best orthopedic team held a consultation last night. We’ve done a detailed assessment of your injury. It’s a lumbar compression fracture—not too serious, but it will require a period of bed rest."

"Please rest assured, we will use the very best treatment plan and our top nursing team to ensure you have a swift and full recovery."

While he spoke, the doctors behind him stood silently, holding clipboards, ready to take notes at a moment’s notice.

Pan Lanfang was so startled by the spectacle that she nearly dropped the apple in her hand.

She had only been to a hospital a few times in her life and had certainly never had a dean personally make rounds, let alone with such a large, smiling entourage. It was like relatives visiting for the New Year.

She quickly sat up straighter, not knowing what to do with her hands.

"Oh... I... how can I accept this... This is too much trouble..." She was flustered, her voice weak.

Jiang Guoqiang also stood up, wringing his hands. His mouth opened and closed, but he couldn’t manage to form a complete sentence.

He got nervous just talking to the village chief, let alone the dean of a hospital.

Dean Jin quickly waved his hands, his tone growing even gentler, now tinged with a hint of alarm. "Auntie, please don’t be so formal. Just focus on your recovery. If you need anything at all, please let me know."

"The nurses’ station is staffed 24 hours a day. Just press the call button, and someone will be here within three seconds. If the cafeteria food isn’t to your liking, I’ll have someone cook for you separately. Just say what you’d like to eat—light, nutritious, anything is fine."

Pan Lanfang thanked him profusely. Jiang Guoqiang nodded along, finally managing to choke out, "Thank you, Dean. Thank you, Dean."

Dean Jin then turned to Jiang Yixia and said politely, "Ms. Jiang, President Lu gave special instructions last night. We will do everything in our power for your mother’s treatment. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any requests. Our hospital may not be the best in the province, but our orthopedics department is certainly top-tier."

Jiang Yixia nodded, her voice calm. "Thank you, Dean Jin. We appreciate the trouble."

"No trouble at all, no trouble at all." Dean Jin smiled and waved his hands dismissively. He gave the nurse a few more instructions before leading his retinue out of the room.

Just before he left, he turned back one last time to say, "Rest well, Auntie," and then the door closed softly.

Once the door was shut, the room fell silent.

Pan Lanfang stared at Jiang Yixia, her face a mask of shock. Her mouth was open wide enough to fit an egg. Her voice was strained as she asked, "Honey, who on earth is this Xiaolu? The dean himself came to see us? And he brought so many doctors? The way he was talking, it was like he was reporting to a superior, going on about ’President Lu’s special instructions’ over and over."

Jiang Guoqiang leaned in, his eyes wide, forgetting to even put down his teacup. "Exactly! When he said ’President Lu’s special instructions,’ his tone was like a schoolboy reporting to his teacher. He was practically bowing to the floor."

Jiang Yixia placed the plate of apple slices on the bedside table and sighed with a hint of resignation. "Mom, please don’t worry about it. Just focus on getting better."

But Pan Lanfang was relentless, grabbing her daughter’s hand and refusing to let go. "What do you mean, ’don’t worry about it’? You have to tell me. What’s his background? First the big gold bracelet, then the gym, and now even the dean of the hospital is treating him with so much respect, calling him ’President Lu, President Lu.’ Your mother may not be educated, but I’m not stupid. Can any ordinary person command this kind of treatment?"
