Chapter 352: Chapter 217: Lu Fan Gives a Massive Gold Bracelet to His Mother-in-Law, Shocking the Entire Village
The trip to Suzhou allowed Jiang Silu to completely relax.
Not only did she gather many new ideas for her designs, but she also reset her mood, growing more and more hopeful about the future.
After dropping Jiang Silu back at her school, Lu Fan encouraged her, "Alright, Silu, keep up the good work. Dad believes in you."
Jiang Silu nodded happily. "Mhm, I will!"
She waved and then walked into the dormitory courtyard.
Watching his daughter, with whom his relationship was steadily improving, Lu Fan felt a sense of satisfaction.
Then he turned to Chen He. "Alright, Chen He, let’s head back. Get some good rest for a day or two."
"Yes, Boss!"
Meanwhile, evening was falling over Qingshan Village, the sky gradually darkening.
Pan Lanfang sat in the courtyard, clutching her phone, staring at the two words "My Girl" in her contacts list.
She wanted to call Jiang Yixia and ask her to come back, but she didn’t know what excuse to use.
Her last attempt at faking an illness had been seen through. If she tried it again, that girl would definitely get angry.
She sighed and put her phone down.
Jiang Guoqiang came out of the house. Seeing her expression, he asked, "Haven’t called yet?"
Pan Lanfang shook her head, her tone laced with helplessness. "I don’t know what to say. She still remembers how I tricked her into coming back for a blind date last time. If I say I’m sick again, she definitely won’t believe me."
"Then don’t trick her. Just tell her the truth," Jiang Guoqiang suggested after a moment of thought. "Say you miss her and ask her to come stay for a couple of days."
Pan Lanfang shot him a look. "Tell her the truth? As if she’d come back then. Your daughter is too smart for that. She’d know for sure that we want to set her up with Xiaolu."
Just as they were talking, Pan Lanfang’s phone suddenly rang.
She picked it up and saw a message from her niece, Liu Yan.
Liu Yan: [Auntie, I’m getting married the day after tomorrow! You and Uncle have to come!]
Pan Lanfang froze for a second, only then remembering this.
She quickly handed the phone to Jiang Guoqiang. "Old man, look, Liu Yan is getting married. My sister mentioned it once before, but I didn’t expect them to set a date so soon."
Jiang Guoqiang took it and glanced at the screen, a smile spreading across his face. "That kid is finally getting married. The day after tomorrow must be an auspicious day, otherwise they wouldn’t be in such a rush."
Pan Lanfang quickly replied: [Congratulations! Your auntie will definitely be there.]
Liu Yan: [Auntie, can you tell Sister Yixia for me? Ask her to come to the wedding banquet too. I haven’t seen her in ages, I really miss her.]
Pan Lanfang’s eyes lit up as she read the message.
’This is a godsend!’ she thought. She had just been worrying about finding an excuse to call her daughter back.
She quickly replied: [Okay, okay, I’ll tell her right away.]
After sending the message, she immediately found Jiang Yixia’s number and dialed.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
"Mom?" Jiang Yixia’s voice came through, tinged with confusion.
Pan Lanfang said cheerfully, "Honey, your cousin Liu Yan is getting married. The banquet is the day after tomorrow. Are you coming back for it?"
Jiang Yixia was taken aback for a moment, a hint of pleasant surprise in her voice. "Liu Yan’s getting married? So soon? Didn’t she just graduate two years ago?"
"Well, she met the right person," Pan Lanfang replied. "The guy owns a restaurant in the city, he’s well-off. Your uncle is thrilled, bragging about it to everyone."
"That’s great. That girl Liu Yan is lucky. Alright, I’ll come back the day after tomorrow. I’d love to see the bride," Jiang Yixia said with a laugh.
"Then stay for a couple of days. Mom will make you your favorite food," Pan Lanfang seized the opportunity to add.
Jiang Yixia didn’t think much of it and agreed, "Okay, I’ll stay for a couple of days."
After hanging up, a wide smile blossomed on Pan Lanfang’s face.
Jiang Guoqiang, standing nearby, asked, "She agreed?"
"She did, and she said she’ll stay for two days," Pan Lanfang said smugly.
Jiang Guoqiang smiled too, but then he asked, "So... should we ask Xiaolu to come as well?"
Pan Lanfang paused. After a moment’s thought, she decided it was a great idea. "Yes! Why wouldn’t we? It’s a perfect chance to show all the relatives what a great boyfriend our Yixia has."
As she spoke, she picked up her phone again and sent a message to Lu Fan.
Pan Lanfang: [Xiaolu, are you free the day after tomorrow? My niece is getting married, and I’d like to invite you to the wedding banquet.]
Lu Fan: [I’m free, Auntie. I’ll definitely be there.]
Reading his reply, Pan Lanfang grew even happier.
She stood up, excited. "Old man, let’s go to town tomorrow to buy some nice ingredients. We need to prepare properly for the day after tomorrow."
Jiang Guoqiang nodded and smiled along with her.
...
「Two days later.」
Xingning Village, about five kilometers from Qingshan Village, was bustling with excitement early in the morning.
Liu Yan’s house was at the eastern end of the village. A red inflatable arch stood at the entrance, and the ground was littered with the remnants of firecrackers.
About ten round tables were set up in the courtyard, where relatives sat in small groups chatting. Children ran around, creating a boisterous scene.
Pan Lanfang and Jiang Guoqiang arrived early.
Pan Lanfang was wearing a new dark red jacket, her hair neatly combed.
Jiang Guoqiang had also changed into a clean set of clothes and looked much more refreshed.
Liu Yan’s mother, who was also Jiang Yixia’s aunt, was standing at the entrance greeting guests.
She wore a bright purple qipao, her hair permed into tight curls. With gold earrings, a jade bracelet on her wrist, her entire demeanor screamed, "We’re hosting a wedding!"
Seeing Pan Lanfang and Jiang Guoqiang arrive, the aunt greeted them with a smile, her tone tinged with a hint of showing off. "Sis, you’re here! Come on in and have a seat."
"Congratulations, congratulations! Where’s Liu Yan? Let me see the bride," Pan Lanfang asked with a smile.
The aunt pointed toward the house and explained, "She’s inside doing her makeup. She’ll be out in a bit. You two have a seat and drink some tea first."
