Chapter 330: Chapter 209: Are These All Mine? Jiang Sifan is Moved
Old Luo showed Jiang Sifan and Wen Wan to their seats in the living room, then turned and gave a few instructions.
A few moments later, several staff members in matching uniforms walked in carrying trays laden with exquisite pastries and fruit.
There were pastries shaped like little animals, beautifully cut fruit, and a few small plates of unidentifiable snacks.
Jiang Sifan stared at the pastries, momentarily stunned.
The pastries were so exquisite they looked like works of art; he couldn’t bring himself to take a bite.
Wen Wan was also a bit stiff. She sat on the sofa with her hands on her knees and her back ramrod straight, like a schoolgirl in class.
Old Luo noticed Wen Wan’s tension and asked with a smile, "Miss Wen, what would you like to drink? We have coffee, tea, juice, and a variety of other beverages."
Wen Wan quickly shook her head and said quietly, "Please don’t go to any trouble. I’ll just have water."
"Please, Miss Wen, make yourself at home," Old Luo said cheerfully. "How about this? I’ll have someone make you a milk tea. Our chef’s is especially good—the young miss loves it too."
Wen Wan glanced at Jiang Sifan, unsure of what to do.
Jiang Sifan nodded at her. "Go ahead and try it."
Only then did Wen Wan turn to Old Luo and say, "Well... thank you, then. I appreciate it."
Old Luo then turned to Jiang Sifan and asked with a smile, "Young Master, what would you like to drink?"
Jiang Sifan, however, was very casual about it. "I’ll have a milk tea, too," he said directly.
But a moment later, he asked awkwardly, "By the way, could you just call me by my name? I’m not really used to this ’Young Master’ title."
"Young Master, calling you by your name directly would be against the rules of master and servant," Old Luo replied.
Seeing this, Jiang Sifan had no choice but to let it go.
Old Luo chuckled cheerfully and turned to give the order.
Jiang Sifan noticed that Old Luo was speaking into a walkie-talkie.
Only then did he realize that in this manor, there was even a chef who specialized in drinks.
He couldn’t help but ask, "Steward Luo, you... you have a chef who specializes in drinks?"
Old Luo nodded and explained, "Yes, the division of labor here is quite specific. We have a chef for drinks, a chef for pastries, a chef for Cantonese cuisine, and a chef for Huaiyang cuisine. The boss entertains frequently and often has guests over for dinner, so we have a large kitchen staff."
Jiang Sifan listened, marveling internally.
’A dedicated chef for drinks, a dedicated chef for pastries, a dedicated chef for Cantonese cuisine...’
’How much must all this cost?’
He thought about his meals at the school cafeteria, where ten yuan was enough to fill him up.
’And here, they had that many different kinds of chefs alone.’
Wen Wan was also listening with a dumbfounded expression. She asked in a small voice, "Then... then how many chefs do you have here in total?"
"The kitchen team is about twenty or so people. Including the assistants, it’s more than thirty," Old Luo replied after a moment of thought.
Wen Wan was too shocked to speak.
Jiang Sifan fell silent as well.
’Over twenty chefs, just to cook for this one family?’
’He suddenly felt that he knew far too little about this father of his.’
Before long, two people dressed in white chef’s uniforms walked in, carrying two glasses of milk tea.
The milk tea was served in clear glasses, with fine beads of condensation clinging to the sides.
You could see the distinct layers inside: a dark brown tea base at the bottom and a creamy white milk foam on top, sprinkled with golden, crispy flakes.
"Here you are, Young Master."
"Miss Wen."
Old Luo handed them each a glass.
Wen Wan accepted the drink respectfully. "Thank you," she said softly.
She immediately took a small sip.
In that instant, her eyes lit up.
Seeing her expression, Jiang Sifan also lifted his glass and took a sip.
As he drank, he first tasted the dense, slightly salty milk foam, followed by the fragrant, lightly sweet tea base.
The two flavors blended perfectly in his mouth. It was just right, not at all cloying.
Jiang Sifan couldn’t resist taking another sip.
He looked at Old Luo, his tone laced with surprise. "This milk tea is amazing. I’ve never had anything this good."
Old Luo’s face filled with pleased satisfaction. "I’m glad you like it, Young Master," he beamed. "It’s our chef’s own special recipe; you can’t get it anywhere else. If you like it, come visit more often. We can make it for you anytime."
Hearing this, Jiang Sifan was suddenly struck by a complex mix of feelings.
’Come visit more often...’
He glanced at the milk tea in his hand, then at the luxurious decor surrounding him, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words.
Old Luo noticed his restraint and said with a smile, "Young Master, don’t be so formal. This is your home, too. You can do as you please; there’s no need to stand on ceremony."
Jiang Sifan nodded, but he still couldn’t bring himself to relax.
Old Luo sat down beside him and started making small talk.
"Young Master, how is the food at your school?" Old Luo asked.
"I eat in the cafeteria. It’s alright."
Old Luo nodded. "Do you have any favorite dishes?" he asked.
"Everything’s fine. I’m not a picky eater."
Old Luo smiled. "It’s good that you’re not a picky eater. Still, our Cantonese chef is exceptionally skilled. You should try his food later. Braised Goose Feet in Abalone Sauce, Typhoon Shelter Crab, Steamed Leopard Coral Grouper... those are all his signature dishes."
Jiang Sifan froze for a second, then quickly waved his hands in refusal. "Oh, no, no. I’ll be leaving in a little while. Please don’t go to any trouble."
"You’re already here, you should at least stay for dinner before you go," Old Luo urged. "The boss may not be here, but it’s a rare occasion for you to visit. You have to try a home-cooked meal."
"Really, there’s no need. I just came to take a look, and then I’ll be on my way," Jiang Sifan insisted, shaking his head.
Old Luo looked at him, then suddenly lowered his voice and said with a conspiratorial smile, "Young Master, the boss isn’t here anyway. You don’t have to be so formal. Just treat this as your own home and do as you please."
