Chaos Devourer System: My Classless Ascension

Chapter 514: Chapter 512:WAR.
The rest of the auction went on as one would expect.
The rest of the items brought out by Xue Bing weren’t as impressive as the rings from the opening and hadn’t interested any of the other guests on the top floor, as only those lower had bothered to bid on them, but that wasn’t any of my concern.
If I liked what I saw, I was bidding for it, regardless of its actual functionality or usefulness; I was getting it.
The little one seemed to have zoned in as well, as we both deliberated for approximately point two seconds before spending Xuan’s money on anything that caught our fancy.
I had thought myself a spendthrift, but Lucien had opened my eyes today.
The kid’s bids were so outrageously high that it got to a point where, whenever the other bidders heard the legendary baby voice, they just stopped bidding altogether, since the kid seemed to have an inexhaustible source of wealth—if only they knew.
"Brother Xuan. Brother Xuan. Snap out of it!" Su Yin shook the pale body of Xuan furiously, as the man had begun muttering things about seeing the pearly immortal gates or whatever nonsense he was on about.
The room was littered with treasures we’d gotten from the auction, as both me and Lucien sat on the floor, face to face, in serious deliberation.
"Big brother! The competition is getting hard. We lost some of the goodies."
"Don’t worry, little man, I’m sure we’ll get them back." I ruffled his hair. "We wouldn’t have lost anything if SOMEBODY wasn’t such a drama emperor." I shot Xuan a disdainful glare, as the man couldn’t even handle a few billion worth of spirit stones.
"Humph! So much for an inexhaustible source of wealth; I’m disappointed."
"Ack!! Oh, my ancestors are calling my name. Goodbye bleak world."
"Ahhh... Brother Xuan! Brother Xuan!!!" Su Yin panicked, shaking the man vigorously as she fought a tug-of-war with the man’s ancestors for his life.
"No, but Dante, what exactly do you even need all these things for?" Sana’s voice pulled my attention from the broke drama emperor as I turned towards her.
"Well, my dear, I need them for their uses; they’re bound to make life a lot easier."
"Oh really? Then what does this do?" She tossed me a device in the shape of a crescent moon.
"Hmmm? The hell is this? How did it get here?"
"You bought it in the last bid that just ended!"
"Ehhh? Me? Surely not. This thing is ugly! Must’ve been Lucien."
"Ahh! No!!! Big brother! Lucien is innocent! It’s big brother that said it would look cool as a flying blade, whatever that meant."
"Ehh? Did I?" I really couldn’t remember.
"Well, whatever, I guess."
""""Haaa..."""" I ignored the collective rueful sighs they gave as I turned to the screen showing the image of a very vibrant Xue Bing.
The woman seemed to have aged backwards by a few thousand years, as this day must’ve been one of, if not the most fruitful auctions her Spirit Blossom Court had ever held.
"Heh! You’re welcome, humph!"
"Alright everyone, the moment you’ve all waited so patiently for has arrived." Her words successfully got my attention as I sat straight.
"We have arrived at the final item to be auctioned off today, and it’s..." She reached for the red drape that had now become the center of everyone’s attention as she pulled it off, "a genuine divine beast’s egg."
A silence fell upon the entire tower as I could feel multiple senses reach out towards the egg down below.
Many, if not all, of the gathered attendees today were curious to know if it was truly a divine beast egg.
They knew of the war going on within the Phoenix-Dragoverse; any power capable of even hearing of the news should be one well aware of the happenings in the wider cosmos, but the sheer difficulty associated with even coming into contact with a divine beast, much less something as precious as a divine beast’s egg?
Something that, if nurtured properly, promised a genuine divine beast as a companion?
Or if you were a Calderan, something that promised a genuine divine beast bloodline to assimilate? And if you were from the High Planar Galaxies, a genuine divine-grade martial spirit?
It didn’t matter who you were. Where you came from. The appeal of a divine beast was all the same.
So they truly wanted to know, and once their senses did touch the egg,
"It’s real." Xuan, who had snapped out of his delirium upon hearing about the divine beast egg, muttered with a solemn face.
"Of course it’s real. You needed to actually reach out to the egg to know that? Can’t you see?" I pointed at the air around the egg.
It was subtle, almost impossible to see with the naked eye, but the laws around the immediate vicinity of the egg were differing from whatever else was still within that enclosure.
That alone spoke volumes about the authenticity of the egg.
"Now, as you all must already know, the one who entrusted this egg to my custody had explicitly said he didn’t need any money; all he required were treasures of equal importance."
"And what, pray tell , do you believe is of equal importance to a divine beast’s egg?" A voice from the topmost floor asked the question on most people’s minds.
"I cannot say for sure, as the man did not give any specific instructions. His words were merely, ’Do not seek out money for this egg; all I need are treasures, treasures worth the effort I had put into acquiring this thing.’ His exact words, not mine."
Silence fell within the tower once again as everyone quietly deliberated on what those words could truly mean.
For someone to have been powerful enough to actually swipe a divine beast’s egg, especially from a place as chaotic as the Phoenix-Dragoverse was right now, there was no doubt he was a supreme being.
The words of such a being weren’t ones that they could take so casually and present subpar treasures.
Yet it was this same explanation that gave those on the lower floors the hope that maybe, just maybe, they had the thing the supreme expert was looking for, as many probably believed that the man was hidden somewhere watching the ongoing event.
"Alright, but before we begin, may I ask if you know of this supreme being’s identity,
Lest we be disrespectful and incur his ire." Another voice from the top floor asked.
"I know not who he is. He merely appeared within our court’s headquarters and demanded to see me. It wasn’t until after our conversation on how the events should proceed that he left me with the message I just told you," Xue Bing answered. "Oh, and he also said I should let you guys know, WAR is inevitable."
The rest of the tower tried to interpret those words into some philosophical wisdom from a powerhouse they had never met before, and yet the moment I heard that statement, only one thought came to mind,
"Old man?"
