Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Not Worth Fearing

Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, the whole morning had passed—but there was no movement at all?

That shouldn’t be. Victory requires taking and occupying the enemy’s building. If Team Red wants to win, they have to act. Yet for so long, not a single shadow has appeared...

Renee Morgan and Jay Monroe exchanged a glance, took out their communicators, and immediately reported to the commander.

No activity is still a kind of activity.

Team Red holding back might be their tactical choice. Very likely, they’re waiting for Team Blue to advance, setting the perfect trap.

They couldn’t afford to let their guard down.

The commander had also anticipated this, and immediately ordered: "Renee Morgan, continue observing enemy movement. Jay Monroe, head out quickly to support the frontline assault team."

"Understood!" Jay Monroe responded loudly, stood up with his sniper rifle, turned back toward Renee Morgan, tapped his forehead with a stylish gesture, and sent her a flirtatious look: "Renee, your brother’s heading out for a headshot and some points. Wait for my good news."

Renee Morgan looked at the smug face of Jay Monroe, turned her gaze aside, and continued to focus on the high-powered scope in her hands.

Jay Monroe eagerly headed downstairs.

With Jay Monroe gone, Renee Morgan kept watch on both water routes, finally finding a way to manage—but holding one position for so long was getting painful.

Renee Morgan remembered that dream again. After Wendy Aldridge schemed against her and got her blacklisted on the whole internet, her acting career became tough. At one point, when finances were tight, she even worked as a stuntwoman for a famous actress—taking hits to her back, rolling off rooftops, rib bones broken, and nobody cared to send her to a doctor. As if her life was worth nothing.

Without fame, you’re trampled underfoot; refuse to give up, and you must fight through endless obstacles. That law never changes.

In the dream, she simply refused to admit defeat—falling over again and again, and getting up every time.

Given a second chance, Renee wouldn’t back down again.

Renee quickly adjusted her breathing, gripped her sniper rifle tighter, her gaze suddenly becoming razor-sharp as she swept the routes through her scope.

"Bang!" In the exact instant gunfire sounded in her earpiece, Renee’s sniper rifle seemed to echo the shot, making her whole body tremble.

Renee couldn’t help reaching out to touch her earpiece. The next moment, a mechanical voice came through: "Team Blue sniper Jay Monroe, earns one point." ℴ

Renee raised her eyebrows—her partner scored that fast?

She didn’t know that the same voice echoed in the conference hall, in everyone’s earpieces, making all the listeners shudder.

Viewers in the livestream also heard it—nobody expected a headshot with points announced like that.

This announcement, unsurprisingly, made everyone notice Jay Monroe.

Jay Monroe hadn’t expected the points call either. Staring at the bodies ahead, he suppressed his urge for more, and dashed into the nearby forest.

Meanwhile, Team Red’s conference hall had patched in their sniper’s feed: "The enemy has deployed a sniper; it’s Jay Monroe."

After a few moments of silence, a voice came through.

Team Red sniper: "I’ve already locked onto his location, but there’s still another sniper who hasn’t appeared yet."

Their plan was to take out Team Blue’s two snipers first.

Team Red commander: "How good is Jay Monroe?"

Team Red sniper replied: "Very strong."

The commander didn’t reply, but a calm voice came through again: "Only second to me."

Team Red commander: "..." Are young people always this confident now?

The commander paused for a long time, then spoke in a low voice: "Keep eyes on Jay Monroe. He’s too big a threat. Take him out first."

Like he was used to silence, the other side hesitated briefly before speaking: "Aren’t we going to wait for the other sniper to show?"

When planning their tactics, everyone agreed—the snipers posed the greatest threat in a team. Not just because of their skill, but their combat power gave them the strongest role; after all, they’re the core figures.

Deal with the hidden snipers, and then encircle and clear out the remaining units—the chances of winning go way up.

Now, Jay Monroe’s location is confirmed, but the other sniper hasn’t surfaced.

Team Red commander: "The other sniper won’t be stronger than Jay Monroe. Once we’ve dealt with Jay, the remaining one is nothing to worry about."

Jay Monroe’s name might not be as renowned as some other players: those Olympic Champions, World Champions, prodigies... But anyone who’s ever floated around the underworld of Freyos or the Astorian Region knows his codename well—Wolfhead.

Simply put, the world only sees the stars standing under the spotlight, shining in every field, but knows nothing about the experts lurking in the shadows.

Nothing to worry about?

The other side was silent. After a while, came a reply: "Understood!"

Jay Monroe hid in the forest to lay low, and several times considered going out, but felt someone watching him. He knew exactly what was happening—he’d been targeted.

The enemy is hidden, while he’s exposed. Jay Monroe dared not make a move; he reported his situation to the commander.

The commander understood the importance of snipers and was thinking who to send to help Jay Monroe out.

Usually, in this scenario, you’d send the other sniper. Whoever’s got eyes on Jay Monroe in the dark is certainly the enemy sniper. Send the assault team and you risk heavy losses—only a sniper can duel a sniper.

But Team Blue’s commander remembered that the other sniper was a young woman. Letting her face the enemy sniper—he worried not only about losing Jay Monroe but both snipers altogether.

The Blue Team commander quickly decided: sent a small group of assault members to help Jay Monroe.

Renee Morgan had no clue about these stormy changes, meticulously keeping watch along the route, instantly reporting any slightest disturbance.

"Bang bang bang bang!" Four shots rang out in a row—just blanks, but still enough to make anyone’s heart race.

Renee pressed her earpiece, listening carefully.

Sure enough, she soon heard a mechanical voice: "Team Red sniper Hugh, earns four points!"

Four shots, four headshots—terrifying.

The Blue Team commander knew snipers were powerful, but he hadn’t expected this level. The assault team of eight men had just lost half in an instant.

Viewers already knew from Jay’s broadcast that Hugh was also competing, but hadn’t expected him to be Team Red’s sniper.

And clearly, incredibly skilled?

Four points in one go—awesome!

In the livestream, after the mechanical voice sounded, the leaderboard was updated.

It used to only show Jay Monroe’s name, but now Hugh’s appeared, pushing Jay down from first place and taking the top spot, marked with headshot points: 4, English: four.

Jay Monroe heard Hugh’s name, and his expression darkened.
