Chapter 81: Slapped in the Face
Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Slapped in the Face
Renee Morgan dragged a bamboo nearly ten meters long and poked it into the mud pit.
Sean had no idea what she wanted to do, reached out to her, and said simply, "Teach me what to do."
Renee didn’t mind, handed the bamboo pole to him, and told him to poke toward the other side of the mud pit; she wanted to find out where the mud pit ended.
Taylor had no clue the bamboo was meant for this, gave Renee a thumbs up, with clumsy Chinese: "Renee, smart!"
Renee tugged at her lips, "Thanks!"
The bamboo pole in Sean’s hand finally stopped at a certain spot; he couldn’t poke through, so the mud pit apparently stopped there.
Renee let him hold the bamboo and mark a line between the mud and ground, making a note.
Sean stayed silent and did everything exactly as told.
Once it was all done, Sean looked at Renee again, waiting for her instructions.
Renee told him to dump out the things in his bag; her bag held a broken rope she was worried about losing.
Sean didn’t hesitate at all, took out his backpack and emptied everything, then handed the bag to Renee.
The livestream CP fans were getting excited:
[Miles Yates is out, give way for Sean, he’s so obedient, his Combat Power is off the charts, teaming up with Renee—even though it’s still a strong-woman-and-weaker-man pairing, but I totally ship you.]
[Sean is over 1.8 meters tall, handsome facial features, ruthless and not chatty, key thing is he listens, Renee could definitely take him into her harem.]
[Sean has got to be a stone-hearted warm guy; Renee says hit, he hits. I’ll bet a bag of spicy chips he’s already fallen for her.]
[...]
Renee didn’t think much of it, took Sean’s bag, handed hers over for him to keep, then hesitated and took out her military-grade knife, clipping it to her belt.
Since they got here, they’d been wearing the uniforms issued by the base; the belt had a hidden clasp for a dagger, which was pretty handy.
Renee finished all that, finally looked at Sean and Taylor and said, "I’ll go over first and take a look. You two wait here."
Sean frowned, stayed silent, his eyes overflowing with worry as he looked at her.
Taylor: "Why can’t I go over?"
Renee glanced at his giant height, then at the bamboo pole she was holding, and said casually, "I’m worried the bamboo can’t handle your weight and you’ll fall into the mud pit."
Taylor: "..."
Isn’t his physique perfect? Why was she so picky?
Taylor was pretty bummed.
Renee saw him gesturing endlessly and simply handed him the bamboo pole: "Or you try going from the side; if the bamboo holds, you can go."
Pole-vaulting had its tricks. With Taylor’s size, if he knew the technique, maybe he really could get across.
But Taylor held the bamboo, spent ages waving it, then asked how to use it; forget technique, he probably hadn’t even tried before.
Renee kept a straight face and told him to stand the bamboo vertical, climb up along it, and when it started to tip, jump off as far as possible.
Taylor, totally clueless, stood up the bamboo and asked, "How do I climb?"
Renee: "Just climb up along the bamboo."
Taylor’s confused face copied her, but didn’t even get up; as soon as he stepped on, he slipped and nearly split his butt.
Renee felt relieved; at least Taylor wouldn’t try to cross the mud pit, she wouldn’t have to rescue anybody.
Taylor: "..."
The livestream viewers instantly got Renee’s disdain and let out merciless laughter.
[Hahahaha... Taylor: Am I actually a burden?]
[The Boxing King always dissed others, but now teamed up with Renee, he’s actually the one being dissed.]
[Did you check the trending topics overseas? It’s still up there: #EvenTheBoxingKingIsARookieInFrontOfRenee# LOL, The Boxing King never thought there’d be a woman in this world who could make him a sidekick.]
[Whoa, I just checked, Renee is super popular, basically taking over the top trending spots overseas.]
[Makes sense, foreigners are obsessed with Chinese martial arts—so many kung fu stars in China, their international status is really high.]
[...She seems to be trending in the mainland too, all the headlines are about her...crazy! No idea how long she’ll stay popular, but she’s honestly the most famous female celebrity I’ve seen so far. No contest.]
If before Taylor was mostly curious about Renee, by now he had to admit—Renee was really impressive, the most impressive person he’d ever seen.
He looked at Renee with admiration, slapped Sean’s shoulder with his bear paw, and muttered in English: "Bro, you’re really lucky!"
The comment came out of nowhere, but everyone knew what he meant—he meant lucky to team up with Renee.
Sean was shoved so hard he nearly lost his balance, glaring at Taylor, totally helpless.
That’s bullying people with height, isn’t it?
Taylor burst out laughing, balance restored.
Renee took out her water bottle and drank a sip, then rubbed her rumbling stomach. Looking at the apple tree across the bank, she smiled—soon, she wouldn’t have to suffer like this.
Once everything was ready, Renee shouldered her backpack, picked a bamboo pole, stood in place, and had Sean help steady the pole.
Sean had no idea what she was planning, but obediently did as told.
Taylor stared wide-eyed, like a giant gorilla squatting on the ground, hands propping his chin, watching Renee seriously, full of anticipation.
Renee backed up until she reached the right distance, then started running, jumped onto the bamboo pole, climbed up with lightning speed, and, as the pole tilted toward the opposite bank, used the momentum to leap several meters, landing solidly on a patch without mud.
The move was fluid and flawless!
Renee promptly took back the bamboo pole.
Taylor and Sean were both awestruck by Renee’s move!
Taylor stared at Sean in shock, "Are you sure she’s not..."
He gestured for ages, then finally spat out, "Ancient Martial Hermit expert!"
That was a name he’d only heard in web novels...
Sean glanced at him and explained, "She’s a professional actress, but her family’s a Martial Arts Clan—she learned martial arts since she was a kid."
Taylor suddenly realized, blurted out, "Chinese kung fu?"
Damn! No wonder things seemed off—it was this.
Renee knows Chinese kung fu, so all her actions before totally make sense.
But he really never expected the person besting him at every turn would be Chinese kung fu.
Before this, to him, Chinese people were always the stereotype of short and skinny, never imagined that one day he’d get rescued several times by a Chinese girl—and in front of her, he felt weak and useless.
It’s like when the group you always looked down on suddenly shows their true strength—the feeling is pure shock and face-slapping numbness, impossible to shake off.
Sean stayed quiet; he understood exactly what Taylor was thinking.
