Ni Mengxue smiled faintly. "Now this is getting interesting."

She calmly looked at Shu Tian before saying, "How about this? As long as you commit your research to Fair Shallow Land with me, I won’t harm you."

Shu Tian narrowed his eyes and gave a mocking laugh, as though he had just proven something.

"See? You were pretending all along!"

Ni Mengxue returned his mocking smile.

Her words began echoing in his mind.

"Do you truly think the people here, or even those outside this base, will value your talent? No one will, Shu Tian. You need to understand this harsh truth. No one can see your current value. Only someone who understands potential can recognize it, and I’m one of those people."

She paused before continuing, "I’m recruiting you. I promise that once you come to Fair Shallow Land, you’ll gain the recognition and support you want."

Shu Tian frowned.

"I just noticed that you were talking to that bulky man about relocating the population of the slums to Fair Shallow Land. Do you have some kind of connection with Fair Shallow Land?"

He suddenly paused.

Ni Mengxue’s eyes narrowed. ’Did he figure it out?’

But the next second, Shu Tian continued, "Don’t tell me you’ve somehow gained the favor of a base leader. Ni Mengxue, I must say, you have quite a bit of talent."

Ni Mengxue stared at him for a moment before calmly smiling. "Melanie must be furious with you, right?"

Shu Tian’s expression cooled. "How did you know?"

Ni Mengxue shrugged. "With your IQ, I highly doubt you’d be able to maintain a good relationship."

Shu Tian’s entire face turned red. He pointed at her furiously. "If it weren’t for you, I would’ve ended up with Su Yao!"

Ni Mengxue paused. ’Now this is new.’

"When did I stop you from pursuing Su Yao? Oh, wait. You once liked Su Yao?"

Shu Tian lowered his gaze and stammered, "Who doesn’t? Su Yao is like a gentle breeze, an angel on earth, a fairy descending from heaven..."

Ni Mengxue smiled faintly. "Keep praising her like that, and she might actually appear in the form of an angel and take you away with her."

Shu Tian glared at her. "Don’t you dare be sarcastic about my Yao! She’s the best!"

Ni Mengxue gave a faint nod before turning toward one of the nearby walls.

Then she raised her voice.

"Did you hear that? I’m not the one who seduced your guy. He’s been in love with someone else all along. I highly doubt his current feelings are even stable."

Shu Tian’s expression changed.

Melanie, who had been hiding behind the wall, slowly stepped out with tears in her eyes. She glared at Shu Tian.

Shu Tian felt like vomiting blood. Then he turned toward Ni Mengxue with an accusing glare.

"You’ve ruined everything for me again! How can you be so cruel?"

Ni Mengxue laughed.

"Let me tell you something. I did what was right. You harbor feelings for another woman, yet you didn’t stop my friend from going on dates with you. Isn’t that deceiving her?"

At this point, Ni Mengxue had completely forgotten about the mission she had been given.

’Sure, recruiting this guy is tempting, but if he enters my base and causes trouble later, it’ll cost me far more than he’s worth.’

Shu Tian quickly turned toward Melanie.

"Melanie, don’t listen to her! I was talking about Su Yao because she was my past crush. I swear I don’t have any feelings for her anymore. Besides, she already has more than twenty husbands. Even if I gained her favor, I would never be someone she’d pay attention to. How could I still harbor feelings for her?"

He hurried after Melanie. "Melanie, please! Give me one chance!"

Melanie stomped away without looking back.

Ni Mengxue shook her head and stared at the empty air in front of her.

"By what logic are you even assigning me missions at this point? I think it would be better if you stopped assigning me any."

The next second, a mission appeared before her.

[Mission: Leave the Zombie Repulsion Card, medicine, and food 100 kilometers away from Silent Knight Base at the designated location. The exact location will be provided separately.]

[Reward: 2 Zombie Repulsion Cards and 2,000 kilograms of rice.]

Ni Mengxue blinked, amusement flickering in them. ’What kind of strange mission is this?’

Still, she accepted it without hesitation.

After returning to the hotel, Ni Mengxue immediately checked on everyone.

Fortunately, their fevers had already broken, and their conditions had stabilized. Only then did she finally relax.

By the third day, everyone had recovered enough to leave.

Ni Mengxue first recorded the abilities of those who had awakened superpowers.

However, she was surprised to discover that nine out of ten people hadn’t awakened any powers at all.

This left her confused. The only good thing was that their physical strength had increased.

They couldn’t be considered superhuman, but they were definitely stronger than ordinary humans.

’Could my theory have been wrong all along?’

Ni Mengxue couldn’t help wondering.

To relocate the slum population, she divided everyone into several batches.

The first batch consisted of the strongest members of the convoy, mainly Lu Yucai’s subordinates who had already awakened superpowers and possessed considerably enhanced physical strength.

They would lead the other groups and escort the population in batches.

Ni Mengxue had ten additional vehicles stored in her space, so those vehicles were used to transport the people.

As for Ni Mengxue herself, she would be responsible for clearing the road ahead and dealing with any zombies or mutated creatures they encountered along the way.

The convoy was arranged in several sections.

At the front were a few of Lu Yucai’s subordinates, following behind the RV. In the middle were the relocated residents, packed into trucks and larger transport vehicles. Another group of Lu Yucai’s subordinates followed behind them to protect the convoy from attacks from the rear.

Along the way, they encountered a few groups of zombies, but nothing particularly troublesome.

However, on the second evening, a different problem appeared.
