CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 89: BRIDGING THE VEIL

Inside the spectral expanse of the Crown Core, the atmosphere grew suffocatingly dense, heavy with the crushing weight of an encroaching singularity.

The physical Arachne warrior was pinned to the obsidian floor inside its freshly ignited circle, its heavy legs trembling as its primitive beast instincts registered the sheer impossibility of its surroundings. But it was not the only entity paralyzed by terror.

From inside their respective rune boundaries, both the Flame Demon and the spiritual phantom of the Arachne Princess shrank back, their gaze fixed tightly on the center of the domain.

High above them, Caius's newly transformed core no longer remained a simple internal mana organ.

The polished, light-absorbing obsidian sphere began to sink through the spiritual atmosphere of his soul sea. Yet it was not merely descending, for it was tearing. The razor-sharp edge of the core’s dense intent began to cut through the delicate fabric separating the spirit realm from physical reality. Hairline fissures of pitch-black light bled outward from the sphere, bridging the gap between the material world and the void of his soul.

Real-time experimentation.

He was performing spatial surgery on the very laws of existence, casually testing concepts that high mages spent centuries debating in ancient texts, and he was doing it on a whim in the quiet of a single evening.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

The Flame Demon’s crimson embers flickered erratically, its fiery form compressing into a tight, defensive mass. What is this creature? the demon’s chaotic mind screamed into the dark. An ancient Lich whose spirit was sealed inside a mortal vessel? A primordial spatial terror reborn in human flesh?

No fourteen-year-old ward could possess this level of ruthless, clinical precision. The sheer speed of his adaptation defied all known logic of the subterranean realm. They could not comprehend the nature of the mind behind those calm, cold eyes.

And then, their worst nightmare manifested.

Caius’s spectral projection turned slowly mid-air. He looked down upon the trapped entities, his eyes no longer their usual pale grey, but glowing with a faint, razored glint of pure obsidian light.

His gaze passed over the newly captured physical Arachne warrior, then slowly drifted toward the two older prisoners.

The Arachne Princess backed against the rear edge of her circle, her multifaceted spiritual eyes dilating in unadulterated dread as she read the silent calculation written across Caius’s face. He wasn't just holding them as trophies anymore. He had mastered spatial compression, created a liquid ink gateway, and bridged the gap between physical matter and soul space.

Now, he needed to know what happened when he manipulated living physical matter and spiritual essence simultaneously.

"Your foundations have served their purpose as passive anchors," Caius's voice echoed through the vast throne room, cold, resonant, and entirely devoid of mercy. "Now... let us see how much forced integration your cores can withstand."

Caius extended his hand, his obsidian core flaring with a deafening, glass-shattering hum as the experiment began.
