CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 120: FALL OF THE ONE-EYED BUTCHER

The air in the courtyard shattered as Krag'gath closed the gap in an earth-breaking bound, bringing his massive waraxe down in a brutal overhead arc coated in raw, green mana.

BOOM!

The impact detonated the stone floor, but Caius was no longer there. He stepped through micro-spatial steps like a ghost, reappearing at Krag'gath’s side, below his line of sight, and behind his back, toying with the giant warlord as if he were a slow, clumsy child.

Caius didn't even bother delivering lethal strikes. He danced around the heavy swings, shaving away armor plates, flicking the flat of his ivory sabres against the warlord's ribs, and laughing softly as Krag'gath swung wildly at empty air. Every movement from Caius was fluid, precise, and utterly disrespectful.

"Stand still and fight, you slippery rat!" Krag'gath screamed, his green skin turning dark with blood and sweat. He slammed his fist onto his chest, activating his Iron Rampage to harden his body like solid steel.

Caius suddenly stopped ten paces away. He sheathed the Sabre-Twin Fangs back into his ring and raised his right hand, extending two fingers toward the warlord.

"Let's take back what belongs to me," Caius whispered softly.

A wave of strange, dark nostalgia washed over him. For a fleeting second, his mind flashed back to the blood-soaked ruins of Castle Precipice two and a half years ago. He was only fourteen then, watching helplessly as Cullum Macrae fell to the executioner's blade. In that moment of blinding, unbridled grief, he had drawn his warbow and released his very first spark of dark energy. It was raw, clumsy, and entirely unrefined because he did not yet know how to control the power humming within his veins.

Now, standing before the murderer of his father, Caius focused his refined Crown Core and reconnected with that exact fragment of lingering dark mana lodged deep inside Krag'gath’s right eye socket.

He didn't just detonate it. He pulled on it.

With a sharp mental tug, Caius drew the ancient, raw black energy straight out of the warlord's flesh, taking back the very first manifestation of his dark power. As the dark aura bled out of the socket and gathered into a swirling orb of black light in Caius's palm, he channeled a strand of spatial magic to seal it into a small, floating crystal sphere, keeping it as a dark memento of the day his childhood ended.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Deprived of the stabilizing dark mana that had rotted his flesh for years, the wound in Krag'gath's face collapsed entirely.

BZZZZT-CRACK!

Microscopic spatial rifts tore through the warlord's optic nerves, rotting flesh, and brain tissue from the inside out in a devastating chain reaction.

Krag'gath let out an ear-splitting, ungodly shriek of absolute agony. The pain was so intense it shattered his Iron Rampage state instantly. He dropped his massive waraxe, grabbing his face with both hands as he collapsed heavily onto his knees right in front of the stronghold gates.

Caius walked up to the kneeling warlord calmly, sliding the memento crystal into his spatial ring.

Without a word, he drew a single short blade from his hip and cleanly sliced Krag'gath's throat open. Blood gushed onto the red gravel, and with one final, precise flick, Caius severed the warlord's head completely from his shoulders.

As the massive headless body collapsed into the dirt, Caius bent down and lifted the heavy, severed head by its hair. His Eye of the Loom flagged the dense spiritual knot at the crown chakra point. Plunging his hand directly into the top of the head and bypassing the dantian in the chest entirely, he wrenched out a glowing, pulsating green crown essence bead, the condensed spiritual power of a Grand Chieftain. He casually tossed the bead into his dimensional storage ring.

Then, casting the bald, bleeding head down onto the gravel right at his feet, Caius unbuttoned his trousers.

Standing directly before the massive fortress gate under the gaze of hundreds of terrified, silent Orcs watching from the ramparts, he unceremoniously pissed all over Krag'gath’s severed head.

The stream washed over the grotesque, screaming expression locked onto the warlord's face. Caius took a moment to admire the steam rising from the golden liquid against the cold mountain air, fulfilling the exact vow he had made minutes prior.

When he was done, Caius summoned a fine thread of black spatial mana. The dark energy enveloped the head, cleanly stripping away the skin, muscle, and eyes in seconds until only a smooth, polished white skull remained. Satisfied, Caius swept the clean skull into his storage ring.

He looked around the dead-silent courtyard until his pale eyes locked onto the largest, most heavily armored Orc commander shivering against the stone wall.

"Clean up the battlefield," Caius commanded, his cold voice carrying across the entire front gate. "Have your men carry the warlord's body to a private underground chamber, and lead me to the hall."

The massive Orc commander bowed his head frantically, barely able to speak. "Y-Yes... my Lord!"

Caius turned his back on the corpses and walked through the heavy iron gates of the stronghold. He strode into the high-vaulted throne room of the volcano keep, climbed the stone steps, and sat down comfortably upon the iron-and-bone throne of the Iron-Skull Clan.
