CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 112: EYE OF THE LOOM VS. THE MOON'S EXECUTIONER
Caius stepped out of the dark archway and onto the blood-stained sands of the sunken arena. High above, thousands of Nyx'ari spectators roared from the towering basalt tiers, their voices merging into a deafening wall of sound. In the elevated royal boxes, the white-gold banners of the Absolute Sun and the midnight-blue drapes of the Absolute Moon hung like silent, predatory vultures watching the pit below.
Opposite him stood Zul'kor of the Midnight Court.
The Moon Palace executioner was lean and tall, clad in form-fitting dark silk armor that seemed to absorb the light around it. In his hands, Zul'kor held twin, wave-bladed execution daggers that dripped with a viscous, purple liquid.
Caius paused thirty paces away, his hands resting lightly on the ivory hilts of the Sabre-Twin Fangs strapped across his back. Deep within his chest, his Eye of the Loom flared into active perception, turning his vision into a hyper-detailed grid of spatial currents and mana flows.
Target Analysis: Zul'kor of the Midnight Court
Mana Signature: High-density Shadow-Void element, integrated directly with the Underworld's assassin-core.
Stance: Low-Shadow Glide, allowing instant phase-shifting into environmental shadows.
Weapon: Twin Executioner Daggers, coated with Soul-Numbing Viper Venom (tier-seven paralytic/corrosive agent).
Tactical Threat: High speed, spatial phase-blending, lethal poison.
Weakness: Slight delay during phase-reemergence (0.04 seconds).
"A human ward playing at being a warrior," Zul'kor sneered, his voice echoing from behind a dark mesh mask. "House Vel'drin grew desperate, parading a dead man's son before the Sovereigns."
Caius didn't respond to the bait. "Caius, son of Cullum Macrae, Ward of House Vel'drin," he stated quietly, drawing the Sabre-Twin Fangs in a single, fluid cross-motion.
The ivory blades hummed with a subtle, suppressed spark of dark purple lightning, but Caius intentionally kept ninety percent of the thunder-core locked within his soul sea. To the grand stand and the envoys above, it appeared as nothing more than standard elemental enchantment.
"Begin!" the herald's voice thundered across the pit.

Zul'kor vanished instantly.
His body dissolved into a pool of liquid shade, sliding across the arena sand at terrifying speed. Within a fraction of a second, three distinct shadow-clones erupted from the sand around Caius, their poisoned daggers driving toward his neck, kidneys, and chest simultaneously.
Phase-Shift Strike.
Caius didn't step back. Remembering Patriarch Vane's warning to make the victory look like a tight, martial struggle, he deployed five thin, visible spatial threads from his left hand, weaving an Obsidian Lattice shield while parrying the central dagger with his right short sword.
CLANG-SPARK!
Sparks flew as the ivory blade met the poisoned steel. The force of the strike pushed Caius back two steps, his boots leaving deep furrows in the sand. To the crowd, he appeared pushed to the limit, barely parrying the executioner's relentless assault.
Zul'kor didn't relent. The executioner dissolved into another pool of shade, reappearing in a blur of motion. He lashed out with a sweeping low kick followed by a reverse-grip slash aimed at Caius's throat. Caius executed a knife-edge slip, sliding past the blade by a fraction of an inch, but a second dagger whipped around from the blind spot, grazing his shoulder and melting the outer layer of his dark cloak with corrosive venom.
Caius gritted his teeth, spinning on his heel to throw off a barrage of rapid, darting stabs. Each strike came from a different angle as Zul'kor abused his phase-blending technique, slipping through the air like smoke. Caius parried left and right, his short swords clashing against wave-bladed steel in a furious sequence of sparks. He purposely allowed his breathing to sound ragged, projecting an image of a combatant stretched to his absolute breaking point.
"Is that all the human ward has?!" Zul'kor mocked, his real body materializing directly above Caius, driving both daggers downward in a double-executioner plunge with crushing momentum. "Weak!"
Caius’s Eye of the Loom locked onto the exact 0.04-second window of Zul'kor’s physical reemergence.
Now.
Instead of unleashing the full, catastrophic blast of his Sabre-Tiger thunder-core, Caius channeled just a tiny spike of lightning directly through the ivory blade into Zul'kor's right dagger.
BZZZZT!
The hidden kinetic shockwave traveled up the metal, numbing Zul'kor’s wrist for a fraction of a second. Zul'kor’s eyes widened behind his mask as his posture faltered mid-air.
Caius twisted his body, stepping inside Zul'kor's guard with assassin-honed precision. He brought the left Sabre-Fang up in an upward arc, the ivory blade carving through the dark silk armor and severing Zul'kor's right wrist clean off.
SWOOSH-SPLASH!
Blood sprayed across the sand. Zul'kor gasped in shock, trying to phase back into the shadows, but Caius didn't give him the chance. With a lightning-fast thread-pull, Caius pinned Zul'kor’s remaining arm to his chest and drove the right short sword straight through the executioner's sternum.
Silence fell over the arena.
Caius leaned in close to the dying assassin's ear, his voice dropping to an icy whisper. "House Vel'drin doesn't raise prey."
Caius wrenched the blade free, and Zul'kor collapsed onto the sand, lifeless.
Caius stood over the fallen executioner, flicking the blood off his twin ivory swords before sheathing them. Above him, in the high gallery, the envoys of the Absolute Sun and Absolute Moon stood up slowly, staring down at the human boy who had just killed one of the Moon Palace's elite in under two minutes.
