Building an Eternal Dynasty: The Eternal Legacy System
Chapter 186: The Black Dragon of the Distant Star
The Black Dragon of the Distant Star
The hunter had become the hunted.
His forehead slowly gathered cold sweat.
"Such profound karmic power—it has already reached the level of the Law itself..."
He swallowed quietly.
"The one behind this must be terrifying beyond measure..."
The man’s name was Vernon Greamory.
He was the current Patriarch of the Greamory family.
His cultivation had reached the Seventh Level of the Grand Saint Realm.
Seventy percent of his Laws had already touched the Great Law level.
He had been born with an extraordinary affinity for two supreme paths—
The Great Law of Thunder.
And the Great Law of Karma.
With such talent, he should have possessed an invincible heart.
Yet he did not.
Perhaps he had once possessed one.
Perhaps, in his youth, his heart had been as fearless as any supreme genius.
But that heart had been shattered by a single spear.
The wound had never truly healed.
So whenever uncertainty appeared, doubt followed.
And now—
He had encountered something he could neither understand nor control.
His instincts screamed at him that something was wrong.
"The Golden Age... is also an age of great peril..."
Vernon Greamory murmured.
The arrogance that had burned within his eyes when he first sensed the Emperor Weapon had quietly disappeared.
Only caution remained.
Then his expression darkened.
"Hmph! Unfilial daughter! If you had married into the imperial family as you should have, the Greamory family would be unshakable!"
His fingers tightened around the armrest.
"At least the bastard child you left behind has remarkable talent. When she comes of age, marrying her into the imperial family will suffice..."
His voice became colder.
With that, Vernon Greamory closed his eyes.
His consciousness sank deeper.
He began desperately searching for that single thread of karma.
But somewhere deep within his heart, a faint uneasiness continued to grow.
He didn’t know where that thread had come from.
He didn’t know who had placed it there.
And most importantly—
He didn’t know what the person behind it intended to do.

Within a supreme sacred land—
Clouds of spiritual mist drifted between ancient mountains.
The air was strangely peaceful.
No thunder.
No killing intent.
No disturbance from the outside world seemed capable of entering this place.
A cultivator dressed in simple robes sat quietly before a stone chessboard.
He did not look toward the rumbling heavens.
He didn’t even raise his head.
Instead—
He gazed down at the chessboard before him.
Across from him sat a young monk.
The monk’s robes were clean and plain.
His expression was peaceful.
His eyes were filled with compassion.
And between them—
The chessboard remained silent.
"Warren, an Emperor Weapon has appeared!"
"The Emperor Weapons have not emerged for ten thousand years. Now, as all living beings face tribulation—every kind of change arises. A great calamity approaches..." The young monk spoke with compassion.
Warren grinned casually.
He gathered his disheveled robes with one hand, looking completely unconcerned by the upheaval spreading through the heavens.
"Bald one, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!"
"If this world doesn’t make me happy—I’ll destroy it!"
"Be it the Forbidden or the Weird—all of it, the same!"
His voice carried an almost ridiculous boldness.
There was no reverence in it.
No fear.
He spoke about destroying the world with the same careless tone another person might use when deciding whether to leave a tavern.
The young monk could only shake his head.
"Amitabha. Warren, you are a Reader of the Book—one who gazes upon the heavenly mysteries. How can you be so reckless?"
His expression remained compassionate, but a trace of helplessness appeared in his eyes.
Warren merely chuckled.
He clearly had no intention of arguing.
Instead, the young monk slowly extended one hand toward the chessboard between them.
His fingers hovered over the pieces.
Then—
The ordinary chessboard suddenly erupted with countless visions.
The small wooden board seemed to become infinite.
Three thousand colossal stars rose into the sky.
Each star was enormous, brilliant, and ancient, their radiance spreading across the endless darkness.
Below those stars lay ten vast and ancient lands.
Above them hung nine layers of profound, mysterious radiance.
The entire chessboard transformed into a miniature reflection of the heavens.
This was the Nine Heavens, Ten Earths, and Three Thousand Great Domains.
A world so vast that even the strongest cultivators could spend their entire lives traveling and still fail to see its boundaries.
Then—
Four ethereal phenomena appeared around the three thousand domains and the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths.
A crimson dragon coiled through the heavens, fierce and proud.
A golden crow spread its enormous wings, bathing the stars in golden light.
A white tiger crouched low, its claws pressing against the void.
And a qilin strode across the heavens, every step causing ripples to spread through space.
The young monk stared at the manifestation before him.
"The Four Divine Kingdoms hold the realm’s fortune—suppressing certain ancient Forbidden ones. It has been over a hundred thousand years."
His voice was quiet.
Yet every word carried the weight of countless years.
Then his gaze shifted.
He looked toward one of the most remote stars.
Unlike the others, there was no magnificent phenomenon surrounding it.
No golden light.
No sacred aura.
No ancient beast protecting it.
Instead—
A single thread of pure black rose defiantly from that distant star.
The monk’s eyes narrowed.
He focused.
The scene immediately became clearer.
A pitch-black ancestral dragon was roaring and howling.
Its enormous body seemed to coil around the distant star itself.
Behind the black dragon was something even more frightening.
A profound, unfathomable aura pulsed quietly.
It had not yet been unleashed.
But even restrained, that presence caused the surrounding laws to tremble.
"Among all the realms and all living beings facing tribulation—besides the Four Divine Kingdoms, a new nation’s guardian spirit beast has appeared!"
