Chapter 97: Ch 97: Visiting Ethan - Part 2

’Darn it! I don’t have time to think about anything. Ethan’s condition is getting more and more dire by the second. Where are the calming pills I keep on myself?’

There was a chance that these calming pills wouldn’t work...no, actually, Noah was sure these calming pills he had were fake. That was why he was going to use his own powers to calm Ethan down.

But since Ethan was in such a bad condition, he knew that only SS-class or above guiding could snap him out of it in time. And if Noah did it right, then he would be discovered.

’I am damned if I do and damned if I don’t. It’s a good thing I decided to carry these pills with me.’

Noah clutched the two pills in his hand before he approached Ethan slowly. The esper seemed hyper-aware of his presence and even growled to show that he was not happy with what was happening.

But Noah ignored this and slowly started sending calming waves toward him through the hand on his shoulder.

"It will be fine. Here, take these pills. They will make you feel much better."

Noah held the pills in front of Ethan’s face, and Ethan looked stubborn about taking them. But the guiding Noah was giving him also made him feel lucid.

"Darn it! I don’t think I want to take more pills after being messed up. Can I not take them?"

Ethan whined like a kid who was sick and only wanted to be left alone. It was a feeling Noah knew well.

But unfortunately, leaving Ethan alone would mean that there was no telling what was going to happen to him.

"Are you sure you want me to leave you alone? I can certainly do that. However, you will only feel worse as time passes."

Noah reminded the esper, who bit his lips before nodding slowly and opening his mouth to put the pills in.

Ethan was behaving like a kid who could not take care of himself, but it did not feel cute. Rather, it felt concerning to see him in this condition.

Sigh

’I would rather not see him like this if I can help it.’

But Noah could not help it, and he ended up placing the pills in Ethan’s mouth before telling him to swallow.

Ethan somehow managed to swallow them before he started feeling sleepy. Between the medicine and Noah’s guiding, it was clear that he could not keep his eyes open anymore.

"I think...I am falling asleep. This is not good. I need to keep myself awake-"

"It’s fine for you to go to sleep. No one here will criticize you. Also, I am the only one here, and I will stand guard for you."

Noah promised, and Ethan frowned at his words.

"You...want to keep watch? But you are a guide. I cannot make you..."

That was all Ethan got out before he shut his eyes and went to sleep. The poor thing was beyond exhausted after what happened.

Noah waited for a few seconds to make sure Ethan was truly asleep before carefully pulling his hand away from his shoulder.

The room was finally quiet, but Noah still did not feel completely at ease. Something about the situation kept bothering him. He could not understand how Ethan had fallen into such a condition.

’What happened to him? He looked completely fine a few days ago, so why did his condition suddenly get this bad?’

Noah knew that espers could lose control when they lacked guiding, but Ethan did not seem like someone who would willingly ignore his own condition until it reached this point.

There had to be another reason, and Noah wanted to find out what it was before Ethan ended up getting hurt.

He was about to check Ethan’s condition again when he heard a faint sound coming from outside the room. Noah immediately froze and glanced toward the door.

’Please tell me Alan and Daniel did not ignore what I told them.’

He quietly approached the door and placed his ear against it, but there was no sound coming from the other side. Somehow, that made him even more suspicious.

Noah slowly unlocked the door and opened it just enough to peek outside, only to find Alan standing there with his arms crossed and an unhappy expression on his face.

"I told you not to come inside."

Noah whispered, and Alan immediately frowned.

"I did not come inside. I was waiting outside like you told me to. But I heard Ethan struggling, so I wanted to make sure you were alright."

Daniel was standing beside him and nodded in agreement.

"I was worried too."

Noah sighed before stepping outside and quietly closing the door behind him.

"Ethan is asleep now. I managed to calm him down, so you two do not need to worry anymore."

Alan stared at Noah for several seconds before his eyes narrowed.

"Did you use your guiding to calm him down?"

Alan sounded a little jealous when he asked this question, but there was also a hint of suspicion on his face that made Noah realize that he needed to be careful about what he said here.

He did not want to give Alan a reason to investigate him.

"I did try to use guiding, but it failed. So I ended up using some pills I got from my sponsor. I was almost afraid that they wouldn’t work, but luckily for me, they did, and Ethan is alright now."

Noah shot Daniel a fond glance, only to have Alan quickly step between himself and Daniel.

As a guide, Noah’s instincts screamed at him to get Alan away from here. That esper should be nowhere near a patient with his temper and tendencies.

"Ethan is asleep right now. I think we should leave him alone...Alan, what are you doing?"

Daniel asked with a stressed-out voice. He was rubbing his forehead while looking at his partner, who was approaching Ethan and checking up on him.

"Well, I am taking a look at his memories to see what happened. After all, if someone like Ethan can fall victim to this, then I am sure anyone here can."
