Chapter 56: Ch 56: Dropping Charges?

"You are a bastard! I don’t know why Noah wants to even keep in contact with you, but I am not going to take it! I am going to show Noah your true face soon."

Daniel’s threat lingered in the air, but Alan looked even more amused after hearing these words.

"Oh my! Your threat just made my heart skip a beat in fear. Whatever shall I do?"

Alan’s actions made Daniel’s eye twitch, and he raised his hand to hit the esper again before realizing that his hand was throbbing where he had hit Alan before.

So this time, instead of hitting Alan again, Daniel lowered his hand and forcefully calmed himself down.

"You are going to regret your actions in the future, and once you do, I will make sure you are never able to see Noah again."

Daniel promised before he shoved past Alan and opened the door to his room. Alan, who was left behind, narrowed his eyes.

He was usually an easy-going person, but Daniel was getting on his nerves for some reason. And Alan knew that it had everything to do with Noah.

"How cute. Do you think you can stop me from seeing Noah just because you want to? You’re overestimating your worth."

Alan whispered but quickly brought back his smile as soon as he noticed that other espers were starting to look his way.

He did not care what happened to Daniel, but what he did know was that Noah would not be happy if Daniel was hurt and the reason turned out to be Alan. And that made Alan protect Daniel just this once.

Alan was so distracted that he did not even notice that Daniel had somehow picked open his locked door and entered.

’Are they fighting? Why is Alan taking so long to bring Daniel back?’

Noah felt nervous as he kept looking at the locked door with a hint of hesitation. He even tried to sharpen his senses to pick up the sound of fighting outside, but he was not able to hear anything.

As per protocol, the esper rooms were soundproof and ability-proof to help sensitive espers relax once they were in their space.

Of course, powerful espers like Alan had their ways around this, but for most espers, this much preparation was enough.

There was no way for Noah to be able to hear anything that was going on outside. So he quietly waited for Alan and Daniel to come back.

Finally, after what felt like forever, the door shook and then opened. Noah watched in anticipation as Daniel entered the room and frowned as he looked around.

"This feels unfair. The treatment these darn espers get is so much better than ours!"

Daniel’s voice had a hint of bitterness, and Noah agreed with him regarding this. But unlike Daniel, he already knew how bad the situation was going to get in the future, so he kept his mouth shut.

The pair sighed and waited for Alan to enter as well, and after a whole minute, the esper came in as well.

"So, care to explain what you are doing here?"

Alan quickly walked beside Noah and sat down, and he must have given Daniel some kind of look because Daniel’s face went red and he quickly grabbed Noah and pulled him closer and away from Alan.

"I think it would be best if you keep your distance from Noah for now."

"But I think it will be perfectly fine if I have Noah sit beside me. Didn’t you come here for protection? Then, the safest place is beside me."

Alan had grabbed Noah’s other arm to pull him back down.

And just like that, Noah’s shoulders began to ache once more. But this time, he decided he could say something.

"I think I will just sit in the middle. The explanation will likely take some time, so let’s get comfortable."

Both Alan and Daniel let go of his arm, but they quickly moved closer. And then it came time to explain what happened...and Noah had no idea where he could even start.

"Alan, do you know about Daniel’s stalker?"

Noah decided that if he was going to get Alan and Daniel closer, then he needed to make Daniel sound a little pitiful. That way, Alan could feel some pity for Daniel.

"I think Daniel mentioned something like that. Honestly, it is so common in the academy that I forgot about it. So, was this something related to that stalker? Was he the one who caused this?"

Alan asked the question in such a casual way that Noah felt tongue-tied.

’Hey, isn’t this the part where you are supposed to ask Daniel if he’s fine and offer to help him? What are you doing, you stupid esper?’

Noah wanted to shake him and yell, but for now, he forced himself to continue speaking.

"Rightttttt, so that esper came after me, and I knocked him out. The next thing I know, he has an artifact that caused this mess. I think the teachers will try to bury this incident. What do you want to do?"

Had this incident only involved Noah, he would have pretended to let it go and extracted his revenge in secret. But this incident was too big to hide.

Moreover, with Alan’s personality, how could he ever let this go...

"Hmm, I already know that the teachers are useless. But I don’t feel like looking into this either when the evidence of what happened is so clear. I doubt even these teachers would miss it..."

Was Alan...truly saying what Noah thought he was saying? He wanted to let this incident go unpunished? Not that Noah had anything against it, but...

’Look at that smile. It is definitely fake. He is planning on doing something behind my back. I just know it...’

Alan was going to take care of this situation himself, and Noah had a feeling he might get in trouble because of it. And if that happened, then there was even a chance he might get expelled.

’Darn it! I will need to take care of this situation before Alan does...now, how can I do that?’
