Chapter 46: Ch 46: Signing the Waver

The male esper standing in front of the medical office’s door started to get impatient, and he kept looking inside to try and spot Noah.

Riku was not the tallest man in the world, but he was still tall enough to block the other teacher’s line of sight, and that forced the esper to look at him.

"What do you think you are doing? Get out of my way right now. The one I have business with is not you."

The rude teacher told Riku while trying to push past him. He was an SS-ranked physical esper, which was rare, so Riku’s strength was not enough to block his way.

But just because he did not have enough strength did not mean he did not have other ways to hold the teacher back.

He grabbed the SS-grade esper’s arm and sent a hint of healing through it.

The effect was immediate, and the SS-grade esper let out a blood-curdling scream before he grabbed Riku.

"What do you think you are doing?"

The SS-grade esper asked, and Riku replied calmly.

"No, what do you think you are doing? This is the medical wing, and the people in here are my patients. You cannot just walk in there and disturb everyone."

Riku told the other esper, who looked even more annoyed.

"I am not disturbing anyone important. I just need Student Noah to sign these papers stating that he is not going to press any charges for what happened and that he won’t look into the situation either. Once he does, I will leave him alone."

The intention of the other teacher was clear. He was trying to absolve himself of any crime he had committed. At the same time, he was trying to keep the academy out of any legal trouble by having Noah sign these papers.

It was a cheap but successful tactic that the academy often used. And the reason it worked was because the kids were too timid to fight back.

Riku would have usually stepped aside when this happened and allowed the teachers to continue what they were doing. After all, it was none of his business, and he did not want to sour his relationship with the others.

But Noah’s case felt different.

Perhaps because Noah was someone who had been injured one way or another the whole time he had been in the academy, and Riku had been exposed to him so much, he decided to make a foolish decision.

"I am afraid that I cannot wake Noah up right now. He finally fell asleep after getting treatment from me. I am afraid waking him up now would hinder any progress he has made."

This was bullshit he was making up on the spot, but who would be able to fact-check him?

And just as he expected, the esper in front of him looked confused, but he quickly nodded to show that he understood.

"I see. But it should still be fine, right? It won’t matter if Noah does not fully recover. He’s nothing special anyway, and it might make his grades drop enough to throw him out. Anyway, it never made sense to have a B-class guide in our prestigious academy."

The teacher quickly tried to justify his reason for waking Noah up, even when he knew that it could harm him.

Riku was running out of excuses now, and he was starting to feel annoyed. Soon, he would truly have only two choices—either knock this esper out or sell Noah out.

He rubbed his forehead, and a headache started to build up behind his temples. And for the first time in a while, he decided to pray to God.

’Dear God, can you please help me out here? Otherwise, I am afraid I might finally end up killing someone.’

The gods must have heard his plea because Alan suddenly appeared in the hallway with Ethan and Daniel.

Riku looked at the clock and noticed that it was lunch break, and he thanked his lucky stars that these kids arrived in time.

Alan noticed the tense atmosphere immediately, and he was also sharp enough to realize what was happening.

"Teacher, is there a reason you decided to visit my friend in such a hurry? And what are those papers? Mind if I take a look?"

Alan asked, trying to reach for the papers his teacher held. His actions made the teacher panic, and he pulled the papers closer to himself.

"It is nothing. Since Student Noah has company, I will leave now. I will come and meet you again later."

The teacher finally left, but Alan continued to look at his back...or rather, at the papers in his hand. He seemed to have realized what those papers were for.

And he was not the only one. The other two seemed to have a hint about the true nature of those papers.

’Tsk, this is a bunch of terrifyingly sharp kids. I suddenly feel glad that I am on their side.’

Riku did not let it show on his face that he was thankful when he welcomed them all inside.

"Are you here to visit Noah? He’s asleep after I gave him medicine, but you are free to spend your time here."

Riku told them, and they all nodded.

But Daniel did not head toward Noah immediately. Instead, he chose to face the doctor.

"Sir, about those papers. Were they-"

"Most likely a waiver to make Noah drop any formal charges he could press. It’s standard procedure that the academy follows. You had better keep your nose out of it if you don’t want any trouble."

He warned the kids, but he doubted the academy would be able to do anything to them since they all had powerful abilities.

Moreover, people like Alan and Ethan were even more famous because of their family backgrounds, and that made people either want to befriend and use them or keep away to avoid making them their enemies.

’Noah has good friends, but the academy is determined as well. I doubt they would stay quiet.’

And as Riku expected, the second attempt to get that waiver signed happened as soon as lunch break ended. But this time, the one who came was a guide and not an esper.
