[BL]The Matchmaker Guide Doesn't Want Love
Chapter 30: Ch 30: Should we get others involved?
Noah had wanted to call the authorities and show them what had happened to their room. And if they still refused to help, then he was willing to shake them until they gave in and started an investigation.
The fact that someone had been able to get into their room and cause all this while they were away, even though the door was locked, was proof enough of the facility’s negligence.
Even Daniel looked startled by what had happened, and his grip tightened around Noah’s hand as he slammed the door to the teachers’ lounge open.
Most teachers usually preferred their individual cabins, but enough of them were in the lounge to look up with startled expressions and rush toward Daniel.
"Student Daniel, did something happen? Are you hurt?"
"Did someone mess with you?"
Noah was not exactly forgotten by the teachers, but he sure felt like he was a second thought to them, which was what he wanted. But the feeling he got from this did not feel nice.
’Get your head back in the game, Noah. You are not here to be treated well, but to carry out your mission.’
He reminded himself as he watched Daniel push the teachers back a little to create some distance before he spoke.
"Someone broke into our room while we were out and trashed it. And before you ask—yes! We did lock the room before we went out."
Daniel’s words made the teachers look at him with concerned faces.
"Someone broke into your room? This does not look good! Show us what happened."
The teachers quickly followed the two students back to their room, where one side was still trashed while the other remained neat and untouched.
But there was a weird air around the teachers once they noticed what had happened inside the room. And instead of telling them that they would catch the culprit, they decided to investigate further.
After two whole minutes, one of the teachers spoke up.
"This...does not feel like a prank, but someone’s deliberate attempt at revenge. I don’t think it is right for teachers to get involved in student affairs like these. I am afraid we cannot help you in this matter."
The teacher just...gave up on the matter? No, not so much gave up, but rather they had no intention of looking into it in the first place.
After investigating the incident, they must have found that it was connected with Noah and not Daniel, as they had initially suspected. And that sucked all the energy and enthusiasm out of their expressions.
Daniel must have noticed this as well, because Noah saw him grit his teeth and then, for the first time, Noah also saw Daniel lie.
"So, are you saying you are not going to help me when someone trashed my bed so badly that I cannot even sleep on it anymore?"
Daniel asked, and the teachers immediately looked flustered by his question.
"Student Daniel, there is no need to lie and cover for your friend here. We can tell which bed is yours from your belongings. If your roommate has a problem, then he can file a report with us himself-"
"So, just because that is Noah’s side, does that mean I can no longer sleep there? I have been sleeping there for days now because I like that side, but we have not changed our belongings because I am too lazy to."
Noah admired Daniel’s ability to bullshit his way through this situation and not sound ridiculous.
His words sounded convincing enough to the point where even Noah had a hard time telling whether he was telling the truth or not. And that was genuinely admirable.
Sigh
"Is that so? Since this is the case, it looks like we have no choice but to start investigating this immediately. But since you won’t be able to use this room in the meantime, we will have you shift to another room temporarily."
The teachers looked determined to have them out of this room. But Noah had a feeling they were going to separate them using this opportunity.
He decided to prevent this before the teachers could propose it.
"Uhm, can I still room with Daniel even if we are being put in separate rooms? I don’t feel comfortable with other people yet...especially after what happened here."
Noah pointed out, and thankfully, Daniel nodded in agreement to show that he wanted the same. Noah felt validated when he saw the uncomfortable expressions on the teachers’ faces.
They looked shocked that he had asked for something like this.
"You want...to still room together? That would be a little difficult given the circumstances. Why don’t you stay with other people for now so that we can monitor who is being targeted? We can get the seniors involved and-"
"No thanks. I don’t feel comfortable with other people yet. If you are not going to put us together, then don’t bother shifting us to another room."
Daniel shut the idea down, and for good reason.
Noah had a feeling these teachers were deliberately changing their rooms and even mentioning seniors. But Daniel’s rejection was making them second-guess it.
Sigh
"Alright, since you are so sure, we can do this another way. We have a double room prepared, and Daniel can take it. Meanwhile, we can repurpose an office for your roommate to live in. That way, we can monitor who the target is, right?"
The teacher asked in an attempt to pacify the pair. But the fact that they did not even know Noah’s name, much less say it, proved that they were only doing this for Daniel’s sake.
Daniel’s expression looked ready to fight, but Noah did consider this the best possible outcome.
He was afraid of what the teachers would say if they still insisted on living together. Maybe they would truly end up sending them to the seniors.
So before that happened, Noah spoke up.
"This sounds like a fine solution. But may I know how long the investigation will last?"
The teacher had no interest in Noah’s words, but he still decided to give him an answer.
"We will see when the investigation ends. For now, catching the culprit is our first priority. Don’t worry, your safety is our top priority."
