Chapter 118: Ch 118: A Sudden Vacation

The classes were suspended for only 2 days after the disaster that was the festival, and things resumed afterwards.

No teacher brought up what happened, and as for the students affected, they were still in the medical wing.

Guides from all years had been dragged in to help, and the only ones who escaped were the ones who were already bonded.

Of course, Noah received a message telling him to help as well. But Alan only smiled at him and said he would ’have a talk’ with the teacher. The next thing Noah knew, he did not have to go for the guiding sessions, which he was thankful for.

The class only had about 4 people left after what happened at the festival, and it was starting to look even emptier compared to before.

Also, the four people present here were coincidentally Noah, Ethan, Alan and Daniel.

The teacher entered the classroom and sighed as soon as he noticed the lack of people in there.

"Well, I have good news for you all. Because of what happened, we have decided you all deserve a vacation. Usually, we don’t allow students to head back home so early, but we are willing to make an exception this time."

The teacher expected to hear cheers of joy, but the only one who looked truly happy to be going home was Ethan.

Alan looked mildly uncomfortable, while Daniel looked like the world was ending at this news. And as for Noah...

’I...have to go back to the labs? But I managed to escape. I never want to go back or I won’t be able to leave again. Hurry, I need to protest-’

Noah opened his mouth, but no sound would come out of him. His throat refused to work, causing Noah to make choking noises. But it only served to make him panic more.

’I never want to go back. I would much rather end my suffering the other way. That’s right! I should-’

[Harmful thoughts detected. Immediate action will be taken]

The system tried to delete Noah’s harmful thoughts, but the panic he felt still remained in his bones, chilling him to his core. It was a feeling that felt impossible for him to ignore.

"Excuse me, but is there no way for us to apply to stay here? There will be no one home even if I do want to go back."

Daniel pointed out in hopes that the teacher would allow him to stay. And honestly, Noah wanted to stay as well. He knew that if Daniel got permission, then he could try and argue that he wanted to stay for Daniel’s sake.

So for the first time, Noah wanted their teacher to be of use and grant Daniel’s wish.

But their teacher disappointed him once more.

"What are you talking about? This academy is not a charity case. We cannot let people stay here just because they want to. Besides, we are going to carry out major repairs, so you better head back home. Enjoy your vacation."

The teacher shot down Daniel’s offer within seconds, and Noah tried his hardest to not show his disappointment. But it was hard.

"Hey, don’t be so disappointed. If you don’t want to go home, then it is fine. We can all crash at Ethan’s place for the time being. Right, Ethan?"

Alan turned to look at his fellow esper since he was the only one with a stable home life.

Ethan looked startled by the sudden favour he was being asked and blinked rapidly while looking at Alan before he pointed to himself.

"You want to stay at my home. I don’t mind, but...I don’t think that’s a good idea either. Both my parents would be home, and they are not fans of outsiders. They have never allowed me to have friends over either. Something about how their work is ’confidential.’"

The silence that spread was awkward and Ethan felt the need to make an excuse for his parents’ behaviour.

"You have to understand, I am not saying you cannot stay. I am just saying that my parents would probably make things difficult for all of us. It would be better to head back home on your own."

Ethan explained with an awkward expression, clearly unsure about what he was supposed to do in this situation.

"That is fine. We can deal with your parents if they complain."

Alan replied confidently, as if dealing with Ethan’s parents was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Noah looked at Daniel, who seemed to be thinking deeply about the situation. He was clearly not happy about the idea of going back home either.

"What about you, Daniel? Is there really no one waiting for you at home?"

Noah asked, hoping there was some other option they could use.

Daniel shook his head.

"There is no one."

His answer was simple, but something about the way he said it made Noah feel a little uncomfortable.

Alan also seemed to notice the change in Daniel’s expression and stopped smiling for a moment.

"Then we will figure something out. There is no reason for us to split up just because the academy decided to send everyone home."

Alan declared, and Noah could not help but stare at him.

’Since when did he become so considerate?’

It was strange seeing Alan act like this, especially when he usually only cared about staying close to Noah.

But perhaps the festival had changed something in him.

Or maybe he simply did not want to let Daniel disappear.

"Alright, then let’s figure out where we are staying before the academy sends us home. Those who are in favor of staying at Ethan’s, nod their head."

Noah said, and the other two nodded while Ethan looked uncertain.

However, since it was already decided, he could not easily protest.

"Ugh, my parents are going to kill me for this."

He complained, only to be ignored by the others. And just like that, it was decided that they would be all heading to Ethan’s home the day after.
