Chapter 407: Village of the Ice Elves

  • Next Chapter

It took the locals by surprise. The sudden collapse of their leader. They looked at him and saw his white eyes staring back at him.

They weren’t sure whether he was even breathing, but then few of them saw his chest move, and they let out a collective sigh of relief.

"Ra’Gah!"

The locals shouted, trying to wake him up, but he was deep asleep, like he hadn’t slept in weeks or months.

Then, Fang Raon tore apart the rope that bound his arms, and he slowly stood up—scaring the locals.

They backed away—their arms holding the makeshift spears trembling—it didn’t seem like they were that familiar with fighting.

"I am not here to fight."

Fang Raon said with a calm voice and raised his hand, like he was signaling them to lower the spears.

The locals looked at each other. They didn’t know what to do. They didn’t think that Fang Raon worked with the Ice Elves.

However.

Ra’Gah usually did the thinking for them.

"Lower the spears..."

In that moment, a hunched-back old man walked over—holding a black walking cane with both hands—the cane had a big head made of onyx.

"Why have you come here, young man?"

Raz’Behemot asked.

"I am here to kill the King of the Ice Elves."

Fang Raon said.

He said it so casually that the locals thought he was joking for a moment, but he really wasn’t—there was no falsehood or any tone of jokingness in his voice.

"The king of the Ice Elves resides where winter crows gather and where the snow falls—he isn’t here, so you may go."

Raz’Behemot said.

"Mmh, very well."

Fang Raon looked at the pipe, where he came from, and then he tipped an invisible hat and started climbing up the pipe.

"...Wise man, is it really wise to let him go? What if he tells the Ice Elves where we are at?"

A local asked with a look of worry, but then Raz’Behemot just smacked him in the head, which looked like it stung a little.

"You fool. That boy was a God of War. I took a look at his soul, and it was like a burning meteor hurtling through space.

"It should be the Ice Elves that need to be scared about him."

Raz’Behemot said, and then started walking back to the underground village but then saw the unconscious Ra’Gah.

"And bring that fool too."

...

Fang Raon peeked his head out of the snow and then climbed out of the pipe—returning back to the surface.

It was again really, really cold.

It was much warmer down at the underground—strangely warm—like they were sitting on top of something warm, like a geothermal vent.

’Where winter crows gather, and where snow falls...’

Fang Raon kicked the air and jumped high in the air, and he looked around the winter wonderland.

In that moment.

He saw something far in the distance—snowy crows circling above the forest—and snow was mainly falling there.

Swoosh~!

At that moment, blue-feathered arrows flew through the air—as soon as he revealed himself, the Ice Elves were ready to shoot him.

Fang Raon drew his Blackest Blade and parried the blue-feathered arrows out of the air.

He saw where the arrows came from.

He kicked the air behind him, propelled through the air, and then smashed into the ground, and snow exploded all around him.

The trees shook around him.

"Agh!"

One of the Ice Elves slipped out of the tree and grabbed the hanging tree branch—he looked like usual elves, dangerously beautiful, but had cold-looking eyes with frozen eyebrows and a hostile gaze.

Unlike normal elves, Ice Elves were just evil and cold.

Fang Raon threw the black blade towards him, and it flew straight through the head of the Ice Elf.

"Return!"

The Return Weapon Ring in one of his fingers shone, and the Blackest Blade returned to his hand.

More arrows came from the depths of the winter forest, and Fang Raon raised his sword and deflected them.

"Aurel’s Silent Death Sonata!"

Fang Raon used the Blackest Blade as a violin, and haunting but beautiful music ran throughout the forest.

Ice Elves heard it. They lowered their weapons. They just listened to the song like they couldn’t help it.

In that moment.

Their noses started bleeding. Their eyes began bleeding. Their bodies trembled. And then, they fell to the ground, completely overwhelmed by the enchanting melody.

Dead!

’Almost.’

Fang Raon thought.

Then, he opened his chat window, thought about sending a message to Xiao Yue, but then saw something strange.

She wasn’t on his friend list anymore!

’What is going on?’

Fang Raon narrowed his eyes.

He had thought that she had been acting strangely around him for a while now, but this confirmed it.

She sent him here to die!

’Why would she do this?’

Fang Raon honestly felt hurt.

It was like a knife was stabbed into his back, and someone was twisting it, just because they enjoyed it.

’I won’t die here.’

Fang Raon thought with a cold look and started walking deeper into the winter forest, following the sight of the winter crows.

He was getting closer, and the closer he got to the King of the Ice Elves, the colder it was getting, like a chill was seeping into his bones.

...

Xiao Yue looked at the friend list in front of her—she just removed Fang Raon from her friends—and she then waved her hand.

The window in front of her disappeared.

’You womanizer... This is what you get... Why did this happen to me again... I am not falling for it anymore... Never again...’

Xiao Yue hugged her knees and remembered the days back in school, when something scarily similar happened to her.

She regretted ever trusting that person back then... who acted kind but was a piece of shit in the end...

She was not going to make the same mistake.

...

"Ugh... Ugh..."

Ice Elf struggled on the ground, as there was a blade stuck in his throat, and he tried clawing at the man that stood over him.

Fang Raon twisted the blade in his chest, finally killing him, and then he took off his winter coat and put it on.

Then he covered his face with the hood of the winter coat.

He was now wearing the exact same thing that the Ice Elves were wearing—a white winter coat with a fluffy-looking hoodie and a pair of matching gloves.

It did make him look like he was one of them, except if his face got discovered.

He perched on top of a tree and looked towards the distance—he could see the village of the Ice Elves.

It was tucked right at the heart of the forest.

Winter crows were cawing and cawing at the sky, and the snow kept falling straight down at the village.

Many Ice Elves were walking down the streets. The buildings were shacks made of wood, and the roofs were made of dried leaves and branches.

Only Ice Elves could live like this because the cold didn’t impact them even in the slightest.

’Let’s find the king.’

Fang Raon hopped off the tree and then slowly made his way through the trees and came across the village gates.

There were Ice Elves stationed on top of the wooden watchtowers, and when they saw him, they didn’t react.

The gates were open—like they always were—so he just walked straight in.

"Hob, to woeld aalwraml, dad buw noo embvudb am rwo aulonr?"

In that moment, some of the Ice Elves, on top of the watchtowers, tried speaking to him with strange language.

It was elvish, but of course he couldn’t understand a word that they were saying.

’Uhh, if I don’t do something, they will find me suspicious.’

Fang Raon remembered the words and used Read to try to understand the deeper meaning behind those words.

While he couldn’t tell what he was talking about, maybe he could find out whether it sounded like a question or just a simple greeting.

’It did sound like a question. His tone turned high-pitched at the end, like he was adding a question mark at the end.’

Fang Raon didn’t show his face, but he just shook his head, as it was easier to just nod his head or shake his head to question.

Answers to questions were usually a no or yes.

Ice Elf looked at him briefly, then shrugged his shoulders, and returned back to keeping watch.

’It seemed to have worked.’

Fang Raon kept his head down and kept walking down the street, and then he looked towards the end of the village.

The largest building was there. It had even three floors. It was built with more attention—enough to even keep cold away from indoors.

’That’s where the King must be. I don’t want to cause commotion, so if possible, I’d like to assassinate him.’

Fang Raon thought, but assassinating a Floor Boss wasn’t an easy task—even for players that are part of the Assassin class!

He was just a warrior—he didn’t have Stealth skills!
