Beast Bonding System: Cutting Ties In A Post Apocalyptic World.
Chapter 413: I am done.
Hunter and Zyra fell silent, processing the shock in their minds. They could not put a finger on what answers they had been expecting, but both of them knew that it was not this.
"Sabrina Kaelion had an affair with a Somnivore!" Zyra muttered. "This sounds like something out of a fiction novel. My God, Hunter, this cannot get out. People will crucify your family if they learn of it."
The heavy cell door creaked open, and a stern guard stepped inside. "Time’s up. We need to take the prisoner to her holding area for the trial."
Zyra nodded, stepping back with Hunter as the guard hauled the dazed Trinity to her feet. Reluctantly, Zyra watched the former divine maiden being hauled out, wishing she could give the woman a quick execution before she said the wrong things.
But as she couldn’t carry out vigilante justice, all she could do was send the grand elder a recording of the questioning. The old man would have to make sure that Trinity was not asked any dangerous questions.
As they walked out of the dim prison into the bright sunlight, Zyra couldn’t stop the wheel of thoughts spinning in her mind. Deep down, she had a strong, nagging feeling that there were still a lot of missing puzzle pieces in this crazy story... pieces that even Trinity had been completely blind to. Her mother knew sensitive information and there was no way that Sabrina would have let her roam around with that ten-year deadline. What if all this had something to do with her mother’s disappearance?
She would have to make the grand elder question Trinity on this, before the woman was executed. Zyra sighed. She couldn’t believe she had been too engrossed in Hunter’s background that she forgot about her own questions!
Hunter tapped Zyra’s shoulder gently, jolting her out of her deep thoughts. "Well... looks like we’re back to square one."
Zyra shook her head, turning to him with a serious look. "Not completely! At least now we know the truth_ there was no artificial insemination or frozen lab sample. Your mother had a full-blown affair with a real Somnivore. Your father even knows about your existence. I wonder if her ever tried to reach out."
Hunter let out a loud, heavy sigh, feeling utterly defeated. They began walking side by side down path leading to the exit from the prison. The one urgent thought racing through Hunter’s mind was to go straight to his father Horas and break the news.
He desperately hoped this wild truth would finally open Horas’ eyes and shatter whatever bizarre love voodoo spell Sabrina had cast over him for all these years. Even if Sabrina was a soul maiden entitled to multiple husbands, she was not entitled to an extramarital affair.
Suddenly, rapid, heavy footsteps echoed behind them. "Make way! Move aside, please!"
Hunter naturally turned his head to look back, only to freeze instantly. Walking limply in the middle of a tight squad of heavily armed guards was his mother, Sabrina. Hunter tore his eyes away from her hateful glare, his gaze dropping to the heavy, rusted iron chains binding her wrists all the way down to her ankles.
He let out a cold sneer and casually looked the other way, completely ignoring her presence.
That single, dismissive sneer utterly enraged Sabrina! Her eyes turned blood-red with fury. She let out an animalistic growl and slammed her shoulder violently into the guard walking beside her.
"Hey! Stop her!"
Chaos erupted in the air! Chains rattled frantically, guards stumbled over each other, and during the wild commotion, Sabrina’s hands moved like a striking viper. She snatched a high-caliber heavy handgun right out of a guard’s holster!
Sabrina screeched like a demon, pulling the trigger frantically as she aimed at shot multiple times.
Sparks flew everywhere, smoke filled the air, and guards screamed as they dived onto the ground. But before a single bullet could touch Hunter, Zyra lunged forward, stepping right in front of him like an unbreakable wall. Shining green scales instantly erupted across her skin!
The heavy bullets slammed against Zyra’s scaled chest and bounced right off, clattering harmlessly onto the stone floor like tiny metal pebbles.
Then, the gunshots suddenly stopped.
The smoke cleared to reveal Sabrina collapsing onto the cold ground in a rapidly expanding pool of blood. In the wild struggle for the weapon, a nervous guard’s firearm had discharged straight into her chest and stomach! She lay there twitching, her breathing heavy, shallow, and ragged.
A female guard who happened to be a Soul Maiden frantically rushed over, pressing her glowing, spirit-infused hands against Sabrina’s gushing chest wound. "Quick! Help me carry her to the hospital! I don’t even know if she’ll make it through the next five minutes!"
The guards frantically scooped up the bleeding Sabrina and sprinted for the prison doors, screaming for medics.
While everyone was panicking, a loud, unhinged laugh suddenly echoed from the holding cell nearby.
"Hahahaha! Oh, this is glorious!" Trinity screamed. "I hope you die, bitch! I hope you choke on your own blood. I will meet you in death, Sabrina. Hahaha!"
Trinity’s laughter spiraled higher and higher into full-blown, unhinged insanity. The Oath Sap’s brutal side effects had officially kicked in!
"I am the Empress of the earth! Bow down to my mystical cabbage army!" Trinity bellowed, her glossy eyes rolling in completely different directions. She was struggling against the hold of the female guards who were holding both of her arms. When two male guards rushed over to check on her, Trinity suddenly reached her arms with lightning speed and aggressively grabbed both guards straight in their private parts!
"Ahh! my junk!"
"Let go, you crazy woman! Let go!"
The two burly, heavily armored guards squealed like terrified piglets, squirming and slapping at her hands in absolute agony while Trinity cackled like a manic witch. She couldn’t use Soul energy anymore, but she still had her natural born strength, like every other Soul maiden.
Zyra and Hunter exchanged a silent, horrified look. The Oath Sap madness was definitely real, and it was not pretty.
Ignoring the circus happening behind them, Zyra turned Hunter around and frantically traced her hands all over his chest and arms, checking for any stray injuries. "Are you hit?! Did a bullet graze you?!"
Hunter gently caught her hands in his, lifting her fingers to his lips to plant a soft, sweet kiss on them. "Hey, I’m completely fine. Thanks to my invincible scaled wife." He managed a small, wry smirk. "Well... at least I can officially check ’getting shot at by my own mother’ off my bucket list."
Zyra smiled ruefully, shaking her head. "That isn’t funny at all, Hunter."
She looked back one last time, at the prison doors. A trail of blood led to them. From the looks of things, she severely doubted there was going to be any trial today_ or anytime soon for both women.
Zyra leaned in close and whispered, "Once Sabrina heals up in the hospital, we can just use a tiny dose of the Oath Sap on her. We’ll force her to spill the exact name of your Somnivore father once and for all."
Hunter stared at the blood-stained ground for a long moment, then slowly shook his head. "No," he said softly, a look of profound peace settling over his tired face. "I’m done searching, Zyra. There’s no need anymore."
