Beast Bonding System: Cutting Ties In A Post Apocalyptic World.
Chapter 349: Worst naming ceremony ever.
The naming ceremony did not go well because the beasts rejected the names that Zyra came up with and to be honest, she was not sure to remember them either. She just kept going because it was a light and fun moment that only strengthened the relationship between not just her but the other workers too and the beasts.
Her primary mistake had been attempting to give dignified titles to beasts that lived in identical, chaos-driven packs_ and assuming any of them would accept her absolute garbage taste.
Scotty passed around the refreshment cart, treating the beasts like passengers in a plane! He even gave them options of flavors, like a flight hostess asking, ’chicken or beef?’
"I am loving this place already." A deer that had just received some crisp, apple juice declared.
The hyena next to it nodded, "The ducks over there said that it is some kind of beast hotel, they said that now that we are here, we will never want to leave, and I have to say they were right. Nobody is hunting us. We don’t have to live in a cage, and we don’t have to be forced to breed so that humans have endless meat."
The deer whispered, "I heard they treat us kings around here. Maybe I should have asked to be called King before Zyra decided to call me Horn one."
"You are better than me." They hyena whispered. "She named me Giggles six!! Who wants to be called Giggles?"
The two beasts exchanged gazes and squealed with laughter.
Zyra placed her hands to her hips, gesturing dramatically at a cluster of three identical bony hounds lounging by the pillar. They were identical in size, the thorns on their bodies, and currently did everything the same way. When one looked east, so did the others. When one had a sip of water, so did the others, and all at the same time! Are they triplets? she wondered.
"You," she said, pointing at the hound on the far left. "Shall be Boney."
The hound stared at her, blinked its white eyes, and let out a long, dramatic sigh that blew ash out of the pit. "Boney? How do you come up with these sketchy names?"
Before Zyra could answer, it immediately swapped places with the hound next to it. All three then began aggressively shuffling around like a live-action shell game. "Tell us boss which one is Boney?" One shouted.
The humans and beasts laughed as guessing started.
"Wait, stop," Zyra squinted. "Which one was Boney? You? The one licking the milk bowl?"
The milk bowl licking hound paused, dropped a slathering tongue from its jaw, and scoffed. "Do not insult me. I would rather be named ’Trash Can’ than Boney. In fact, call me Trash Can. It has character. It implies potential. Boney sounds like I eat bones."
"Trash can?" The Raven squawked. "Hey trash, why do you stink?"
The beasts rolled over with laughter.
"Boney is way better than Trash can." Tyrant chimed in.
"But I hate Boney more!" The hound shouted.
"Fine! No Boney...Trash can it is! Trash can 1, 2 and 3." Zyra declared, throwing her hands up.
The three hounds looked up in unison, letting out a synchronized, deeply offended groan.
"That is a beast rights violation, I don’t want to be called Trashcan or assigned a number. I heard that is how humans are called in their prisons." one grumbled.
Undeterred, Zyra turned her attention upward. Hovering above her head was a swarm of seven small, identical razor-bats. They looked like terrified squishy leather walnuts with needle-sharp teeth.
"Right. The Flying Squad," Zyra announced, pointing at the hovering cluster. "Starting from the left: Fluffy, Puffy, Scruffy, Duffy, Muffy_"
A bat in the middle emitted a high-pitched screech and dropped a half-eaten glowing beetle directly into her hair.
"Fluffy?!" the bat squeaked, its tiny voice trembling with pure, unadulterated rage. "I have teeth designed to sever arteries! My wings carry the whisper of doom! I am Lord Blood-Drainer!"
"You’re the size of an unripe plum, lower your tone," the bat next to it snapped. "But the new boss needs her eyes checked. ’Puffy’? If you call me Puffy again, I will lay an egg in your left face."
"Bats don’t lay eggs!" One shrieked, doing an angry mid-air barrel roll.
"She doesn’t know that!" It squeaked back, aggressively clapping his tiny wings. "It’s a psychological threat!"
Hunter leaned towards Zyra. "Looks like the new batch of flyers is going to be troublesome. I can’t understand what they are saying, but I can hear the sniggers and squeals. They remind me of the dragon snakes. For sure, they are going to be trouble."
"You think! They already are." Zyra said, adding a chuckle.
She wheezed, ducking as the swarm erupted into a chaotic airborne screaming match. "Alright guys we will figure it out another time. "
Turning back to business, Zyra closed her eyes and tapped into her system interface. "Beauty identify which of these beasts have the potential for emperor level evolution right now.
A crisp, metallic voice echoed in her mind.
[ Host, please activate Soul Sight for that.]
Zyra initiated the skill. A faint, golden light washed over her irises, and her eyes roamed from one beast to another, reading the glowing lines of natural potential surrounding their bodies. Once she saw the bright aura around a select few, she stepped forward and pulled them aside one by one.
"Three tailed fox, Stone salamander, Iron-hide rhino, Grey Wolf_ and Kitty."
A tiny, snow-white cat with a single black spot over its right eye blinked. It raised a small, fluffy paw, pointed it at its own chest, and let out an uncertain squeak. "Me?"
Zyra nodded. "Yes, you, Kitty."
The cat’s ears flattened immediately. It puffed out its small chest, placed its paws on its hips, and meowed in a surprisingly sassy, refined voice: "Lady, are you blind? Do not ’kitty’ me ever again, I am a male. I can reluctantly prove it right now."
Zyra gasped before bursting into a hearty chuckle. "Alright, alright, calm down sir."
Shaking her head in amusement, she summoned the system in her head again. "Beauty, hand over the Evolution Pills."
[ Host, you only have 3 pills left in your current inventory, ] the system promptly replied.
Zyra scoffed out loud. "Nice try. Or did you conveniently forget that I currently have one month of free, unlimited access to the system shop and everything is on discount?"
Beauty rolled her eyes dramatically and crossed her tiny arms.
[ _Fine. I was just testing your memory] Beauty huffed.
"Right, sure you were," Zyra smirked.
