The news spread like wildfire. The story flying around the city was that the Kaelion driver had gone rogue and had held Lita at knife point, trying to extort money after discovering that Master Elliot had blessed her with a limitless black card.

Lita had made sure to loudly repeat this outside the police station, where reporters were always lurking, in search for scandals and breaking news. Anything on the Kaelions lately was a hot topic, and this did not prove any different.

In the main hall of their capital home, Elliot was absolutely livid. Smoke was practically pouring out of his ears. He had rushed back from the stadium on hearing the news. His concern was not his beloved wife, of course, it was the child in her womb and he made it clear.

"Fools! Absolute incompetence!" Elliot roared, slamming a tea table into splinters. "My concern is the child! The one that carries the Kaelion bloodline! Take my wife back to the Kaelion estate immediately! Guard her with your lives if you have to. She had no business following me here for the tournament anyway." How would he hook up with women that were worthy of him when he had a pregnant wife following him around?

Lita sat on the couch crying as aunts, cousins and other female relatives comforted her.

Meanwhile, in a guest room, in that same house, Teddy was sitting on her bed, her head spinning with confusion. She locked her door, pulled out the phone and replayed the footage of the beat down.

She scrubbed the video back, cranked up the audio artifact, and listened critically. Through the chaotic noise of frying pans hit against Jimmy’s skull, she heard his desperate voice clearly:

"She’s doing this because of my baby!"

Teddy frowned, her brow furrowing deep enough to hold a coin. "What baby?_ Wait_" She winced, biting violently down on her thumb nail as her brain frantically joined the glowing dots.

Elliot was widely rumored across the world to be completely impotent. He had dated many women but only Lita had ever conceived. Some people were already calling it a miraculous conception.

Teddy’s eyes widened. The baby that Jimmy meant, could it be the same one that Lita was carrying!" She made a conclusion quickly. One that made her widen her eyes and gasp.

"HAHAHAHA!" Teddy burst into a wild, triumphant laugh, slapping her knee. "Oh, you silly slut, Lita! The pieces all fit! This is unbelievable! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, she is just like her mother."

Just as she was cackling, the door burst open. Samuel walked in, looking like he had just swallowed a toad. He was red-faced and furious.

"What are you laughing at?!" Samuel hissed angrily. "Are you not aware what my daughter is going through? If anything had happened to Lita out there, my only golden ticket into the Kaelion inner circle would be wiped out! I told you to keep an eye on her! Do you have any idea what’s at stake?"

Teddy scoffed, leaning back on her pillows with a smug, self-satisfied grin. "Oh, relax, dear husband. Sit down. You’re going to want to hear this."

She motioned him over and laid it all out_ from the secret meeting with the shady guy to the full video footage of Jimmy’s beat down. She played the audio right at the part where Jimmy screamed about the pregnancy, watching Samuel’s face turn from angry red to ghost white.

Samuel stood there, completely shell-shocked. He felt the vision of his glorious, wealthy future and first-class noble status slipping right through his numb fingers.

"So," Teddy continued brightly, her eyes flashing with ambition, "here’s the plan. We use this secret to black mail Lita! We keep her on a short leash, make her dance to our tune, and we get a cut of everything the Kaelions give her! Brilliant, right?"

Samuel pinched his lips, his heart pounding in his chest. Blackmail? Is she out of her mind?! If Elliot finds out we knew and tried to play him, he’ll wipe our whole family off the map!

He stared at his young wife coldly. He came to realize in that terrifying instant that he couldn’t trust a single soul with a secret this dangerous. Especially not Teddy, whose brain was clearly filled with half-baked, suicidal schemes.

Teddy sighed, standing up and smoothing down her robes. "Anyway, I’m going to go down and check on our dear, pregnant daughter Lita." She chuckled, "Pray that I can keep my lips sealed." She said as she chuckled again.

"Right_ good idea," Samuel said, his voice strangely flat. He nodded slowly. "I’ll walk with you."

They stepped out of the room. No sooner had Teddy taken two steps toward the top of the marble staircase when Samuel made his move. He leaned forward, put both hands against her shoulder blades, and gave a big, desperate shove.

Teddy gasped as she pitched forward, plunging headfirst down the long flight of stairs.

Samuel didn’t waste a second. He immediately retreated back into his room, closed the door softly, leaped onto his bed, pulled the silk blanket over his nose, and closed his eyes tightly, heart hammering against his ribs like a war drum.

He waited. One second. Three seconds. Five seconds_

"Aaaaahhhh! Help! Someone help! Mrs. Teddy has fallen down the stairs!" An alarming scream echoed from the hallway.

Samuel waited another three seconds for effect, then threw off his blanket, messy-haired his own hair, and burst out of the room with a look of pure, unadulterated horror painted across his face.

"Teddy! My beloved wife!" Samuel shrieked at the top of his lungs, sprinting out into the corridor alongside the panicked servants.

He slid to his knees at the top of the landing, clutching his head in fake agony, tears miraculously brimming in his eyes. "What happened?! How could this be?! Someone call the doctor! If my sweet, innocent Teddy dies, I will go to the underworld to bring her back myself."

He threw his hands to the heavens, sobbing loudly, while mentally crossing his fingers that the fall had taken her last breath or he would have to finish what he started in another way.
