Lita sat slumped on a plush, velvet sofa in the mansion’s main lounge, clutching her head like it was about to explode. Lately, her body had been completely out of order. Beyond the blinding headaches, she had been plagued by sudden bouts of nausea, an overwhelming fatigue that made her feel like a dead branch, and a bizarre, burning sensitivity in her chest. To make matters worse, Sabrina had ordered her to go to the capital, refusing to hear a single complaint about her illness.

As if her physical misery wasn’t enough, the private investigator she’d hired was proving to be useless. She had paid the man a small fortune to track down her biological father, yet he had come back with nothing so far. It was as if the man who provided half of the genes which resulted in her, was a ghost who had vanished into thin air!

She looked around the lounge, her frustration mounting. The villa was undoubtedly one of the top luxury estates in the capital, boasting grand marble pillars, intricate carvings on the ceiling, and windows overlooking a beautiful light blue lake. But all this elegance meant nothing to Lita right now. Why? Because the insufferable Kaelion in-laws had been invited to stay under the very same roof.

This place was not as big as the main estate, so the house was a little too crowded for her liking.

Picking up an outdated fashion magazine from the glass coffee table, Lita began fanning herself furiously, trying to blow away the heat in her chest.

"Lita! My darling daughter!"

A voice dripping with fake affection echoed across the lounge. Lita closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and plastered the most artificial smile humanly possible onto her face.

It was her father, Samuel. They hadn’t been on good terms since_ well, forever, but with so many eyes around, they had to act out this pathetic drama of a loving family. Lita did not think that he would actually be shameless enough to come here. But here he was!

After an exchange of overly polite, completely empty greetings_ during which Lita treated Samuel’s new wife, Teddy, as if she were made of pure oxygen, Lita volunteered to escort Samuel to his guest quarters. She didn’t rush to throw a tantrum because she knew what the consequences would be if she dared.

As they walked down the corridor, Samuel’s eyes were practically bulging out of his sockets. He was utterly mesmerized by the estate.

"Goodness me! Look at this trim! Look at those dragon snake-scale lamps!" Samuel babbled, his mouth practically watering. "The Kaelion family’s wealth is simply boundless! Absolute genius!"

Lita walked beside him, her jaw clenched so tight her teeth almost cracked. Enjoy it while you can, old man, she thought bitterly. The second I find my real father; I am cutting ties with you so fast your head will spin. And I am definitely killing you. If three people know a secret, then it’s practically breaking news.

Suddenly, the world around her tilted. A wave of dizziness slammed into her brain, making her vision blur. She staggered sideways, her knees giving out.

Before she could hit the marble floor, a pair of hands caught her. It was Teddy, the sixth person she hated the most in the world.

Samuel turned around, saw them, and immediately sneered, clearly thinking Lita was just being dramatic. Teddy, however, didn’t scoff. She stared at Lita with a strange, suspicious glint in her eyes. Without warning, Teddy reached out and jabbed her hand right against Lita’s upper chest.

"Ouch! What is wrong with you?!" Lita winced in sharp pain, violently leaning backward and staring at Teddy like she had completely lost her mind. "Have you lost your marbles? How dare you touch my breast?"

Instead of apologizing, Teddy gasped, let out a joyful laugh, and clapped her hands together toward the ceiling. "Oh, what a wonderful thing." She whipped her head toward Samuel. "Honey, our daughter is pregnant!"

Lita’s face darkened in an instant. Her sneer could have curdled milk. "Don’t you dare call me ’our daughter’, shameless woman! Keep your mouth shut!"

But Samuel didn’t care about the insult. He didn’t even notice Lita’s rage. The moment the word pregnant hit his ears, his soul practically left his body out of sheer excitement. A grandchild! A child with Kaelion blood! His status in the capital was about to shoot straight into the clouds! This child would be the next heir of the Kaelion clan. Maybe even the leader of their nation, someday.

He could almost see the paperwork for his first-class citizenship being signed already.

His son with Teddy would be a great man working for this child. This precious Kaelion child.

Samuel rushed forward, grabbing Lita’s hands with an eager, terrifyingly sweet smile. "Oh, my precious Lita! My wonderful, pride-and-joy of a daughter! You have truly outdone yourself! You are the light of our family, the pride of my entire lineage! A true blessing from the ancestors!"

Lita felt like she was going to throw up right then and there. "Get off me!" She scoffed, yanked her hands out of his grip, and shoved him away. She glared at him as if he were the most repulsive scum on earth, turned on her heel, and marched away while Samuel continued shouting sweet, sugary nonsense behind her.

He didn’t care how she reacted, or how she felt about him, only that he benefited.

Lita practically threw herself into her bedroom, slamming the door shut and locking it. Her heart was hammering so loudly in her chest it sounded like a war drum in her ears. She leaned her back against the cool wooden door, sliding down until her knees hit the floor. Cold sweat broke out across her forehead.

She was scared to death. Pregnant?! No... no, no, no!

There was one giant, catastrophic problem if she was truly pregnant: the baby was not Elliot’s! Her legal husband hadn’t touched a single hair on her head since they got married!

This baby belonged to Jimmy.

But how could it have happened when she took all precautions? Her chest heaved as her mind spun into a chaotic whirlwind. Panic surged through her like wild electricity. I have to terminate it. Right now. Today! Before anyone notices or before a belly starts showing!

Grabbing her purse with trembling hands, Lita unlocked the door and bolted out toward the main doors. But she barely made it three steps into the hallway before Teddy magically materialized out of nowhere, blocking her path with open arms.

"Oh, my dear! You absolutely cannot go out onto those noisy, rowdy streets in your delicate condition!" Teddy yelled at the top of her lungs, ensuring her voice echoed through the entire foyer.
