The wind howled through the ruined town, carrying the sharp scent of roasted sea beast meat and foul beast odor of the transport beasts which had carried the cannibals into the town.

Behind the crumbled remains of a ruined wooden house, Solange and Lucian squatted in the mud, peeking through a crack in the broken wall.

"Look," Lucian whispered, his voice tense. "The guy looking for the soul maidens drew his weapons."

"So what?" Solange muttered, wiping sweat from her forehead. This was not a fight they could join. The man on the black horse looked dangerous, and so did the one that broke Adrian’s hand. The only one who seemed out of place was the woman by his side. She was probably going to end up as a victim of this battle.

"So that’s my signal!" Lucian grinned, pulling a long wooden arrow from his quiver. He pulled back the bowstring with a quiet creak and aimed straight through the gap.

Solange stared at him like he had lost his mind. "What on earth are you doing? You do not plan to join this fight, now do you?"

Lucian didn’t even look at her. "If you can’t take the heat, woman go find a hole and hide in it. They are two against what_ 60?"

"You don’t have to tell me twice!" Solange hissed. She didn’t hesitate for a single second. She turned around, ducked low, and vanished into the shadows of the ruins like a scared rabbit.

The bowstring snapped forward. The arrow cut through the air and struck Campbell straight in the middle of his chest with a whistle like sound.

Everyone froze for a moment, as they did not expect a sudden secret attack, especially not one that looked successful!

"The commander has been shot!" a cannibal yelled, his eyes wide with horror.

Instantly, the entire clearing exploded into pure chaos!

"Kill them! We eat them and their young alive!" the cannibals screamed, waving their rusty axes and blades.

The malevolent beasts and their drooling jaws_ snarled and charged forward. One medium sized black hound leaped high into the air, its sharp teeth snapping shut right on Cain’s shoulder!

"Aaahh! My son! Some of us are on your side! We are not on the side of those who attacked. Don’t kill us." Master Zoo shrieked in horror. But instead of running forward to save his own child, the old coward turned on his heel, grabbed his wife’s hand and ran for his life into the nearest house. "Hold on, son! Daddy will pray for you. I will come back for you!"

Cain cursed as he watched his mother and father abandon him. "Cowards! The both of you." He began to run but fell suddenly, his body twitching as if he had been electrocuted.

Meanwhile, Zyra didn’t waste a single heartbeat. "I will lock them first!" she barked.

She whipped out a lock gun and pulled the trigger. In less than two seconds, every single jumping beast was slammed to the ground, completely frozen in place like heavy stone statues. Even the hound that had bitten Cain dropped like a sack of potatoes, its jaws locked tight.

The cannibals stopped dead in their tracks, staring at their frozen beasts in complete shock.

"What_ why aren’t they moving?!" one cannibal stammered, poking a frozen beast with his spear. "Hey! Wake up, doggy!"

The others paused their roars and stepped back. Without their beasts to tank the damage, the cannibals were suddenly feeling very naked and very weak.

From the center of the spattering mud, Campbell clutched the arrow stuck in his chest, blood oozing through his fingers. His face was twisted in rage. "Forget the damn beats, I want them dead, shoot them all. Leave no one alive!" He ordered his men as two pulled him back. glancing at a transport beast. They clearly meant to escape.

The cannibals snapped out of their shock and raised their weapons and guns, opening fire all at once. A hail of arrows and bullets rained down on Zyra and Hunter.

"System, give me an X-Shield! Now!" Zyra shouted inside her mind.

[Ding! Upgraded X-Shield Activated!]

A big, transparent honeycomb barrier exploded into existence right in front of Zyra.

"Hunter, stay within the barrier!" she yelled.

Hunter didn’t argue. He ducked smoothly behind her back, his eyes sharp as a hawk. "Thanks, wifey," he muttered. He reached into his belt, pulled out three small, pulse shards, and hurled them over the top of the shield. "Take a bite of this!"

The three pulse shards detonated right above the frozen beasts. The blast didn’t just explode_ it broke into dozens of tiny, razor-sharp pieces that spun through the air like a deadly blender.

In less than three seconds, the heads of the malevolent beasts and several cannibals were chopped clean off, rolling across the dirt.

The remaining cannibals turned pale. One guy actually dropped his gun.

"What kind of sorcery is this?!" the cannibal cried out, his voice cracking. "Who are these people?! What are those weapons?!"

They weren’t the only ones watching with their jaws on the floor.

Far off in the high trees of Twigs Blue Crossing, a group of sneering men dressed in dark grey armor were crouching in the thick leaves. They were top scouts sent by Tobias from Hollomgad. They had waited for an hour for the first group to set out before following, and they were glad they had done so.

"If these bastards are here, it means that our comrades are dead." The leader of the squad said.

"Sir_ are you seeing this?" one scout whispered, rubbing his eyes. "That girl just made a barrier wall out of thin air!"

"Shut up and record it!" the scout leader hissed, pulling out a phone. "Crown Keeper Tobias needs to see every second of this. Don’t miss a single detail!"

Back on the battlefield, two figures shot out from a window of the storage shed where the maidens were locked inside. It was Etania and Claudia!

"Ahhh, my head is finally clear!" Claudia laughed, stretching her arms. The serum Zyra had given them had completely wiped out the nasty paralytic drug in their blood. They felt stronger than ever!

"Let’s clean up this trash!" Etania shouted.

Etania and Claudia raised their hands together and formed a cyclone blade. A fierce blast of sharp, spinning wind swept across the ground, throwing ten cannibals into the air like dry leaves.

While the enemies were tossed upside down in the wind, Hunter moved like a ghost. His twin daggers flashed in the night light, cutting down three enemies before they even hit the mud. In his opinion, this was the easiest battle he had ever been involved in.
