Back to the 80s: Raising my Wolfy Boyfriend
Chapter 888: The Darwin Family’s Farewell Ceremony
In this lifetime, An Feng had weathered great storms and endured many hardships, until she finally met Jerry, and at last found the right person.
She had been through several relationships; Jerry had low emotional intelligence, and when the two of them collided, many interesting things happened, along with a few harmless little misunderstandings.
These small misunderstandings were all dispelled because of the sincere feelings they had for each other.
An Feng spoke on and off, her face at times lit with happiness, at times tinged with nostalgia, at times shadowed with sorrow.
An Mingji and Gu Jin sat at her side, quiet listeners.
As she went on, her voice grew softer and softer, and the abnormal flush on her face gradually faded.
They all understood that An Feng’s time had come.
Outside the window, in the dark sky, a few pale streaks of light were emerging in the East.
In the utterly silent residential compound, in this city brimming with hidden life, most people were still deep in sleep, awaiting the arrival of a beautiful new day.
Until the pale light in the East gradually sharpened, and An Feng’s voice came to a stop.
An Mingji held her hand as it slowly grew cold, his body and heart temperature both plummeting.
It wasn’t as if he had never touched a corpse before, yet this was the first time he realized that once a person lost all vitality, the cold of the body could make a heart tremble.
It was so cold, so cold his whole body was shaking.
It had been a long time since he had felt this kind of helplessness, loneliness, and sense of being abandoned.
Back when his father and grandmother died, though he had been heartsick, grief-stricken, and helpless, the sadness had never been as sharp as it was now.
The departure of a loved one would be a farewell for the rest of this life.
All the Darwin Family servants who had followed An Feng from Italy had gathered in the main hall, standing in well-drilled formation under the butler’s lead.
At the moment An Feng’s eyes closed, the butler was the first to lift his right hand, place it on his left shoulder, and bend at a ninety-degree angle.
"Madam!"
A cry rose up, grief-stricken and edged with sobs.
"Madam—"
"Madam—"
All the servants bowed in turn.
They were not from Hua Country and did not practice the rite of kneeling in obeisance.
An Mingji and Gu Jin sat by An Feng’s side, their faces already streaked with tears.
An Feng could no longer hold their hands; her icy fingers, which still held a trace of warmth just minutes ago, were now colder than ice itself.
They did not let go of An Feng’s hand.
An Mingji gripped her hand, bending over, crying in utter silence; apart from the slight trembling of his body, no one could see just how much pain and sorrow this young man was in.
When Allen and the others learned that Madam Darwin had passed away, he led all his men, weapons at their sides, to stand downstairs in tight rows.
The darkness shrouding the earth in the East had already lifted, and a pale light showed at the edge of the sky.
Allen looked up toward the floor where Madam was, and shouted loudly, "Prepare!"
He raised the gun in his hand high, aiming it toward the sky.
The men behind him all followed suit, lifting the weapons in their hands.
"Bang!"
A gunshot without a silencer rang out.
Immediately after came a dense, fierce burst of weapons fire.
"Bang bang bang—"
"Bang bang bang bang bang—"
"Bang bang bang bang bang—"
Bullets were fired as though they cost nothing.
The intense volley of gunfire shattered the stillness before dawn.
All the residents of Left Bank Pavilion were jolted awake by the fierce gunshots.
They blinked open drowsy eyes, fear flashing across their faces at once; some thought an earthquake had struck and hurried to flee for their lives, with people already rushing out the door.
Others, who could clearly tell that the sound was wrong, went to their windows and looked down.
They saw a crowd of men standing densely together below, whose hair color and the irises of their eyes made it obvious they were foreigners.
