Chapter 1992 - 1994: Neighbors
Chapter 1992: Chapter 1994: Neighbors
Chunhua’s words left everyone a bit silent, the room grew quiet, and the atmosphere carried a hint of melancholy sorrow.
"Oh, come on, look at you all, playing the sentimental little girl card. Nowadays, transportation is more and more convenient, meeting up isn’t hard at all!" Cheng Su teased with a smile: "Come on, pour the wine, I’ll serve everyone."
She stood up, picked up the red wine that had been breathing for a while, and poured it into the wine glasses, giving each person a glass.
"You just said to always keep a youthful heart, and now you’re not letting us feel a bit sentimental?" Hualing retorted.
Cheng Su said, "That’s thinking positively, I’m just moving houses, only to another city, not leaving the country."
"With your current progress, going abroad is just a matter of saying the word!"
Cheng Su swirled the wine in her glass and said, "There’s a chance of me going abroad? My husband is in the military, I run a business domestically, there’s so much to do here. If I went abroad, I’d become one of those ’naked officials’!"
"What’s a naked official?" Guiying didn’t understand.
Cheng Su chuckled lightly, "It’s just a term, anyway, let’s drink, it’s rare for us to get together!"
The four glasses clinked lightly, producing a clear sound.
"Long live friendship," Cheng Su called out with a smile.
They all laughed.
The dishes were served gradually, and Cheng Su urged everyone to start eating.
"These dishes look more and more exquisite," Hualing tasted a bite and said, "This reminds me of when this was just a small restaurant, and we’d eat outside in the courtyard! Now it’s become a famous grand restaurant!"
"Yes, yes, when you say it like that, I remember too!" Chunhua agreed, exclaiming, "In the blink of an eye, a few years have passed, and we’ve all become mothers!"
"Things change, people change!"
Cheng Su said, "A few years have gone by, but aren’t our days getting better? Things will get even better if we all work hard."
"You’re going to the big city, don’t forget us, your Big Boss Cheng, we’re just playing catch-up!" Hualing raised her eyebrows.
"Saying that makes me unhappy. If I forget you, there’d be only two reasons: either I lost my memory, or I went to meet Marx!" Cheng Su said mischievously.
"Spit, spit, that’s bad luck and won’t happen. Why say such inauspicious things when we’re happy?" Chunhua immediately pretended to spit out bad luck.
Cheng Su lowered her head, smiling as she sipped her drink.
"I’m serious, Cheng Su, you’ve got a knack for business, share some tips with us, let us get lucky too!" Hualing said earnestly, "You once mentioned something about maternity centers, I’m interested in starting one, tell me, how do I run it?"
"Doing business isn’t easy, it requires exhaustive efforts, and there’s far more to consider than just working for someone else. Are you sure?" Cheng Su looked at her and asked.
Hualing nodded, the ambition in her eyes was unmistakable, with Chunhua and Guiying also eager to join in.
"Then let’s chat while we eat, we have plenty of time." Cheng Su reached for her chopsticks.
"Right, right, Hualing, you don’t know, after you moved out, the peculiar and quirky people who moved in made us so frustrated..." Chunhua vented.
In the room, with one word here and another there, they talked about husbands and kids, about the mundane daily routines, about business tales, as the aroma of wine heightened their conversation.
Cheng Su listened to their laughter, watching their cheeks turn rosy from the wine, and smiled softly.
They had argued before, doubted each other before, but also helped and cared for one another, these were her neighbors and friends.
