Awakening Elementary School System in University
Chapter 252 - 2 Emails
Chapter 252 -191: 2 Emails
What was even more incredible was that this young man didn’t just have off-the-charts programming skills; he also had an incredibly solid foundation in mathematics.
He earned his bachelor’s in computer science from Huaqing University, but then went to the Science and Technology University for his master’s in mathematical statistics, with an academician from their mathematics department as his advisor.
He returned to computer science for his doctorate, earning a PhD in Computer Science and Technology from Huaqing University. After graduating, he began postdoctoral research at the National Academy of Sciences Automation Institute.
This kind of interdisciplinary talent, spanning both computer science and mathematics, was practically tailor-made for the project Chen Lin was planning!
After Chen Lin finished reading the resume, he immediately called Bai Qian. The two scheduled a meeting for next Monday morning to chat in person at Yanhai Company.
If things went well, Chen Lin planned to immediately discuss the terms of employment.
Besides Bai Qian, President Peng had also sent Chen Lin two resumes.
Chen Lin compared them carefully and ultimately chose the one with the stronger resume.
It was a powerhouse returnee named Pan Si, who held a PhD in computer science from Stanford University. After graduating, he had worked at Doggie’s AI lab for three years and participated in several major large-model projects.
Although his asking salary was higher—100,000 a month after taxes—for Chen Lin right now, that really wasn’t a problem.
Chen Lin had already scheduled an in-person meeting with Pan Si for next Tuesday at Yanhai Company.
If he could land both of them, his reserve of high-end talent for the initial phase of the AI project would be sufficient.
At this thought, the corners of Chen Lin’s mouth couldn’t help but curve into a satisfied smile.
In addition to the smooth progress with recruitment, there was also good news about his paper.
Bob, the editor at JAMS, had actually made good on his promise from the email, assembling an all-star review team composed entirely of Fields Medal laureates to evaluate Chen Lin’s paper.
The team members included Professor Figali, with whom Chen Lin had previously interacted and who was very friendly toward Huaxia; Professor Peter Schultz, with whom Chen Lin had established a good relationship at the mathematics conference; and Professor Tao Zhexuan, who had previously reviewed Chen Lin’s first paper submitted to JAMS.
The other three heavyweights were the Brazilian-born French mathematician Avila, whose main research areas were dynamical systems and mathematical physics; the Austrian mathematician Martin Hairer, who primarily studied stochastic partial differential equations; and James Mead, whose research focused on analytic number theory.
These three hadn’t attended the mathematics conference, so Chen Lin didn’t have much of an impression of them.
According to a new email Chen Lin received this morning, Bob said the review team was being incredibly efficient. He expected the entire review process to be completed within a week and told Chen Lin to wait patiently.
To put it in perspective, the normal review cycle for a top-tier journal like JAMS was at least one to two months.
“President Chen.”
A voice pulled Chen Lin from his thoughts.
Chen Lin looked up to see Sun Yu standing beside his desk.
“What is it?” Chen Lin asked. “Did we get a suitable project?”
Ever since Chen Lin had raised the per-project price from one million to five million, the number of client emails in Yanhai Company’s business inbox had indeed decreased significantly.
After all, a five-million price tag was a considerable expense for most small and medium-sized enterprises.
Clients who could afford that sum and were also genuinely facing a mathematical bottleneck were few and far between to begin with.
However, after the recent mathematics conference, the situation had changed.
The client emails in the company inbox started to increase again.
But most of them were related to AI algorithm optimization.
Moreover, these clients clearly didn’t understand Chen Lin’s actual situation.
The problems they proposed were often strongly tied to neural network programming and had a relatively weak connection to pure mathematics.
Chen Lin couldn’t really solve these kinds of problems directly at the moment.
This was one of the reasons Chen Lin was determined to develop his own artificial intelligence model as soon as possible.
Once the model was developed, he could take on all these projects.
That was a mountain of cold, hard cash!
He couldn’t just let it all slip away.
However, Sun Yu shook his head.
“It’s not about business, President Chen.”
He had a strange expression on his face, as if he didn’t quite know how to begin.
“It’s like this. Ever since the mathematics conference ended, the company inbox has been receiving a lot of very strange emails.”
“Strange emails?” Chen Lin raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
Sun Yu continued,
“Some of the emails are job applications.”
“They saw your performance at the mathematics conference, President Chen, and said they admire you greatly and want to work for the company.”
“For those emails, I’ve just followed your instructions and sent a standard reply that the company isn’t currently hiring.”
Chen Lin nodded.
“Mm, that’s the right way to handle it.”
Sun Yu’s expression grew even more peculiar.
“Then there are some other emails that are a bit more… direct.”
“They’re asking for your contact information directly.”
When Chen Lin heard this, his expression darkened.
‘What in the world?’
He rubbed his temples and said with a sigh of resignation,
“For those kinds of emails, just reject them outright.”
“Just say that the company doesn’t provide my personal contact information.”
“I know, that’s how I’ve been replying.” Sun Yu nodded. “However, there’s one email I think you might want to take a look at.”
“Hm?” Chen Lin paused. “What email?”
Sun Yu asked,
“President Chen, do you know someone named Annie Brunt?”
“Annie Brunt… Annie?”
Chen Lin froze for a moment, and then an image surfaced in his mind: a beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl who bore a striking resemblance to the actress Daddario.
