Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Meeting Both my enemies

"You said you’re going to the Killing Spree? As if it was that easy."

Said the stranger. He was looking at Rudrick with mockery in his voice.

"What do you mean, ’As if it’s that easy’?" Rudrick seems completely clueless.

"Sigh... Look. To go to the Killing Spree you must have an invite from the Noble Houses. Without it, House Drakell won’t protect you during the hunting

"How will I get this... invite?"

It seemed like the stranger had been waiting for this moment. He raised his voice proudly and said,

"I have one. But I doubt someone like you will ever get it. You seem relatively weak. Sorry for my bluntness."

The stranger said "sorry," but there was no apology in his voice But Rudrick merely smiled at him.

He stepped closer and put his hand on the stranger’s shoulder, like they were old friends. The stranger was irritated by this so he was about to slap the hand away, but suddenly Rudrick started radiating such an immense aura that made the man go stiff with fear.

"How many Waves have you unlocked?" asked Rudrick, his voice was completely calm. Deadly calm.

"What is this?... Let go of me—"

Then from within Rudrick’s sleeve, a tiny snake slithered out.

The snake looked small and weak, but before the man could react, it sank its tiny fangs into the man’s neck.

"What the fuck?!" The man flinched and slapped the snake off his neck.

"How da—"

The man started gasping. Blood began to pour from his mouth.

"W...what did you do to me?" he whimpered.

Rudrick just ignored him and took the invite from the man’s pocket. Then with the tips of his fingers, he gave the man a gentle push. But that push was enough to make him fall. He started convulsing, and then slowly, he died.

Rudrick walked away without looking back. People on the street ran up to the dead man and began looting him.

The next day.

Morgan and Beare packed their stuff and walked to the assigned meeting spot.

When they reached it, there were at least 50 different people already waiting. Morgan was surprised at how the calamities are reserved when the novel houses is involved. Everyone doesn’t want to fight or curse or anything.

While waiting, Morgan overheard people talking about him.

"That was just a boy. And he fought Angel. Damn, that made my blood boil!"

"Oh shut up, Marty. If I get a chance with that kid? I’m selling him to the Capital without a second thought," said one of the guys in the group.

The one called Marty looked ordinary. The type you’d see in Walmart.

But surprisingly, he was a Calamity.

"What! You’re gonna sell him?"

"Yes. In exchange for my freedom."

"Freedom from what? You think the Capital will let a Calamity stay? Angel will probably kill you after you hand him Morgan," said another.

"I wonder what happened to him?" asked Marty.

"Probably rotting somewhere."

"Luwen, stop. He’s my role model."

"Oh, enough with you, Marty."

Morgan smiled while watching them. If people found out he was Morgan Liues, the entire Capital and Lawless Lands would be after them.

After a while, more people arrived. The rich, the strong, people who had unlocked their Fourth Wave. The waiting gate was completely packed.

Then a guy with lush red hair came striding in on a horse.

When Morgan saw him, he froze. Because that was the guy who attacked them at the cliffside.

The son of Drakell. *Raymond of House Drakell.*

Morgan went rigid. Even Beare felt something was wrong.

"Why are you all sulky, you little shit?"

It seemed Beare called Morgan "little shit" all the time now.

"He’s the one who attacked us at the cliffside."

"What?!" Beare lowered her voice, but it still came out like a shout. Veins popped on her neck.

"That damn piece of shit tricked me!"

"What do you mean?" Morgan asked, still clueless.

"Raymond doesn’t let go of witnesses. If what you’re saying is right, then he’s the one who attacked the heir of House Slytherin. And if the House finds out... if you tell them... the entire Lawless Lands will go to war. And now if he sees you... if he sees us— Ahhh, I’m gonna kill that piece of shit!"

"Calm down, Beare. I don’t think he’ll recognize us."

"Wait!!! He’s looking this way. Hide behind me!!"

She pressed Morgan’s face into her chest so hard he could barely breathe.

When Raymond looked their way, he couldn’t see Morgan’s face, so he looked away.

Meanwhile Morgan screamed and muffled under her chest, but she just hissed,

"Quiet, you little shit!!"

After a while, she let him go.

"Ahh. You tried to choke me!"

"Oh, I tried to choke you now, little shit! I was trying to save us. Save our ass!"

"What are we gonna do now? We can’t go on the Hunting Spree like this!"

"That’s why we go home. Now!" Said Beare already turning her face towards the city.

When they turned to head back toward the City, Morgan’s face drained of color.

Rudrick was walking toward them.

"Now what?" Beare saw the sudden change and that she knew something was wrong.

"It’s Uncle Rudrick!"

"Who?"

"He’s the only one in our family who became a Calamity."

"Aside from you, that is?"

"Yes."

"So what’s that got to do with us?" Asked Beare still cluelessm

"If he’s here, then it means... he was sent to kill me."

"How the hell did you know that?!" Beare was a drunkard, but she wasn’t dumb. Just seeing Rudrick filled her with fear. She knew he had unlocked his Fourth Wave.

"Trust me." Morgan turned and gripped her hand, looking into her eyes.

"We’re in a deep—"

"Shit."

"No. Predicament. And we have to act smart, or else... it’s not gonna turn out good for us."

"So what do we do?"

"We go on this Killing Spree. If everything works out, maybe Rudrick and Raymond will start fighting each other..."

"And that would give us an opening!"

Beare’s eyes lit up with excitement. The fear was instantly gone. Typical Beare.

"And we’ll even get the chance to break th—"

"Beare. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves... okay?"

"Oh."

Raymond’s servant, or whatever he was, stood right beside him.

"WE ARE HEADING OUT NOW!"

The bodyguard shouted. Raymond was so damn prideful he wouldn’t even speak himself. After his bodyguard shouted, Raymond rode out without waiting.

Everyone started running after him.

There were other exceptional Calamities that could jump. Not short jumps.

But what was rare was a Calamity that could fly. So far only five Calamities were identified as flying types, and none of them were in the Lawless Lands.

As Morgan predicted, Rudrick was running far ahead of everyone.

What’s more, his face and entire body were covered by a black robe. His legs weren’t even visible. He was like a ghost. And he was running close to every person he could find, as if searching for something.

Morgan already saw this coming.

So Beare, who was extremely good with makeup, took her time and disguised his face.

He looked more like a ghost geisha from Japanese and Norse mythology. And his green hair was covered by a hood.

When Rudrick ran close to them, Beare was so scared and anxious she couldn’t even breathe.

But Morgan, on the other hand, kept his composure. His gaze stayed on the running horses, without paying any heed to the approaching Rudrick.
