Chapter 2065: Starting a War (4)
Arthur and Carter escaped from the city. They could not use teleportation, whether it was between worlds or between cities. There was something that caused their teleportation not to work. They thought it had something to do with the System, but then they realized that they could still send messages.
First, they ran as fast as they could to the closest city. Second, they sent messages to all Shadow Star’s members that their main base was attacked. He put the details of how the Executive Administrator was coming for them. He added instructions for those who were still in Allavaine, the name of their world, to gather the mercenaries and any other forces they could hire to take back their main base.
Lastly, they didn’t forget to report to the Ten Stars Accord that the Shadow Star was attacked. However, they didn’t specifically ask for reinforcement. He had witnessed Tang Shaoyang’s strength firsthand. Their enemy was strong, but not something the Shadow Star could not handle.
As long as they managed to gather all the forces in the Allavaine, killing Executive Administrator Tang Shaoyang was not a hard task. They underestimated him before; now they would deploy everything they had. That should be more than enough.
Arthur and Carter rested in the room by themselves, trying to calm their nerves. The golden palm didn’t leave a visible injury, but they felt sore all over their bodies.
Arthur’s heartbeat was still beating loudly, so that Carter could hear it in the same room. Arthur closed his eyes, leaning his head against the headrest on the chair. The scene of his friends getting killed replayed in his head. How Aemilia died in one shot. How helpless Rados was against Tang Shaoyang.
He could make an excuse that they let their guard down, underestimating Tang Shaoyang. However, it would take more than lowering their guards to kill his friends. They were someone with rich fighting experiences. Letting their guard down would not kill them, only if their opponent was stronger than them, for that to happen. It meant Tang Shaoyang was certainly stronger than they.
But again, there was so much for a single person to do. Even with those strong summons, Tang Shaoyang would not be able to win against the whole Shadow Star. That was what Arthur and Carter believed.
The door flung open as five people entered the room. They all wore black clothes and sat across from the two. Arthur opened his eyes while Carter looked at the five people with a pensive look.
“We need more details than just someone taking over our main base,” The figure in the middle inquired in a somber tone.
“And how could a single person take over our main base? What are you guys doing? Where are the rest of you?” The person to the right also asked, but it was not a genuine question. It was the form of mockery, telling Arthur and Carter that they were incompetent to let a single person take over the main base.
That was when Carter and Arthur opened their eyes wide in realization, getting reminded that they had left before their friends returned from the domain.
The first thing they did was to open their faction menu to check the member list. The first thing they noticed was that Geralt was dead. Their leader’s name disappeared from the member list. They remembered Tang Shaoyang wanting to keep him alive, but that seemed not to be the case.
Excluding two of them, they were looking for the thirty-five names that came together with them when their main base was attacked. That was when they found out that those names were no longer in the list.
Carter and Arthur exchanged glances with a calculating look on their faces. They were thinking of how long it had been since they left the city. It was two hours ago, and it shocked them that they all died in just two hours.
“What’s wrong with you guys? Have you guys gone deaf or what? Can’t you hear our questions? Give us the details—”
Arthur cut off the annoying guy’s words, “They are all dead!” he said nothing to explain it further, and Carter explained the rest, telling them what happened.
How Geralt was caught and how thirty-five Shadow Stars’ important members died. Those thirty-fives were their top hired people, the top assassins. It didn’t cripple the Shadow Star from losing them, but it was a massive loss for them.
“We must not underestimate him if that’s the case,” The one who first questioned Carter and Arthur, Remin voiced his honest thought, “He’s alone, but he has an army that is not weaker than the God Ranks…” This sounded absurd to say, but he chose to believe Carter and Arthur’s report.
He checked the member lists, and those thirty-five names, along with Geralt, were no longer in the list. This might be more troublesome than he thought it would. Especially with their enemy’s special status.
“I will take the leader position temporarily, only for this war,” Remin decided this was no longer a fight, but a war. He took the initiative to be the leader.
“But why you? Why not me?” The one who mocked Arthur and Carter immediately protested. His name was Milos Havel, also known as the Black Executioner Havel. One of the renowned assassins in the God Realm.
“Come on, Havel. This is not the time to argue. You might be good at assassination, and so am I. But have you led a war before?” Remin shook his head when he pointed out that Havel had never experienced leading a war. Even when the Shadow Star participated in a war, Havel never really joined the war. His duty was to assassinate the important enemies.
“I don’t care who will lead the war, but we must take back our home. We can’t let this disgraceful event stick to the Shadow Star’s name,” Carter chimed in, not taking any side.
“Shut up, coward! You talk so much for someone who abandoned your comrades. You should die altogether with Geralt instead of running away in disgrace,” Havel raised his voice as he turned toward Remin, “And you will use this chance to put yourself ahead in the race for the Shadow Lord vacant seat of the Shadow Lord. I am not going to let it happen.”
Remin shrugged, not denying Havel’s accusation, “Then what are you going to do? I am not going to follow someone like you who doesn’t have any experience in leading a war. This is not an assassination request, Havel!”
The Black Executive Havel was a renowned assassin, but so was Remin. He was known as Red Reaper, not losing on any ground against someone like Havel in terms of their reputation. Two of them, along with the others, were the face of the Shadow Star.
Havel sneered at Remin’s obvious attempt to take an early lead in the race for Shadow Lord’s position, “You can do whatever you want with your underlings, and I will do things on my way.”
He didn’t wait for Remin to respond and left the room with the other two people who came in together.
Remin let out a sigh, shaking his head. Havel was a lost cause as he turned toward Carter and Arthur, “Now, I need more details. I believe you have more details about this Tang Shaoyang since you have fought him.”
Carter and Arthur shook their heads, “It’s not even a fight. He killed Aemilia in one strike and killed Rados in two minutes, maybe less.”
“We did once exchange, and he overpowered both of us with his weird golden palm. There was something weird with his energy, or maybe a skill. I am not sure, but his attack is weakening ours, I think.” Carter added more explanation to that single exchange. That one exchange made Arthur and him make up their mind to escape.
“That’s something new…” Remin rubbed his chin thoughtfully, “It might be because of his unique energy. I heard he had a unique energy. Thanks for the information. I will coordinate the information with the other groups.”
They were one of seven groups. There were seven cities close to the city where their main base was. All of the Shadow Star’s members in Allavaine gathered in those seven cities, including the hired mercenaries they could find in Allavaine.
Allavaine was considered the Shadow Star’s world, but they did allow the mercenary factions to reside in their world. They didn’t expect to use this mercenary for this war.
