It was already mid afternoon that Max woke up.

He was a bit hungry, so he decided to eat a light meal first.

He did not need to cook as his refrigerator were already filled with diet meals prepared by Auntie Sarah herself.

After eating, taking a shower, and dried his hair, he immediately delved into the game.

He woke up in his personal room and proceeded to the library.

He continued to study with Amelia, Jeremiah, and Solomon. They were still at the third volume of the Sacred Canon, so it might take more than two weeks to finish the entire Ecclesiastical Collection.

After six hours of study, his communication crystal terminal rang.

How it rang was unusual. It was not unpleasant and loud, but it easily broke his concentration, especially when he was immersed studying.

He frowned and stood up, ordering his three Radiant Knights to continue study.

He proceeded to his private office and fell into deep thought.

Any towns and villages within the Mirefall Province could call my communication crystal terminal.

This is annoying. Did a player already catch a dark mage?

The early phase of the world event officially commenced when Malveris returned with other demons invading the Empire with full force.

However, during Malveris’ actions against the Empire, whenever his plans were spoiled—his dark mage getting caught and saving villages and towns—the contributions would be recorded and the Imperial Family would personally rewards them.

At this point, it was best for Max to take advantage and earn reputation as best as he could without having to personally appear to the specific towns.

Thankfully, Max was finished studying the Historical Campaign Collection and Demon Classification Collection just in time, providing him with knowledge on how to deal with the dark mages indirectly.

When he arrived and accepted the call, he was surprised that it was Lieutenant Garrick who called for him.

"Max, how have you been?"

Max smiled and responded, "I’m doing good. How about you?"

"It’s fine. Though, we are still at war against the other demons.

I won’t beat around the bush. I have received the news that a dark mage has appeared in the Willowmere Town."

Max’s face turned solemn.

The High-Priest player who spread the news indeed came from the Mirefall Province.

They are progressing quite faster than I thought.

Max replied, "So, another demonic cult have risen again..."

He responded with knowledge based on what he read, not from his past life.

Lieutenant Garrick replied, "As expected of you, Max. To think you are also studying the past.

That’s right, Malveris might have returned again, spreading cults to towns and villages.

It has been hundred years since he appeared and most of the citizens were illiterate. So, they don’t know Malveris and his manipulative ability."

Lieutenant sighed. "It can’t be helped, the Imperial Family focused on investing more on military than easy access to every individuals for education."

"They can’t be blamed. After all, the Empire is surrounded by different enemies that could conquer them."

"I know. And it might be too late now.

I’m telling you this now.

Congratulations for becoming an Imperial Demon Vanguard, by the way."

Max smiled.

"So, is this a mission from you, or not?"

Lieutenant Garrick shook his head. "When it comes to this situation, your authority is even higher than me.

I just want you to know that you are responsible to this case. As far as I know, you are the only Imperial Demon Vanguard in this province.

You can delegate this mission to others, but keep it in mind that you will be responsible for this one."

Max nodded.

At the same time, the system’s announcement popped up in front of him.

[You have triggered a provincial quest.

Title: Get Rid of the Cancer to the Empire.

Descriptions: This quest is triggered by the responsibility as an Imperial Demon Vanguard. As an Imperial Demon Vanguard, you must get rid of the Cancer to the Empire, proving your worth and value to your current position. The rewards will be based on your contributions. The higher the contribution, the higher the chances of granting a rank promotion. The higher the rank of an Imperial Demon Vanguard, the higher the privilege you will receive.]

Max chuckled. The system’s quest was unnecessary but given that it was indeed a quest that covered the entire province of the Mirefall, it was indeed reasonable for him to trigger the quest.

Lieutenant Garrick’s voice echoed, snapping him awake.

"I don’t know if there are hidden Imperial Demon Vanguard in the province, but since your reputation and position has been widely disseminated to the entire province, it only meant that demonic activities are handled by you."

"Yes. I know. Don’t worry, I will try my best to prevent the cults from spreading."

"That’s all. I will be hanging up now. Take care, Max. Good luck."

"Thanks."

As the call ended, Max sat with a frowning expression.

In the end, Max returned to the library and had Jeremiah and others bring all the books to continue studying in his private office.

He believed it would be quite inconvenient to travel every now and then.

Just as he sat, his communication crystal terminal rang again.

This time, it came from an Imperial Sergeant, who introduced himself as the Military Commander in the Fenwatch Crossing, a town that Max couldn’t visit.

"Sir Imperial Demon Vanguard. I’m calling you to report that the recent deaths from our village is connected to the cults recorded in the past.

The High-Priest in our Town informed me and suggested to ask for your advice to solve this case."

Max thought for a while and replied, "Don’t alarm the Dark Mage. Given that the Dark Mage can conceal himself from you and the High-Priest meant he might be at C-rank now.

Increase the patrol and wait for the Imperial Family to give you an artifact that will detect and imprison the Dark Mage without self-sabotaging.

It should only take days.

Don’t worry, the higher the rank of the Dark Mage, the higher the rank of the individual they would target.

That’s their biggest advantage.

I assume that you can take care of them when they target you, right?"

"Yes, Sir!"

Max nodded and ended the call.

At the same time, he called the Commander asked him the Imperial Family’s response...
