Next day.

When the sun rose, everyone in the encampment area got up when it was time.

Alex was also up early after a refreshing good night’s worth of sleep.

Nothing much happened in the middle of the night, and Eddy was as reliable as usual with the arrangements of the guards, giving him a peace of mind.

He had breakfast with Riley, Terry and Brian together while the others formed their own groups.

Slowly, when the sun rose higher and higher, the unbearable heat was back very soon.

Even though everyone was tired, they understood that they were only halfway on the journey to the hydroelectric dam.

So, they didn’t complain and were eager to get back onto the buses when Alex asked them to get ready.

It didn’t take them too long to do so, and their convoy started on their journey again.

Once they got to the canyon, it was still hot and the buses moved even slower than they were.

The tall wall of rocks on the sides of the canyon was perfect for an ambush on them from above, but they didn’t have other routes through the canyon.

Scaling up onto the tall rocks would take up a few days or even weeks to do so compared to getting through the canyon from the ground route.

Their convoy moved along the route ahead and the students manning the turrets aimed their automatic grenade launchers and machine guns up above at the top of the tall walls.

When some small rocks fell down from above, all of them got tensed and held their fingers to their triggers.

Thankfully, it was a false alarm and nothing else happened afterwards.

They gave out a sigh of relief and they continued to stay on alert.

Alex, who was in the lead bus, frowned as the bus came near to a stream in the canyon.

The stream still had remnants of the dark rain in it, with some of the water running through it being dark instead of being clear like the rest of the stream.

He tried to sense for any mutated beasts or anyone else in the surroundings and he was surprised when he sensed something huge approaching him.

Thump.

The ground shook.

And the same thing happened again in the next few moments.

The ground shook even more and the thump sound was even louder this time.

Alex picked up his walkie talkie, pressed the button and talked into it, "We got trouble coming."

"On our way there now." Riley, Terry and Brian replied and the walkie talkie gave out a buzz.

He got down from the bus he was on and ran forward towards the stream.

Thump.

The water of the stream also shook together with the ground, when the thumping sound was heard again.

When Riley, Terry and Brian got to him, they could see who was the culprit doing this.

A huge mutated toad with two heads and its body covered in scales were jumping towards them.

Seeing the two heads and scales covering the mutated toad, Alex figured that it was at least a Stage III or Stage IV mutated beast.

"Let me try this!" Brian made the first move and he used something that Alex had not seen before.

Huge fireballs appeared above the mutated toad and they rained down at the mutated toad like meteors.

But one of the mutated toad’s heads lifted and it opened its mouth, its purple tongue shot out from the mouth and the tongue lashed out at the fireballs that were coming towards it.

Boom.

The fireballs gave out a huge explosion when the purple tongue of the mutated toad swept past the fireballs.

Flames from the fireballs dropped onto the body of the mutated toad, but it was undeterred by it.

The scales that it had on its body were impervious to the flames.

Meanwhile, the other head of the mutated toad also opened its mouth.

Whoosh.

A flash of purple could be seen shooting out from its mouth and it shot out towards Terry.

Terry gave out a grunt and he raised his hands.

Five walls that were five meters tall and thick, rose from the ground one behind another.

Thunk.

The purple tongue of the mutated toad hit onto the first wall and it penetrated through it like hot knife through butter.

It went on and hit onto the second wall.

The same thing happened.

The second wall was enough to stop the purple tongue of the mutated toad.

Then, it went on and penetrated the third, fourth and fifth metallic walls.

Whoosh.

When it got through the fifth metallic wall, it shot out towards where Terry was.

Fortunately, Terry had taken the opportunity to leap away from where he was.

Alex frowned at what he had witnessed.

This was most likely a Stage IV mutated beast.

He wasn’t too confident of getting away without any serious injuries if he was hit by the purple tongue of the mutated toad.

"Riley, take care of the right head while I will take care of the left one with Terry!" He shouted and his friends moved immediately.

They had fought together so often that they instinctively knew what to do next.

The purple tongue that shot out at Terry retracted back into the mouth of the mutated toad and it gave out a croak with the lower part of its mouth bloating up.

Then, it opened its mouth and a torrent of acidic liquid poured out from it.

Alex quickly used his storage portal and the storage portal absorbed the acidic liquid into it.

Terry also leaped behind him in the nick of time.

Sizzle.

The ground in the surroundings started to give out a sizzling sound and smoke rose from the ground.

Poisonous fumes filled the air and Alex leaped further to the left of the mutated toad.

The mutated toad tried to turn at him but its other head was dealing with Riley and Brian, making it have a tug of war with itself for a moment.

Two slits appeared on top of the mutated toad’s body and they opened up into a portal next.

Crackle.

Crackling sounds of lightning could be heard from within and bright flashes lit up the surroundings.
