Alex was pleased with the reward and the fact that he had gotten to the objective so first on the first day.

He walked towards the others at the busses and they were glad that it was over.

The heat was making everyone uncomfortable while being stationary.

At least there was some wind when the busses moved.

Even though it would be warm winds blowing at them, they rather have something that helped to alleviate the heat and stuffiness in the busses.

Alex was thinking the same.

He didn’t really cherish being out in the heat with blood and innards of the mutated jackals that were everywhere.

"Get on the buses and let’s continue on our journey." He said to Riley, Terry and Brian.

They nodded their heads and they got back onto their respective buses.

Vroom.

Engines of the buses roared again and the convoy continued on their way.

There weren’t any more encounters except for some incidents where one of the busses got stuck in the soil.

Thankfully, it wasn’t the days before the Apocalypse anymore.

Lin, with the ability to control the soil, got the bus trapped in the soil free easily.

When they were done freeing the bus, they continued on their journey again.

After that, they finally encountered some mutated beasts but the students were able to take care of these mutated beasts with their firearms and abilities from the Awakened among the students.

When it was noon, they stopped near some boulders and stopped their buses under the shade provided by these boulders.

Alex and the others had a rest and had lunch to fill their hungry stomachs.

"Everyone ready? If you are, let’s get ready to continue on our journey."

When lunch was over, Alex stood up and asked.

His friends and the other students nodded their heads at him.

Then, they got back onto the buses and continued their journey.

After traveling for an hour or so, the sky suddenly got dark and Alex glanced up at it.

Clouds had gathered and winds started blowing.

It started drizzling with droplets of rain at first, followed by a heavier rainfall.

But it wasn’t any ordinary rain.

The rain was the familiar dark color like the hailstorm when the Apocalypse had just started.

Alex frowned at the rain that was pelting down onto the buses and it was getting louder and louder.

The students manning the turrets quickly closed them and got back inside the buses.

"I can’t see anymore." The person who was driving the bus turned and said to Alex.

The heavy rainfall coupled with the darkness was making it barely visible a few meters ahead.

Although Alex didn’t have a good feeling about the dark rain, he had no other option and said, "Stop the bus at the cover over there first."

He pointed at an area that had some cover provided by some boulders.

The person driving the bus nodded and turned the bus towards it.

Alex proceeded to pick up his walkie talkie, press the button and say, "Riley, Terry and Brian, we need to stop and take cover until the rain is over.

"Follow the lead of my bus."

Buzz.

The walkie talkie gave out a buzzing sound before the voice of Riley, Terry and Brian sounded one after another with an affirmative reply.

Their buses stopped under the cover of some boulders again.

Alex frowned and glanced warily at the surroundings.

The last time something happened like this, some of the mutated beasts turned into Stage II mutated beasts afterwards.

Not knowing what a Stage IV mutated beast would be like, Alex didn’t really cherish the opportunity for him to face one under this condition and with the other students that were with him.

He could only be on the alert and lookout for any dangers that approached them.

Hours passed before the dark rain slowly turned back into a drizzle with only a few droplets of rain trickling down from above.

Then, it finally stopped.

Alex gave out a sigh of relief that nothing had happened.

He picked up his walkie talkie, pressed the button and spoke into it, "Let’s move out."

Riley, Terry and Brian replied and the engines of the buses started.

The convoy moved and it was evening time very soon.

And with the scorching sun setting down into the horizon in the distance, coupled with the dark rain earlier, the suffocating heat that was all around Alex and the others was finally gone.

But it was a drastic drop in the temperature.

The students started feeling cold from it and except for the Awakened like Alex, most of them were shivering in their summer clothes.

Alex decided to make camp and hand the other students some winter clothing that he had gotten from the Halmart previously.

He picked an area that was high ground with visibility to the surroundings.

They parked their buses and Terry quickly got to work.

He created some barriers with his ability and some covers for the guards that would be on detail.

When he was done, everyone started making dinner while Eddy, Lin, and David went around distributing the warmer clothes to them.

Alex and his friends gathered around together while Terry made a warm meal for them.

While waiting, he glanced out into the distance and sighed when he saw the canyon that they had to get through the following day.

He couldn’t help but wonder what would await him over there.
