The sun setting into the horizon made the buildings on the left cast a long shadow over the road between the buildings.

Alex figured he could make use of it.

"Cover me on the side and back." He glanced back at his friends and said.

Terry and Brian moved to the sides of the road while Riley stood on alert covering their backs.

After they were in position, Alex advanced into the shadows, and in the next moment, he disappeared from everyone’s sight.

"What the hell?!" Terry exclaimed silently in his mind when he saw it.

Brian was also surprised by it, but he was used to it now.

Riley shook his head at Alex and gave out a long sigh.

Why couldn’t he get flashy abilities like what Alex had instead?

He was still longing for something that looked better.

While they were doing so, Alex in the form of a shadow moved along the road.

He sensed the presence of enemies while he was getting further away from his friends.

And his hunch about this place being perfect for ambush was right.

There were a bunch of people hiding in the alley, waiting for Alex and his friends to approach.

Hiding in the dark alley, they stood next to a pile of clothes and shoes, getting ready to launch into action.

All of them were eager to be able to get food and water from the travelers going towards the quarantine area.

"Do you think they have food and water?"

"I would think so."

"Too bad that there aren’t any pretty ladies for us to have fun with."

"Is that all you can think of in that dirty mind of yours?"

"At least they look like college kids; shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to take them down."

"Enough talking. Dave, get ready to run out and ask them for help."

Dave, who was covered with blood on his face and clothes, gave the leader of the gang a thumbs-up and he walked towards the walkway of the street.

After he took a few steps, he started to limp and groan as if he was hurt.

They had used Dave as a lure to unsuspecting travelers and launched their ambush when the travelers least expected it.

Alex, hiding in the shadows, had listened to their conversation and he knew what was going on.

It was time for action.

He wished that he would be able to use his other abilities while in shadow form but, unfortunately, it didn’t allow him to do so.

Maybe it would be possible when he reached the kill target of 200, he thought, and he started to turn back to his normal form.

Dave was getting close to the walkway but he frowned and stopped when he saw something slowly emerging from the ground.

First, it was dark like a shadow.

Then, the shadowy form started changing shape and it turned into a human figure.

When Dave saw what it was in the end, his mouth opened wide.

Alex tilted his head and gave him a smirk.

A slit appeared right in front of Dave and it opened up into a portal.

Puff.

A cloud of white particles came out from the portal and it engulfed Dave in the next moment.

Dave tried to shout and warn the others but he realized that he couldn’t move.

No sound came out from his mouth no matter how hard he tried.

His body turned numb and he couldn’t feel anything anymore in an instant.

Dave was now like a plaster figure that was in the school of Fine Arts.

"Dave, what’s going on over there?"

"Wait, is that another person?"

"Who the hell are you!"

"You better stop what you are doing right now."

Dave’s accomplices standing further away finally saw Alex and they pulled out their guns and shouted at him.

Alex shrugged at them while he used his storage ability.

Two slits appeared at the top of the accomplices and they opened up into the familiar portal.

Then, clouds of white particles descended towards them.

They cursed and wanted to pull the trigger of their guns but their fingers moved a little before they were covered with the white particles.

Every sensation and touch couldn’t be felt anymore.

All of them lost control of their bodies after being touched by the white particles.

By the time they turned into those eerie plaster figures, all of them either had an expression of fear or disbelief on their faces.

It was over even before they could retaliate.

Alex was glad that things went so smoothly and he was impressed with what he could achieve with the Shadow Plane ability.

He would try and keep it if possible.

As he thought about this, a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

Information panels with words started to appear in it.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations to Host for killing off 10 enemies.]

[Dispensing rewards now:]

[100x bottles of water.]

[All items are stored in your storage space now.]

[Current status: 201/200]

[Day 1 of 1 for SSS Level Shadow Plane.]

[Congratulations to Host for achieving 200 kill target.]

[SSS Level Shadow Plane ability is now permanent.]

[You can now use your abilities while you are in shadow form.]

[You can now sustain the flat shadow form for up to 20 minutes at a time.]

Alex couldn’t believe his luck when he saw what the upgrade for his Shadow Plane ability was.

It came at the best possible moment, giving him more confidence when he enters the quarantine area later.

He turned around and walked out of the alley.

Waving his hands, he gestured to his friends for them to come over.

Riley and the others saw him and they joined him quickly.

They raised an eyebrow when they saw the plaster figures that were behind him.

"New friends?" Riley pointed at the plaster figures and asked.

"Yeah, I suppose." Alex said with a shrug.

Riley, Terry and Brian rolled their eyes at him.

"Let’s head for the grass field next." Alex ignored them and said.

They quickly followed him and headed towards the grass field that was near to the southern piers.
