Chapter 57: Supermarket

What the pamphlet had written on it was the same that the nurse had told Alex earlier.

He handed the pamphlet over to Brian and Terry who were sitting behind the car to them and pondered on it.

Apparently, the authorities had been doing something but they weren’t informed in the college.

Were the authorities slowed down or stopped by the mutated beasts?

Or have the authorities forgotten about them in the first place?

He wasn’t sure which was the case with the information he had so far.

Alex turned his thoughts onto the so-called quarantine point.

Did the authorities really want to get the survivors to the quarantine point to keep them safe as the pamphlet had advertised?

He wasn’t too keen on it as he was getting suspicious of how the authorities had behaved after the apocalypse happened. ℴℴ𝘮

As an Awakened who could easily kill so many and stand up against the authorities, he knew that things wouldn’t be the same when dealing with them anymore.

He had better be much more careful to be dealing with them.

"I wouldn’t trust them if I were you." Riley turned the steering wheel of the car and said, "I bet you that they are out to filter out folks like us so that they can have control over us.

"They will never allow any threat to their dominance over everyone to be challenged.

"If you step into the quarantine area as an Awakened, don’t you ever think of coming out of it intact."

Bump.

The car sped over a hump and it made them jump a little from their seat.

Terry who had wanted to go and have a look due to the promised safety considered on what Riley had said.

Brian too wasn’t too keen anymore.

Being an Awakened unlike the others meant that they were different from the others now.

Making a bet on whether the old order and authorities would be able to accept their powers was one that they wouldn’t want to make.

They had seen how it was before the apocalypse and the odds certainly weren’t in favor of them.

"I agree with Riley. It’s best for us to gather more information about what the authorities are trying to do before making any decision." Alex said and the others nodded their heads.

Riley felt great that his usual apprehension against the authorities was well received this time.

Feeling great, he sat up straight and glanced further out into the horizon.

They were getting near to the supermarket and he started to slow down the car before coming close to it.

"Look." he pointed out into the distance and said.

Alex frowned when he saw that the place was filled with mutated beasts roaming around.

There were mutated beasts that were in the form of a deer but they were much larger than normal and had glowing flames burning on their antlers.

Other than the mutated deer, there were three mutated bison that were at least two meters tall with rocks covering their bodies like armor plates.

From their form they had, he figured they were still at Stage II of their mutation.

They should be able to to take care of these mutated beasts from their past encounters.

And thankfully for them, there weren’t any sightings of the three story high mutated beast that the nurse had told him about.

Either the nurse had heard wrongly or that the particular mutated beast was gone.

Alex proceeded to try have a glance into the supermarket, to see if there was anything valuable inside, and he was only able to barely see what was inside through the smashed entrance of the supermarket.

Fortunately, with his enhanced vision, he could see that the racks of goods were toppled but most of the merchandise was still intact.

It might still be worth the risk for them to try and get into the supermarket.

They needed the essentials for daily living, and most importantly, the portable generators for generating electricity.

Many tools and equipment that they needed required electricity to power them up.

"What should we do next?" Terry asked and the others glanced at him.

Alex pointed to the mutated bison and said, "I will take care of the mutated bison as they seemed to be a tougher nut to crack.

"The three of you take care of the mutated deer in the meantime."

"Got it." Riley, Terry and Brian nodded their heads to him and said.

They were eager to become stronger by killing more of these mutated beasts so they were more than happy to agree to his suggestion.

So far, they had listened to him and they were obviously doing so much better than the others.

Riley stopped the car a short distance away from the open car park of the supermarket and they got out of the car.

Alex waved his hand across the car, and the car disappeared into his storage space in the next moment.

Then, he glanced over at the open car park and said, "On the count of three, one, two and three."

Once he hit the count of three, Riley, Terry and Brian went on their way while he lunged at the three mutated bison that were to the left.

A heatwave swept across him when the mutated deer started to throw out flames from their antlers at him when he got past them.

However, he was too fast for the flames.

Whoosh.

Alex whizzed past the mutated deer and when the flames came straight at him, a slit appeared and opened up into a portal.

The flames got absorbed into the portal and he lunged at the mutated deer that was obstructing him.

Crush.

He lifted his leg and slammed his heel down hard at the mutated deer’s head and it crushed the head of the mutated deer when it hit onto the ground.

Blood spurted onto the ground but he didn’t stop.

He stepped onto the back of the mutated deer before it dropped to the ground and he lunged at the mutated bison that was near him.

The mutated bison with its bloodshot eyes stared at him and gave out a roar.

Sharp rock spikes appeared out of nowhere and they shot towards him.
