Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 392: Easton’s Parents
Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Easton’s Parents
He was especially excited and said to Lily Hart, "If you ever want to go in the future, I’m at your beck and call. I’ll always save a spot for you in the back!"
Lily Hart smiled and agreed, pouring herself a glass of water as she watched the three of them bustling in the kitchen.
She waited quietly for dinner to be ready.
Owen Warren then asked, "Where did you two go this afternoon?"
Lily Hart was messaging Elder Shaw and didn’t quite hear him.
Roman Rowe was already blurting out excitedly, "We took the high-speed rail! All the way to Central Command! It only takes three and a half hours and costs twenty Crystal Cores. Super cheap!"
If you tried to walk to Central Command, it would probably take several days, and you might not even make it.
But the high-speed rail absolutely guarantees your safety and speed.
"High-speed rail?" Leo Colby and Owen Warren said in unison.
"Hehe, you guys don’t know yet, do you? Boss Hart built a new high-speed rail station, right outside Kenseng Base!" Roman Rowe was thrilled, beaming with pride as if he had built the station himself.
Lily Hart finished telling Elder Shaw about it and looked up to find several pairs of eyes staring at her in admiration.
"Huh?" She was still a bit dazed from the stream of praise and encouragement from Elder Shaw. "What’s wrong?"
Leo Colby and Owen Warren simultaneously gave Lily Hart a thumbs-up.
Even though Owen Warren was a zombie, he also thought this was a great thing. Full of anticipation, he asked, "Can zombies ride the high-speed rail?"
The other three shot him a strange look. Lily Hart chose her words carefully, "Wouldn’t that just be an open buffet..." ’Pretty tactful, huh?’
Roman Rowe got it and collapsed onto the sofa, howling with laughter. He repeated the two words, "Open buffet, HAHAHAHAHA, open buffet! Lily, you’re hilarious!"
Leo Colby couldn’t hold back either, laughing as he patted Owen Warren’s shoulder.
Owen Warren was still a little confused. "What’s an ’open buffet’?"
Leo Colby said, "It means ’time to eat.’ If you throw a zombie into a crowd of people, isn’t that an open buffet?"
Owen Warren thought about it. ’That’s true. If I were thrown into an ocean of Boss Harts, I’d die of happiness! I could eat one a day, hehehe~’
He started giggling foolishly. The sound was so goofy that everyone turned to look at him.
Owen Warren kept laughing to himself for a while before gradually composing himself. Meeting everyone’s puzzled, scrutinizing gazes, he snorted softly and ignored them.
He just quietly scooted his butt a few times in Lily Hart’s direction. ’Hehe, get a little closer. Then when the buffet opens, I can get a big CHOMP.’
Soon, the food was ready. Frost Shaw and the other two came out carrying the dishes, setting them out one by one.
Everyone was seated. Lily Hart’s gaze unconsciously fell on Easton. ’Huh, I feel like I’ve forgotten something.’
’The day I went to see Frost, I felt like something was off with Easton’s mood, but I forgot about it later.’
’Looking at him now, something still seems wrong.’
Lily Hart picked up her bowl of rice and asked, "Easton? What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
As a proper boss, caring about the physical and mental well-being of her employees was very important. Besides, he was one of her original employees.
He’d been with her from the very beginning; she had to take good care of him.
Easton looked up in a panic, his eyes meeting Lily Hart’s concerned gaze, then quickly looked down again and shoveled a bite of rice into his mouth, his actions only making his anxiety more obvious.
Frost Shaw looked at him too. ’My mind’s been so full of Lily Hart lately, I’ve forgotten to check on them.’
Everyone else looked over as well. Stared at by so many people, Easton was at a bit of a loss.
He stammered, "I... I think I have parents."
"Huh? We all do. It’s not like we were born from a rock," Lily Hart said with a laugh.
She was trying to break the heavy atmosphere with a light, cheerful tone.
Easton was sullen, and his voice even held a hint of resentment. "I know, but they abandoned me, and now they want to take me back..."
Lily Hart was stunned. ’What’s this new drama? I thought he was just missing his parents.’
"So you...?" she asked, choosing her words carefully.
"I don’t want to go back! They just saw online that I’m doing well at the convenience store and want to leech off of me! They were so heartless when they abandoned me!" Easton said firmly.
His words were filled with disgust for his parents. After they abandoned him, it was Frost who had given him a second home.
At first, he thought his parents would surely come back for him. He waited for half a year.
In the end, he gave up hope.
He settled into a peaceful life with Frost. Later, Diana Sharp, Tina Jacobs, Stewart Carter, and Julius Carter joined them, and the six of them lived very happily.
Then they met Lily, and living together was even happier and more fulfilling. He didn’t want to go back at all!
Lily Hart agreed. "Exactly! Why go back to such shitty parents? Are you looking for trouble? When they abandoned you, they never expected you to survive."
Her words were crude, but she had a point.
In a city overrun by zombies, how was a child with no superpower supposed to survive? They were practically sending him to his death!
Encouraged, Easton became even more resolute, but he was still worried.
"But they said if I don’t go back or give them supplies, they’ll come to the convenience store and cause trouble. I’m scared..."
"Don’t be scared! You have so many older brothers here. Just call any one of them and they’ll run them off!" Lily Hart said confidently.
Then it occurred to her, and she asked, puzzled, "How do they know you’re at the convenience store?"
Roman Rowe helped explain, "Don’t people often take pictures and post them online? Easton probably showed up a lot and got spotted."
The kids all have Light Brains now, which are convenient for communication and location tracking.
For fun, they also registered accounts on the [Human Social Sphere], all with the convenience store’s name as a prefix.
After Easton’s parents found out he was working at the convenience store, it was easy for them to find his account.
They started spamming him with private messages...
The store’s travel schedule isn’t a secret anymore. Every time it arrives at a new base, countless residents voluntarily post about it online to make everyone else envious.
Lily Hart just figured they couldn’t keep up with the store’s speed.
After all, it moves to a new base every day. Unless you’re a Speed Superpower User or have a vehicle, how could you possibly catch up?!
"It’s okay, don’t be afraid!" Lily Hart said comfortingly.
She even gave him a big chicken drumstick as encouragement. Easton took a huge, teary-eyed bite.
Normally, Stewart Carter would have fought him for it, but this time he felt a little sorry for him and put some food in his bowl too.
Seeing this, Frederick Shaw also put some food in his bowl and said, "Eat up," with a mature air.
The others also started putting food in Easton’s bowl, and in no time, the small plate in front of him was piled high.
Easton’s tears turned to laughter. "That’s enough, that’s enough! You guys eat too."
’It’s so nice to have a family like this.’
Lily Hart, on the other hand, took a chicken wing for herself. She didn’t like drumsticks.
After the meal, Lily Hart pulled out her Light Brain and started thinking about the high-speed rail station.
She had talked about it with Elder Shaw before dinner. They had already held their regular meeting and would give her their full support in building the station.
The revenue from ticket sales and goods sold on the train would be split seventy-thirty.
Lily Hart would get seventy percent, and they would get thirty.
After all, Lily Hart was the one who had whipped up the high-speed rail station, and the boxed meals, snacks, instant noodles, and so on sold on the train were all supplied by her factory and convenience store.
