Chapter 272: Chapter 229: Boar’s Reckless Charge, Part 2
Lin Fan narrowed his eyes and turned to look somewhere else.
In the standing water not far away, the legless Tao He was screaming like a stuck pig, his hands digging into the ground as he desperately tried to crawl away from the battlefield.
Behind him, the stumps of his severed legs left a wide, bloody trail in the muddy water, which collected into a dark red pool.
’High HP means a good constitution. He’s crawling pretty fast...’
Lin Fan strode forward. His work boots squelched in the blood-mixed mud, and he deliberately made a "SQUELCH, SQUELCH" sound with each step as he approached.
As he walked, he kept his distance from the two Mutated Zombies, observing their movements.
"Don’t... don’t kill me..."
Tao He heard the approaching footsteps and turned his head in terror. His once-delicate face was now caked in mud, distorted by blood loss and agonizing pain until it was a grotesque mask.
"I’ll follow you, sir! I... I’ll tell you where the boss is!"
He frantically crawled backward, begging for mercy as he went.
"You’re wailing so loudly. Why aren’t they coming to eat you?"
Lin Fan gestured toward the two feeding zombies, asking curiously.
"They... they recognize me..."
Tao He followed Lin Fan’s gesture. His face was pale—it was hard to tell if it was from his body temperature dropping due to blood loss or from the terror of seeing his former comrades being devoured—and his voice trembled as he spoke.
"Didn’t they recognize her, too?" Lin Fan frowned, pressing the shaft of his spear against Tao He’s neck. "Your boss..."
SCREECH—
A sharp screech of microphone feedback suddenly echoed throughout the entire meat-packing plant. The sound was so piercing that not only did Lin Fan frown, but even the two Mutated Zombies, who had been fighting over a severed foot, froze mid-action.
That slick, cold voice suddenly crackled from the loudspeakers on the surrounding walls, tinged with frustration and rage:
"Friend—!"
"Show mercy when you can! Why do you have to be so ruthless?!"
Lin Fan looked as if he’d just heard the world’s greatest joke. He took half a step back to keep Tao He in his line of sight, then glanced up at the camera with its flashing red light, a sneer on his face.
"Boss, I don’t like the sound of that."
He pointed to where the two Mutated Zombies were. Nearby, the jagged, splintered bones of a dismembered corpse were still embedded in the concrete.
"Didn’t that lady just say it herself? The weak are merely food for the strong. Their value lies in being eaten, and achieving that value through a stronger being is all that matters..."
Lin Fan spread his hands.
"That’s your philosophy, isn’t it? It can’t only apply when you’re the ones on top, right? Now that it’s your turn on the chopping block, you’re crying about someone else being ruthless. Talk about a double standard..."
He slammed the butt of his spear into the ground, and his voice cut through the curtain of rain.
"So what’s the problem with me using you as food?"
"Fine... Fine! FINE!" The voice on the other end of the broadcast dropped all pretense, becoming wild and hysterical. "Since you insist on wiping us out... then don’t blame me for taking you down with me!"
RUMBLE—!
The voice hadn’t even faded when Lin Fan felt the ground beneath his feet begin to tremble violently, and the standing water rippled in waves.
The source of the tremors was extremely close—right inside the massive refrigerated warehouse ahead! It was as if some ancient behemoth, imprisoned deep underground, was frantically smashing against its steel restraints, creating a series of heart-stopping, muffled thuds!
ROAR—!
BOOM! With an earth-shattering crash, the large iron doors on the front of the warehouse—along with the surrounding frame and the nearly half-meter-thick reinforced concrete wall—were blasted outward from within as if they were made of paper. Rubble flew and clouds of dust billowed out.
An incomparably huge, mountain-like mass of brown flesh forced its way out of the breach, bringing with it a nauseating, foul stench!
It was a mutated monster, over five meters tall and ten meters long, its body covered in metallic bristles and fleshy tumors! Two curved tusks, like ivory, pointed toward the sky. Murky drool streamed from the corners of its mouth. Folds of jiggling fat occasionally parted to reveal basketball-sized eyes, devoid of pupils and filled with nothing but chaotic savagery.
[5782/5782] A bright red health bar instantly appeared in Lin Fan’s vision.
’Almost six thousand HP?!’ He sucked in a sharp breath. This was the tankiest monster he had ever seen. It was practically a land battleship!
"Hahaha! Do you see it?!" The boss’s crazed laughter echoed from the speakers. "This is the masterpiece I’ve been cultivating for so long! A monster that even I can’t fully control... Once it’s loose, it’s nearly impossible for me to lock it up again..."
"Since you wouldn’t leave, you can stay here and become fuel for its evolution!"
"ROAR!!" The moment the iron-colored mutated pig burst from its prison, it opened its massive maw, wide enough to swallow a car.
WHOOSH—!
A terrifying suction force erupted in an instant! Like a blue whale on land, it began to indiscriminately devour everything before it! The standing water, mud, shredded flesh, and even the rain falling from the sky were drawn into a vortex, spiraling madly into its mouth!
Lin Fan hastily plunged his spear through Tao He’s shoulder and into the ground beneath, anchoring them both to the concrete...
The two zombies that had been feeding—the Giant-Armed Zombie and the composite Mutated Zombie—were at first hunkering down to resist the pull. But then, as if struck by a dark spell, they stopped resisting.
They moved like puppets, not only abandoning their resistance but actively taking a step into the current and leaping forward!
The two behemoths, like a pair of meatballs, willingly leaped straight into that massive, tooth-filled maw!
