Chapter 271: Chapter 229: Headlong Charge

There was no deafening sound of impact.

VMMMM—!

A high-frequency hum, so deep it was almost inaudible yet vibrated through one’s very bones, suddenly rang out between the blade and the giant fist.

The force field generated by the clashing energies brought the raindrops around the point of contact to a dead halt, leaving them suspended and trembling in midair.

Faced with the greatsword’s extreme, rocket-like kinetic energy, the mutated giant arm—strong enough to overturn a car—rippled and deformed in a way that was painful just to look at.

But the energy enveloping the fist acted like a mass of high-density superglue, causing the blade to stick fast the moment it struck!

It frantically ground against, absorbed, and devoured the greatsword’s devastating kinetic energy. The intense friction between the two forces instantly ionized the surrounding air, creating ripples of a dark red halo.

ZZZZT—

Lin Fan felt as if his greatsword had plunged into a hyper-compressed thundercloud. Countless needle-fine energy shocks resonated through the blade, and the solid metal hilt trembled as if shot through with high-voltage electricity.

A purple halo flared to life around the hand gripping the hilt. His energy armor resisted the force that threatened to shatter his arm!

"ROAR!"

The Giant-Armed Tyrant roared. The viscous energy suddenly reached a critical point, then erupted! With sheer force, it brutally deflected the incredibly powerful greatsword, shoving it diagonally upward!

He instantly lost control of the blade. Tugged by that monstrous force, the greatsword began to shudder violently and veer off course. Lin Fan’s wrist creaked under the immense strain; if he held on any longer, his arm would be torn off!

A cold glint flashed in his eyes. In the split second before the greatsword was torn from his grasp, a thought struck him.

’Store!’

SWISH!

The steel slab of a sword, still locked in a frantic struggle with the energy field, vanished into thin air without warning, returning to his inventory slot.

BANG!

[-389]!

Having lost the greatsword as a point of resistance, the viscous energy that was countering the blade’s kinetic energy instantly lost its focus and imploded! The deafening blast instantly vaporized the surrounding suspended raindrops into mist!

"AARGH—!"

The Giant-Armed Zombie let out a cry of pain. Though Lin Fan hadn’t severed its right fist, the point-blank energy explosion had shredded half its hand.

Beneath the charred, mangled flesh, a thick arm bone with a metallic sheen was exposed. A scorched black sword mark was seared onto its surface. ℯℓ.

If Lin Fan hadn’t been constantly using his armor crystals to mitigate damage, leaving him no opportunity to imbue his sword with a sharpening force, that entire arm would have been lopped off.

Meanwhile, the greatsword’s abrupt disappearance left Lin Fan’s hands empty.

WHOOSH—!

No matter how fast he reacted, the immense inertia sent his arms flailing uncontrollably upward. His entire body lurched back before he managed to steady himself.

[-5]

He had pulled a muscle in his shoulder from just that one movement...

’This spatial combat technique is useful, all right, but man, is it rough on the body.’

But the minor strain was no obstacle. With a thought from Lin Fan, a silver light flashed. A spear materialized in his hand, and he charged it, spun, and swung it behind him!

WHOOSH—BANG!

The spear shrieked as it tore through the air. Executing a powerful turning blow, he smashed it viciously into the shoulder and neck of the other Mutated Zombie, which had already charged him from the right!

[-289]!

SPLAT!

The terrifying force of the impact exploded at the point of contact, blasting open the zombie’s granite-hard skin! A viscous, dark-brown mist of blood and shredded flesh sprayed out in all directions, nearly plastering Lin Fan in the face.

The monster, with its three thousand Life Value, was knocked sideways by the blow. It stumbled two steps before letting out an enraged roar.

’Whoa!’

Lin Fan felt the webbing of his hands go numb, and a flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes.

’So this weird Mutated Zombie, a combination of strength and hardened types, really is this tough!’

A normal Mutated Zombie would have had its entire arm and shoulder blade blown clean off by a strike infused with that much impact force.

’But this thing only lost a layer of flesh?’

While the two zombies were staggered from his combo, Lin Fan equipped a concealment crystal and retreated several steps. Theoretically, he should have already vanished from their perception.

The rain continued to fall, washing over the carnage on the ground.

Lin Fan stood in the rain, tilting his head up slightly to look at the camera with its glowing red light. He wanted to test whether the "boss" behind the scenes was domesticating the zombies or controlling them remotely.

As Lin Fan increased the distance, the two zombies didn’t chase after him as if equipped with radar. Just as he expected, they had lost their target.

They just scanned the area, wandering aimlessly until they reached the remains of the woman. After a brief pause, the Giant-Armed Zombie reached out with its good hand and, as if pulling a radish from the dirt, yanked the two long legs out of the concrete!

Without the slightest hesitation, it opened its maw—which stretched across its entire head—stuffed the thigh still encased in shattered bone armor into its mouth, and began to chow down.

The other did the same. Completely ignoring the powerful foe who had just vanished, the two zombies started their meal.

CRUNCH, CRUNCH...

The deeply unsettling sounds of chewing, mingled with the crisp crack of shattering bone, carried through the curtain of rain.

’I don’t know if this is what happens whenever they eat a person, or if the flesh of an Awakened One is just special.’

The chunk of Life Value above their heads, which Lin Fan had just depleted, actually began to slowly regenerate at a visible rate as they ate!

’Looks like the "boss" doesn’t have the ability to micromanage the zombies. The only thing I don’t get is how these two distinguish friend from foe. One moment, they were subservient to that woman; the next, she’s become a big +HP chicken leg for them.’
