Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin

Apocalypse — Chapter 100: Kindness Is a Disease—and It Needs a Cure!

  • Next Chapter

As the people in the unfinished building celebrated, someone suddenly shouted, “That armored vehicle is going the wrong way! Why is it heading toward those monsters?”

“Hey! You in the armored vehicle! We’re over here! Those things are monsters! Why are you going to them?”

“Come save us! What the hell are you doing?”

“Fuck! Is that driver insane?”

“Drive over here, you idiot! Do you have a brain? We’re over here!”

“You moron! If you don’t rescue us, we’ll report you!”

Xiao Yi, who was plowing through the zombie horde in the armored vehicle, cast a cold glance at the unfinished building.

“What the fuck are those idiots shouting about? Goddamn, they’re annoying.”

He crushed out his cigarette and cursed.

Then he abruptly turned the Slaughterer toward the unfinished building.

“Husband! Are you going to save them? They’re all bad people! I know they’re human like you, but...”

Lan Siruo bit her lip with one small fang, disappointment covering her face.

Xiao Yi ignored her and pressed the accelerator harder, charging straight toward the building.

On the abandoned factory’s roof, the four mutant women fell silent.

Their excitement vanished when they saw the armored vehicle turn toward the other survivors. Despair replaced it.

“It really did come to rescue them,” Miaomiao said dejectedly. “They’re human, after all. We’re monsters.”

“I hope they come save us after rescuing those people...” Nana sighed.

“If they truly rescue that group, they won’t treat us kindly,” Qianqian said firmly. “Even if they take us away, we’ll only become their playthings or test subjects. We still have to rely on ourselves. The armored vehicle has drawn away so many zombies that we can use this chance to break out!”

Even as Qianqian spoke, she knew she was only deceiving herself.

How could the four of them possibly have enough strength left to fight their way out?

“Big Sister Qianqian, I don’t want to resist anymore,” Miaomiao said, lowering her head. “If the people in that vehicle want to use me as a plaything, I’ll accept it. As long as I can stay alive, maybe it doesn’t matter.”

“She’s right. This is the apocalypse. Staying alive is already enough. What use is preserving our purity?” Yuanyuan agreed.

“How can you think like that?” Qianqian snapped furiously. “Others may treat us as worthless, but we can’t treat ourselves that way! If you want to surrender, stay here and wait. I would rather die than become a toy for disgusting bastards!”

While the four women argued, the Slaughterer Armored Vehicle reached the entrance of the unfinished building.

The survivors above erupted into thunderous cheers.

They danced, waved their arms, and embraced one another as though the apocalypse had already ended.

A wonderful future was waiting for them.

“Are we finally being rescued?”

“We’re saved!”

“Goddamn military! Why did they wait until now to rescue us?”

“If they’d come sooner, my parents and wife wouldn’t have died!”

“Exactly! What the hell has the military been doing? If they’d come sooner, so many of our families would still be alive. Damn them!”

“I heard the zombie virus escaped from a bioweapons program they were developing!”

“When we reach the settlement, we need to report their negligence to the people in charge! Waiting until now to rescue us is unforgivable!”

Their cheers instantly turned into unanimous complaints and curses.

But both the cheering and the abuse stopped a second later.

The armored vehicle did not stop at the entrance.

It smashed straight through it.

The vehicle had destroyed their final barricade—the last defensive line keeping the zombies out.

“What the hell is he doing?!”

“Bastard! Are you insane? You fucking animal! What have you done?”

“You piece of shit! Are you trying to kill us?”

The survivors screamed curses at the armored vehicle.

Many hurled stones or fired guns at it.

Against the steel beast that was the Slaughterer Armored Vehicle, those attacks were less than scratches.

After smashing through the gate, Xiao Yi reversed at high speed, turned around, and drove away.

Masses of zombies began pouring into the unfinished building.

“Ah! He’s insane! That driver is insane!”

“It’s over! The zombies are inside! We’re all going to die!”

“Run! Run!”

The survivors scattered in terror.

Faced with the zombies flooding up the stairs, they were completely helpless.

“Aaaah!”

Shrill, miserable screams rang from the unfinished building.

The entire structure was swallowed by the zombie horde.

The four mutant women on the abandoned factory roof stared in shock.

They had never imagined that the armored vehicle had not gone there to rescue anyone.

The driver had deliberately smashed through the building’s gate and condemned everyone inside to death.

Ruthless.

Absolutely ruthless.

In the past, the four women would have called the driver an insane, sadistic monster.

Now they felt nothing but satisfaction.

Lan Siruo felt the same way inside the armored vehicle.

At first, she stared blankly. Then understanding dawned, and a delighted smile spread across her face.

“Meow!”

Lan Siruo kissed Xiao Yi hard.

“Thank you for avenging us, Husband!”

“In the apocalypse, you have to be ruthless toward people like that. Softhearted mercy will only get you killed. I hope you understand that from now on and never do anything so stupid again.”

Even while killing people, Xiao Yi did not forget to educate Lan Siruo.

What worried him most was that, after these mutants joined him, their self-righteous compassion might flare up again.

If they rushed blindly into another act of mercy, they might drag him to his death along with them.

Kindness and mercy were diseases.

And diseases needed to be cured.

Lan Siruo nodded without fully understanding. Her ears twitched as though she were pondering some profound truth.

Keke ground her small fangs together and stared hungrily toward the building.

“Master, what a waste to feed all those people to the zombies. I’m a little hungry...”

“Then go take your share, Keke. Those are only ordinary zombies, so they won’t pose much danger to you. Still, be careful.”

Xiao Yi opened the roof hatch and turned to Lan Siruo.

“Tell your friends we’re here!”
