Apocalypse: Grinding EXP through Hunting
Chapter 337 - 258: The Top Courtesan: My Lover is Tang Wen
Chapter 337: Chapter 258: The Top Courtesan: My Lover is Tang Wen
The level below that was a cellar, filled with a large amount of supplies and unguarded.
He recalled the building’s layout and the location of the stairs. He figured the old woman on the first floor must be the Watcher.
He extended his Spiritual Power across the first basement level.
But beneath it, there was nothing but dirt.
No hidden dungeon.
Having checked the ground level, Tang Wen looked up from the courtyard toward the third and highest floor. At some point, a candle had been lit.
The only place left to check was the third floor.
Tang Wen silently blew the Bone Flute, and both Ah Qi and Ah Jiu rushed over.
Seeing the two White Tigers in the clouds gave him a surge of confidence. He pushed off hard, soaring into the air and landing on the third-floor roof.
He moved along the roof to a window and, under the effects of his Stealth Technique, gently pushed it open.
He slipped inside like a dark shadow.
According to Shi Lei, the Extraordinary Hummingbird had never made a mistake when tracking a scent.
So, since the bird had led him to the Spring Breeze Once Pavilion and he’d already checked everywhere else, the third floor, where a light had suddenly appeared, was naturally the most suspicious place.
The third floor was divided into an inner and an outer room. A Female Extraordinary slept on a large, canopy-draped bed in the outer room.
’Could this Female Extraordinary be here to guard Bai Xue or Bai You Ruo?’
The two Bai Family women were only Martial Artists. Assigning an Extraordinary to guard them would be a surefire precaution.
His Power of Concealment enveloped the door as he gently pushed it open a crack.
But a folding screen stood directly behind the door, painted with a scene of a scholar and a lady borrowing an umbrella during a lakeside outing.
He expanded the range of his Power of Concealment, blanketing most of the room around him.
He stepped through the doorway, completely unafraid of the unknown that lay beyond the screen.
After all, he had both Instant Step and the Golden Jade Demon Technique.
A glance out the window revealed two Peak Fifth-Grade White Tigers ready to charge in at a moment’s notice. What was there to fear?
He strode around the screen, saw the inner room clearly, and was instantly stunned.
On the enormous, phoenix-carved bed lay a single person.
Her black silk hair cascaded like a waterfall, hiding half of a face as bewitching and deadly as a viper. Though she lay flat on her back, her black bodice was stretched taut over her peaks. The mountainous curves sloped down to a snowy, flat expanse below.
Beneath her black shorts was a pair of long legs like pillars of jade.
At the end of those long legs were a pair of beautiful, white-jade feet, adorned with tiny plum blossoms.
Tang Wen’s breath hitched.
This vixen was Feng San Niang.
’This is her residence?’
No wonder they all said she was Ganshan City’s number one Courtesan. Seeing her so openly today, she truly lived up to her reputation.
For a moment, he even forgot he was there to investigate the whereabouts of the two Bai Family women.
Hmm?
’Something’s not right!’
Tang Wen looked at the red candle burning in the room.
The red candle was just an ordinary candle.
It had just been lit; the conical tip hadn’t even burned away yet.
It had clearly been lit just moments ago.
Tang Wen’s Spiritual Power scanned the room, carefully avoiding the beauty on the bed, but found nothing.
He frowned, thinking. ’When I first got here, the third floor was completely dark.’
’The candle was lit after I arrived.’
’What does that mean?’
’Either another master in this building discovered me, or this woman on the bed is playing games. But either way, she knows someone has infiltrated.’
’Where did I mess up?’
Tang Wen wasn’t too anxious about the lack of news regarding the two Bai Family women.
Sometimes no news is the best news.
’But how did my infiltration fail?’
His expression grim, Tang Wen sat down on the stool in front of the woman’s vanity and summoned the nearby Mutated Hummingbird.
CHIRP CHIRP. He pushed open the window, and the hummingbird flew into the room, calling out.
It didn’t understand why Tang Wen had summoned it.
His Power of Concealment enveloped the entire boudoir.
Not a single one of the hummingbird’s chirps could be heard outside.
But Feng San Niang could no longer pretend to be asleep.
A soft sigh drifted from the bed. "So, a senior from the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall has graced me with their presence. I wonder... coming here in the dead of night without revealing yourself, are you after my fortune or my body?"
Tang Wen did not reveal himself.
The hummingbird merely hopped about on the table.
But Feng San Niang’s soul-stealing gaze landed precisely where he was.
He disguised his voice, making it raspy. "A friend of mine came to your territory a few days ago and vanished without a trace. I can’t reach them. I’m here today to find them."
A flicker of surprise crossed Feng San Niang’s seductive, fox-like eyes. ’That voice... it sounds like Tang Wen?’
"You scared me to death, Senior." Feng San Niang sat up, her chest swaying gently. She drew her long, slender legs up and rested her cheek in her palm, every movement utterly bewitching.
"So many people come and go in Ganshan City, and countless patrons seek pleasure at the Spring Breeze Pavilion. I wonder, which day did your friend arrive, Senior?"
Tang Wen maintained his disguised voice. "Four days ago."
’It really is Tang Wen.’
’His Invisibility Technique is actually that profound?’
Feng San Niang had been groomed to be a Courtesan since childhood. She was a master of the four arts—zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting—but her true specialty was music.
Whether it was the xiao or the flute, she was a quick study, grasping new concepts with ease.
Later, when her talent for Martial Arts was discovered, she even specialized in Sound Technique.
Tang Wen’s vocal disguise might have fooled an ordinary Sixth-Grade practitioner, but against her, it was child’s play.
Feng San Niang suppressed her many suspicions and cooed, "Only four days? A friend of yours, Senior, must have a respectable Martial Arts Cultivation. It wouldn’t be surprising for them to find a companion at the Spring Breeze Pavilion and indulge for a few extra days. What’s the harm? Why don’t I discreetly summon the Steward? We can simply ask who has been in their room for four days straight."
’This woman is trying to slip away.’
’If I let her leave to get someone, there’s no telling if she’ll bring back the Spring Breeze Pavilion’s Steward or the Commerce Association’s many Fifth-Grade Powerhouses.’
Feng San Niang kept a sweet smile on her face, the very picture of a harmless, delicate beauty.
But behind her back, the hand clutching a hairpin betrayed her tension.
’This woman is testing me, trying to find out my real purpose.’
After a moment’s thought, Tang Wen’s voice grew heavy. "I’ll trust you this once. But if you try to pull anything, know that neither the Commerce Association nor the entire world is big enough to protect you, Lady Feng. If you’re thinking of taking that risk, you’d best think again."
"If you’re worried I’ll run off, Senior, why not reveal yourself and we can go together?" Feng San Niang spread her hands, the exaggerated motion causing her chest to jiggle.
Tang Wen found himself captivated by the view, stunned for half a second.
She added, "Besides, talking to thin air is truly frightening for a lady like me."
From the looks of her beaming smile, she didn’t seem the least bit afraid.
Tang Wen refused. "I’ll just accompany you while in Invisibility. There are some things it’s better for you not to know."
"As you wish, then."
Feng San Niang didn’t press the matter. She raised her snow-white arms, let down the gossamer layers of the bed canopy, and began to change.
Her lovely silhouette, framed by the candlelight, moved within the canopy, stretching and lifting her limbs with an ineffable charm.
Tang Wen watched, his mind filled with nothing but the bed.
He quickly changed the subject, asking the question that concerned him most. "Lady Feng, did you know I was here all along?"
"If I’d discovered you earlier, I would’ve run away long ago." The silhouette shook its head, her hair swinging as she gathered it into a braid.
"This is very important to me!"
’My Expert Level Stealth Technique wasn’t easy to master.’
’I plan to rely on this Skill to waltz into places like I own them. I have to get to the bottom of this.’
’Otherwise, I might get ambushed and surrounded next time.’
A wronged voice drifted from behind the canopy. "You’re so domineering, Senior. You barge into my chambers in the dead of night, and the moment we disagree, you want to drag me away. Now you’re demanding my secrets."
Tang Wen’s brow furrowed. "This is very important to me."
"Fine! It’s because I have an Extraordinary Insect Beast. It’s extremely sensitive to danger, so I was able to sense you when you snuck in, Senior."
"An Extraordinary Insect Beast?" Tang Wen’s frown deepened. "As far as I know, it’s incredibly difficult for an Insect Beast to reach the Extraordinary Level. What kind of insect is it? Please bring it out for me to see, Lady Feng."
’I’m playing the role of a tyrant tonight. Time is short, and I don’t want to play guessing games with Feng San Niang.’
Feng San Niang froze mid-motion. Her voice turned plaintive. "You’re so tyrannical, Senior. You should know, I have a lover. He’s very powerful in Ganshan City. Even Sister Huang wouldn’t dare provoke him."
Tang Wen sneered, though he felt a pang of displeasure. It was probably a common male affliction: seeing a peerless beauty and immediately wishing she were single, preferably having never even been in a relationship.
He let out a dry laugh. "Someone even the Huang Family doesn’t dare provoke? I’m dying to hear his illustrious name."
Feng San Niang’s voice hardened, her confidence swelling. "He is the Black Water Gang’s Seventh Young Master and the Honored Guest Elder of the White Tiger Tribe—Tang Wen!"
Tang Wen was speechless. ’...This is ridiculous!’
