Chapter 336: Chapter 258: The Top Courtesan: My Lover is Tang Wen

Tang Wen didn’t think the Huang Family would dare to make a move.

But out of respect for Hu Li, he picked up the Unity Mirror to exchange a few words with the Saintess.

"...Lan’Er, under these circumstances, I don’t think it’s very likely that the Huang Family will make a move."

Hu Lan’s reply was swift. "Don’t call me that. Never mind, Wen’Er. There’s speculation within the tribe that the three great families of Ganshan City most likely can’t leave the city. So, unless they have an absolute advantage, they won’t—and daren’t—make a move against you."

’The three great families can’t leave Ganshan City?’

Tang Wen was shaken.

He showed the message to Hu Li, who simply nodded thoughtfully and said no more about calling for reinforcements.

Since the Huang Family couldn’t even gauge the White Tiger Tribe’s strength, making a move was out of the question.

Besides, in Tang Wen’s opinion, their alliance with the Bai Family seemed rather tenuous.

"Found her!"

A voice called out.

A man from the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall entered. "Taishang, Young Master Tang, we’ve found her. She’s in a brothel."

"What?"

’We’re looking for a woman... could she have been sold to a brothel?’

Tang Wen didn’t have time to dwell on it and was about to ask the man to lead the way.

But then he reconsidered. It wouldn’t be wise to cause a scene.

So, he took Hu Qi and snuck over under the cover of darkness.

The Spring Breeze Once Pavilion, Feng San Niang’s territory.

Hu Qi waited outside. Tang Wen snuck in through a second-floor window. The moment he landed, the overpowering fragrance almost made him sneeze!

The Hummingbird perched on his shoulder was already dazed.

It was so disoriented it could no longer distinguish any scents.

’But since I know the place, I’ll just have to find the right room myself.’

Tang Wen sent the Hummingbird away and turned to close the window.

The Spring Breeze Once Pavilion was an elegant establishment.

Its patrons were all men of status.

In Ganshan City, status meant strength.

Scanning with his Spiritual Power would give him away.

He could only check the rooms one by one.

The first-floor hall was for dining and drinking, with a stage in the middle for singing and dancing.

Although it was late, guests were still downing one cup after another.

Tang Wen glanced around from the stairs. He didn’t see any women matching the description, so he turned and went up to the second floor.

The rooms on the second floor were dark; most of the occupants were asleep.

After all, frequent patrons of brothels often had weak constitutions.

His Stealth Technique enveloped the door before him. With a gentle push, the wooden door swung open without a sound.

The stench of alcohol, the fragrance of rouge, and the cloying scent of photinia flowers assailed him all at once.

Tang Wen held his breath and looked over at the bed.

A scrawny man was buried between several women, sleeping very soundly.

The women were quite attractive, with figures comparable to the average maids in Tang Wen’s own mansion.

The person he was looking for wasn’t there, so Tang Wen closed the door and moved on to the next room.

He checked seven or eight rooms in a row, all of them dark.

The women were half-asleep, while the men snored like thunder.

They looked like they wouldn’t wake up even if you slapped them a few times.

Visiting a brothel was clearly a very draining activity.

He rounded a corner and saw one room that was brightly lit.

Tang Wen crept to the window and, concealed by his Stealth Technique, quietly slid it open a crack.

He peered inside for a moment. ’One-on-one,’ he noted. ’The woman’s a real performer.’

After searching the entire building,

Tang Wen had a general idea of the power levels of the people frequenting the Spring Breeze Once Pavilion.

Most were Martial Masters and Extraordinaries.

He also occasionally saw some at the Sixth Grade or regular Martial Artists.

Sixth Grade practitioners would have no shortage of beautiful women at home; they likely came here just for a change of pace.

As for the Martial Artists, coming here was a real luxury.

CRACK!

THUD!

A few muffled grunts followed.

Tang Wen heard the commotion, but before he could get closer to see, a voice from inside started cursing. "What a crappy bed! I want my money back! Give me a refund!"

Tang Wen paused. ’So that’s how it’s done.’

’After you’ve had your fun, you break the bed on purpose.’

’Then you demand a refund.’

’If the person in the room is distinguished enough, they might even be able to demand compensation.’

’Well, compensation might be pushing it. But they’d probably send over some free wine to apologize next time.’

After all, the brothels in Ganshan City mostly did business with repeat customers.

The Spring Breeze Once Pavilion was more than just one building.

Just like countless inns, behind the main building was a series of densely packed courtyards.

The difference between the main building and the courtyards behind it was like the difference between a standard VIP room and the Emperor’s private suite.

After seeing the first courtyard, Tang Wen had to admit, the city folk really knew how to live it up.

Swings, wooden horses, hanging rings of red silk... it had everything imaginable.

Even the maids serving them were at the Martial Artist level.

They could easily take care of any... heavy lifting for the guests.

Tang Wen didn’t linger. He was through each courtyard in three to five minutes.

An hour or two passed, and his pace quickened;

after all, he was here to find someone, not to watch a live performance.

He searched everywhere, but came up empty-handed.

Tang Wen turned his gaze to a small building in the darkness.

The small building stood in its own courtyard—the perfect place to hold someone captive.

SWISH.

Tang Wen vaulted over the high wall, landing as lightly as a nighthawk on the second story of the small building.

However, he failed to notice several white filaments floating in the air, each three times thinner than a human hair. His boot had just snapped them.

An unsuspecting Tang Wen began to inspect the second floor. A quick sweep revealed only a few maids and several empty rooms.

But the maids were all at the Martial Master Level.

Tang Wen grew warier and crept down to the first floor.

At the turn of the stairs, a small room on the first floor was dimly lit.

Tang Wen carefully approached. The room was cramped and narrow. On a low bed was an old woman, tossing and turning, looking like she could wake up at any moment.

’A Sixth Grade practitioner?’

’Why would someone at the Sixth Grade be living here?’

’Something is off about this building.’

Pushing his Stealth Technique to its limit, Tang Wen swept the first floor, but again found nothing.
