Chapter 262: Chapter 230: Inside the Secret Room, Enemies Meet on a Narrow Path (Part 2)
Reaching out, he caught a passing black bee. He held it in his hand; it was the size of a fist.
He hadn’t used spiritual soothing, so the startled black bee shot out its stinger!
An ordinary honeybee would die after losing its stinger.
But not this black bee. When he loosened his grip, it wobbled away.
Tang Wen looked at the white mark on his arm and was inwardly astonished.
’Incredible!’
’If the black bee’s stinger were ten times sharper and its force ten times greater, it might actually pierce the outermost layer of my skin.’
No wonder even Extraordinaries had to steer clear of them.
If surrounded by a dozen or so black bees, even an Extraordinary would get hurt.
Besides, the stingers were highly venomous.
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ.
The black bees swarmed like a cloud, resembling a squadron of low-altitude bombers.
They patrolled all over the garden.
The Hummingbirds fled far into the distance.
The black bees’ nest was built right on the ground, towering as high as a two-story building.
It looked like a gigantic morning glory blossom resting on the ground.
His Spiritual Power swept over it.
Inside the enormous hive, aside from countless pupae, black bees, and honeycombs, there was also a sizable honey-storage chamber.
In that storage chamber hung Purple Pearls the size of berries.
It seemed that was the black bees’ honey.
His Spiritual Power reached out like a tentacle.
’Huh?’ Tang Wen thought to himself.
’I wonder what this hive is made of.’
’It can actually resist the penetration of Spiritual Power.’
Seeing the swarm was on the verge of erupting, Tang Wen ignored them. Fully activating the thirty-six spiritual characters in his Sea of Consciousness, he unleashed a tidal wave of Spiritual Power that swept away more than half of the "Purple Pearl" honey pellets.
He stuffed them into a piece of gauze, executed a flash of the Shadow Nether Step, and fled the scene.
In the very next second, the garden erupted into chaos.
The black bees flew about madly, crashing into everything.
"What’s happening?"
"Sound the gongs! The black bees are swarming!"
"Fall back, fall back, fall back!"
The Hundred Flower Garden, a vital area for the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall, was a scene of utter chaos.
Following his pre-planned escape route, Tang Wen first arrived in the Horse Gang’s territory.
He used the symbol at the gate to identify the first courtyard.
The courtyard contained several large barrels of fresh water. He deactivated his Power of Concealment, rinsed himself off, changed into clean clothes, and burned what he’d been wearing.
He then moved on under the effect of Concealment, arriving at a courtyard within the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall’s territory—hiding in the last place they’d look.
This time, he lingered for a few extra minutes.
He lit some fruitwood he had prepared in advance and smoked himself thoroughly.
When he was finished, not just him, but even the "flock of Hummingbirds" in the cage smelled strongly of fruitwood.
It wasn’t that he was being overly cautious; he was simply wary of the Hummingbirds’ Tracking ability.
Hummingbirds weren’t Exotic Beasts, but they were as good as any.
More importantly, the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall even had powerful Mutated Hummingbirds, with strength comparable to High-level Exotic Beasts.
Their Tracking ability was supposedly even stronger.
They could distinguish the most subtle of scents.
Finally, Tang Wen arrived in the Black Water Gang’s territory, where he unexpectedly spotted Zhao Zhe’s carriage.
Through the half-drawn curtains, he could see that both Zhao Zhe and Lin Shi were inside.
It looked as though they had just left home and were heading to the Inner City to visit someone.
An idea struck Tang Wen. He turned and headed for Zhao Zhe’s estate.
With Zhao Zhe gone, the Extraordinary assigned to protect him would be gone as well.
He entered the master bedroom, found the entrance to the secret underground chamber, and descended the steps.
The secret chamber was quite spacious.
It also had two other tunnels leading elsewhere.
They were likely escape routes.
Tang Wen looked around before placing the Purple Pearl-like honey directly on the chamber’s table.
The tiny Hummingbirds flapped their wings.
They began ramming against the cage in the direction of the table.
They were lifting the large bamboo cage right off the ground.
Their desire for the Purple Pearl Honey was frantic.
They were like red-eyed gamblers who’d just spotted a pile of chips, or addicts who’d just seen a fresh score.
Covering the honey with a cloth had no effect.
The Hummingbirds remained just as frantic.
Tang Wen had no choice but to use his Stealth Technique to hide the honey’s very existence.
After the scent had been nullified for a while, the Hummingbirds gradually quieted down.
He opened the cage and took out one of the Hummingbirds.
After some calming, the beautiful little creature stood obediently in Tang Wen’s palm, its head tilted up, awaiting its master’s command.
Tang Wen tried concealing both it and a single Purple Pearl Honey together.
The honey appeared in its field of vision.
The Hummingbird’s long beak immediately shot out, piercing the Purple Pearl’s thin membrane.
It began to suck.
In the end, even the honey’s outer membrane was sucked into its belly.
The Hummingbird flapped its wings joyfully as its body temperature began to rise.
Tang Wen understood.
Eating a lot of the Purple Pearl-like honey could enhance a Hummingbird’s power, causing it to evolve.
"This...?"
Tang Wen pondered for a moment, then took several Jade Bottles from his robes. They contained Extraordinary Beast Blood Marrow.
He was carrying some spares.
The Extraordinary Blood Marrow didn’t provide much of a boost to his Attributes.
He could only use it as a means of Rapid Recovery from injuries and to replenish his energy.
He poured out a drop of the Blood Marrow, and the Hummingbird darted over to eat it.
A Hummingbird with a Constitution equivalent to a Low-level Exotic Beast was simply unable to withstand the potent effects of the Extraordinary Blood Marrow.
A fever came on suddenly, its body temperature skyrocketing.
Its temperature rose faster than if he had dropped it straight into a boiling pot.
But not quite as fast as deep-frying it in hot oil.
The rate of increase was about the same as slowly roasting it over a fire.
When it came to cooking birds, Tang Wen considered himself an expert.
In less than half a minute, the Hummingbird could no longer bear the potent effects and its legs began to kick.
A trickle of Spiritual Power enveloped it. Tang Wen continuously used his Beast Taming Skill to communicate with it while simultaneously using his Spiritual Power to channel the potent energy through its body, accelerating its circulation and absorption.
A few minutes passed.
The Hummingbird’s body temperature stabilized.
FLUTTER!
The Hummingbird struggled to its feet and shook its wings.
Tang Wen and the bird were both stunned.
Feathers flew everywhere. Not a single one remained on the beautiful little bird’s body.
The Hummingbird had become a bald bird.
